“The order is undone. Now even the sultan must scramble to remain seated on his golden throne. The snake strikes first and receives his first taste of the oasis, now he will bare his fangs even towards the sun”
The afternoon felt a bit hot today, Jamil walked down Night raven’s halls with his footsteps sauntering to the library to prepare the study guide for the dorm.
He knew Kalim would be hopeless if he left it up to him, so he must once again do the tedious work.
As he entered the library he was heading to his usual spot, the solitary corner where most people won’t think to loiter in.
It was the perfect place to do the work without needing any distractions, said distractions being either noisy freshmen or the underwater conmen from Octavinelle.
Just as he was only two bookshelves away from the carrel desk, in his peripheral vision he caught the color of your hair and he immediately stopped.
Jamil turned and there you were, sat on one of the larger desks with some colored paper strewn on the wood surface. Your fingers delicately fold each one to a peculiar shape with such precision.
‘She/He seems to be enjoying herself/himself there.’ he thought to himself.
The library was particularly quiet today. Only a handful of students were in here minding their own business. His gray eyes scanned the room to see if anyone else from Scarabia was here.
Much to his delight he didn’t find a single one, so he took his opportunity and sat next to you.
“Hard at work, I see”, his velvety tone startled you from your activity.
“Jamil, you must be here to do your homework. I had some free time and I just had this itch to make something. So, I went to Mr. Sam’s and got this origami paper”, you beamed at him.
“Origami? I didn’t know you had such skill, mind showing me some of the shapes you can fold?” Jamil’s tone sounded curious.
Of course, he phrased it in a way you would be eager to show off to him and only him at this moment. Your eyes twinkled with glee and began hastily folding all the shapes you knew.
You started to get in the zone and proceeded to fold several shapes from the paper, from cranes to butterflies, from simple to complex.
He watched you fold every shape with a covetous gaze that went unnoticed by you.
He showered you with compliments for every fold you showed him. And he genuinely means every single one, he just likes the added feeling of having this moment to perhaps brag about to others.
“Oh, I am so sorry, Jamil! You were probably busy but I ended up making you sit here to just watch me ramble about paper…” you pout and tried to offer him the chance to leave so that you couldn’t bother him.
But he shook his head as he held up his already finished study guide.
“No need to worry. While you were busy showing me the origami, I was already jotting down notes. And I’m all done.” he smirked at your bewildered expression.
He had to admit, it did stroke his ego when you look so amazed by his multitasking.
But this meant that he had to leave now and head back to the dorm. If only he could wish this moment lasted another hour or so, but alas.
“I should be heading back, (Name). I must deliver these to be printed and distributed to the dorm for next week’s exam.” He got up from his seat.
“Jamil, wait! Before you go…” your hand tugged his sleeve, causing him to pause.
Before he could ask, you placed a snake origami in his hand. The black paper was folded perfectly so it stood on his palm, he could see the red underbelly when he held it to his eye level.
“Is this for me?” his voice almost wavered.
“Yep! As thanks for sitting with me even when you’re busy. It’s not much but I hope you like it, Jamil!” you smiled sweetly.
Jamil swallowed the lump in his throat and gave you his polite thanks. After he quickly left the library he kept his eye on the origami snake, gazing at it as if it were a precious jewel.
You gave him something you made.
He was the first to receive it, such a circumstance was so ecstatic to him. If the old laws were still upheld, Kalim would have been the one to receive it first and the others would be next.
And there was hardly enough for all of them so they would all have to hope they were the next one to receive something from you.
But here, they were just students. You thought they were just normal students, not incubi parading as humans for the sake of hiding from the public. That law ceased to be upheld in this modern time.
“Jamil? What’s that you have in your hand?”
That voice…
“Kalim…”
The white-haired young man kept his gaze on Jamil’s hand, the one holding the origami instead of the hand carrying the study guide.
“Where did you get that paper snake? Did Ace give that to you?” Kalim asked curiously.
“Oh this? (Name) gave it to me”
Kalim’s smile almost faltered as his ruby eyes shot up to gaze at Jamil’s smile that hardly masked his sinister delight.
“(Name) gave it to you… first?” Kalim swallowed the lump in his throat.
Jamil can't help but notice the way Kalim's pupils flickered between round and slitted.
“Why do you look so tense? The hierarchy is dissolved, it shouldn’t matter who gets (Name)’s gift first since we’re all supposed to be just classmates educating ourselves to be mages, right?”
But it does matter.
It still does to Treasure incubi like themselves.
It matters a whole lot to them who the Heart gives a gift to first!
Yet they can’t do a thing about it, Crowley set up the laws in this school and they are obliged to follow it. But that doesn’t make it any easier. And Jamil has never been more grateful for that rule at this very moment.
“Maybe next time I’ll ask (Name) to come by my room to show me more of her/his creations, hmm?” Jamil walked past Kalim who stood still.
“A sleepover? That’s a great idea, Jamil. I can invite the whole dorm and I’ll make sure (Name) gets a spot BESIDE me”, Kalim shot back, his tone remained cheerful but it held a subtle challenge towards the vice housewarden.
Next time, Kalim will try harder to make sure he’s the first to receive something from you.
just wondering, what kind of horror movies/games scares you the most as a kid but still scares you now, or have you ever experienced real life supernatural horror🤔
unrelated but i live in SEA so every night is either a party or a horror movie waiting to happen and just few weeks ago my housemate said that's there's not one but TWO 'good fellows' in our rental house. one from the kitchen (bc of leftover foods in the trash) and another in the balcony and the reason the one from the kitchen did not come to us in the living room was bc its near another creature in the balcony....
OH A REAL LIFE SUPERNATURAL HORROR YOU SAY?
Well there's this one memory from my childhood that I still felt like a fever dream. I just left my friend's house, and I spot a black dog with one red eye staring at me
the eye looked like it was almost popping out. Think of how a pug's eyes look but only one was like that.
The reason why I knew it happened because I stood still until my nanny came to fetch me and she reacted too, WHICH MEANT IT WASN'T A HALLUCINATION!
I still think of it from time to time.
Did I meet a hellhound?
Is it a bad omen?
That dog never came back after that one encounter.
Are any of your dca oc’s shipped with a twst character? Like Vidya and Jamil?
There's a few ships that sit in my head like Briar x Malleus. They're just so perfect together and I really like the though of Briar finding happiness with Malleus.
There's also Evonie x Vil but I think of a lot of angst with their ship because Vil is famous and we all know what happens when famous people start dating. But there is also some wholesome scenes I imagine with this ship but... I just want to hurt my emotions when it come to this ship
Trey x Perrine because two of them make for a wholesome pair. They are so sweet it rots my teeth.
Then there is Rozeline x Idia... imagine these two getting into literature debate, it would be Ace Attorney chaos.
These ships so far sit in my brain space and I think about them a lot.
“The hand you held the moment you fell into the darkness was familiar. His grip felt like this was someone you knew once upon a dream…
You hear a voice that stirs your heart, he calls for you to come forth and return to him…”
You fell out of the coffin and the room went quiet…
A group of robed figures approached you. All four of them looked at you with shocked faces, the one with elegant horns stirred a feeling of familiarity as his fiery gaze lingered on you.
The dark mirror declares your soul to belong to Diasomnia. The figures proceed to whisk you away into a dark castle that sat atop a mountain, the entire place was nearly covered in bramble and dark clouds.
The entire school talked about your arrival at Night Raven, when Malleus Draconia himself came on time to the ceremony with or without anyone telling him. He walked towards you and offered his hand to you.
The moment your hands touched, a sheer ache struck your head and you couldn’t even muster the strength to stand. And so Malleus carried you in his arms like a princess/prince. Not caring about the stunned gazes of the others who witnessed his tender gesture, he brought you to your room.
A stranger carrying you like this would have been a warning sign. But the longer you gaze into his eyes the more you feel as if you’ve met him before. You feel it deep in your soul that you knew him from somewhere.
But the more you try to dig deeper the more painful the headaches get. All four of the dorm members insisted you do not force yourself to answer your internal struggle yet. They wish for you to enjoy your time in the dorm.
And so your days as a student began within the dark stone walls of Diasomnia. Ironically, despite the gloomy weather around the dorm, the people in it were not entirely as gloomy.
Lilia, the vice housewarden, was a cheeky and playful guy who played pranks on Malleus’ retainers, Silver and Sebek. You couldn’t help but stifle your laughter whenever the serious looks on their faces morphed into startled gasps every time Lilia appeared out of nowhere.
You didn’t notice how fond they looked when their antics amused you.
Those three may have been sworn to Malleus, but you are now included into their group. They all told you that you were their liege’s confidant and thus, you are the only one who has privilege to his company and his time.
They generously invite you to tea every night, Malleus is included and on time for once when it comes to you. Perhaps because you aren't scared to ask him for such a small thing, and Malleus is internally eager to have your company.
But the odd thing you started to notice was that whenever you had those piercing headaches, one of them was always nearby to help you up and escort you to rest somewhere.
You chalked it up to them being retainers, they trained all their lives to serve and protect Malleus, why wouldn’t they be able to know of your whereabouts as his confidant as well? But you have no idea that whenever they have used magic to “ease” your headaches, they were slowly getting you to unlock your memories.
They are very careful not to overdo it lest it breaks your mind. You start to dream of memories that feel familiar but you don’t remember having.
A memory where a figure of a young woman/man walking beside a tall, horned figure through the dark woods. The two of them seemed so happy together, the horned-figure would even weave a flower crown onto their head with magic.
Another where you comfort two young men who were sparring but both got injured in the process. They argue between themselves on who won and their bet that the winner gets a reward from you.
And sometimes you dream of a memory where a short figure covered his scars under his armor. He would come to you to ease the pain, not the scars on his body but on his weary soul.
You wake up barely remembering these dreams, but they never exactly remain forgotten by you. Unknowingly you start to act like the figure centered around those dreams in small habits such as your food preferences.
There was even a moment you were able to hear an ancient tongue uttered by other Diasomnia students.
One night, the four of them heard you humming a song during tea time. You hardly noticed the pause on their expressions before they masked it over with a smile. They were making slow progress, which was better than nothing.
You were their precious Heart after all, even if you take on a different form.
The one who emerged first. When the tree in their domain crackled with a surge of magical energy and broke open revealing your humanoid form to them, you brought life to their kind.
Bestowing upon them all a precious gift that they thought was impossible to achieve because of what their kind was.
Their race that was once forced to feed off humans because they could consume nothing else but vitality, were now able to feed from the fruits that grow from the soil because the island was now brimming with magical energy.
They could live normal lives, the very same lives they envied in humans. Their kind formed communities and grew connected to their Hearts.
Malleus could never forget how you, the oldest of the Hearts, confided in him that you heard their pleas. He was close to death and wished that his people would have a place to live without being hunted or driven out.
And you once told him that his wish moved you. And you gave him what he wanted.
Sadly, their happiness did not last long when the war began…
One by one, the domains fell to ruin as the Hearts were shattered. Just before the humans could invade this domain, you used up all your magic to save your fellow Hearts.
You paid a hefty price to meddle with the strings of fate to ensure the incubi would eventually regain their island and have their Hearts back, even if it came in a form that wasn’t quite the same.
After that, you broke into pieces before his eyes.
In his grief, he cursed the island to vanish and remain hidden. A last attempt to preserve the home they had even if they had to leave it behind.
Now every night he visits you in your dreams, gently easing you to remember the wonderful times you had once upon a dream.

“The hand you held the moment you fell into the darkness was lethargic. His grip was lax, yet it never let you go…
You hear a quiet voice call out to you, it whispers for you to come forth and return to him…”
A pair of robed figures approached you. The two of them looked at you with shocked faces, the one with blue hair that resembled fire, had this bridled panic as his gaze lingered on you.
The dark mirror declares your soul to belong to Ignihyde. The figures proceed to whisk you away into a dorm filled with magitech machinery yet the place was built like an underworld.
The dorm was full of introverts, or so the others say. The first few weeks you barely saw anyone roaming the halls and if you did see someone, they stammered something incoherent before scrambling away with a flustered face.
It was a bit awkward to be the only one who wanted just a bit of company in this gloomy place. That company fortunately came in the form of some humanoid named Ortho.
It was startling to find a humanoid robot in front of you! The closest anyone in your world had made humanoids didn’t have half the personality Ortho did, and even if they did, it required handling to keep it functioning.
You felt rude to gawk at the boy and you apologized, Ortho brushed it off and offered you an official welcome to the dorm. He explained that the others had no ill impression against you, they were quite shy to have someone like you in their dorm but are just too timid to know what to do.
He took your hand and led you to a room that was the furthest from everyone else’s. Ortho had entered the room to introduce his big brother, Idia, to you.
The young man looked so bored when he turned around, but the moment his gaze landed on you he started stammering and his blue hair turned pink.
Then he proceeded to dive into his bed and hide in the blanket.
Any other person could have left and thought of him as someone they couldn’t properly converse with. But something inside you felt the need to go to his side and reassure him that you don’t see anything wrong with him.
Idia slowly peeked out the blanket.
Ortho watched with a knowing gaze as you carefully sat next to the giant lump hiding in the sheets. It took a while for him and the others in the dorm to open up to you, yet you were so patient and understanding of their personal space.
Eventually, you were the one they invited to play games or watch movies with. Ortho even started noticing Idia becoming openly jealous when you were swamped making time for others that he had to plan ahead to even get his time with you.
It’s the first time in centuries he’s seen his big brother be that expressive.
And when it came to Ortho, you can't explain how you felt this strange connection to the boy. As if he was someone you wanted to protect, you just told yourself it was because he was the only child in this school and you wanted to be the big sister/brother role model to him.
You were back… Ortho may have lost his mortal body and is now residing in this machine built by his big brother but his calculations never lie.
After all, Idia forged this body using a piece of you. The piece that was left when you perished that day…
When the humans invaded the island through countless sieges, you were the one who had to alert all seven domains about the day the island would fall. You knew it was fate, everyone in the domain remembered how you stopped being chatty and became as recluse as they were.
You agonized at the vision of your fellow Hearts being broken, including you. But what scares you the most is knowing you are unable to predict if the incubi clans would be okay when the Hearts are gone.
No matter how many times you tried to use your powers, the vision cannot see beyond your own death. Even after all this, you went down fighting the humans that managed to find their way to this domain.
But unlike the Hearts who were strong, you were the weakest in terms of ability. You were just the one who looked into the future. Their numbers overwhelmed you quickly but before you were completely shattered, Ortho was injured fatally by a human and you sacrificed yourself to save him.
As your body shattered into pieces and discarded into the waters below, the shadows started to wail over your death.
The humans who dared trespass were sentenced to die in the maze of towers and corridors of the domain. They all starved or went mad before they perished in the gloomy stone walls.
And yet, your sacrifice saved Ortho albeit not in the way you intended. His very being merged into a shard of Schorl stone which allowed him to have a connection to you.
Idia nearly drowned in the ghoulish waters trying to retrieve that shard. He didn’t care if he almost lost so much strength swimming through that draining pool, he needed both of you back. With the shard in hand, he forged Ortho’s new body and used it to bring him to life.
When Ortho tells him that you came back to them, he 100% believed him. Ortho has been carrying a piece of you and now you are brought back.
To the Shadow incubi, you were not the weakest Heart like the humans assumed you were, you were the only one willing to dive into danger no matter the cost.
And they will make sure nothing will break you ever again.
The Scarabia part of the heart series feels different from the other parts, but it still manages to be sweet. You can really tell that there's a internal competion happening in the dorm...I can only imagine all the barely hidden jealousy and envy that would go on once their Heart starts making things again.
Especially if they make something for Kalim first, maybe out of a 'unknown' pull to make something for the cheery boy. Of course they probably would also make something for Jamil too, but the sting of Kalim reciving a gift first wouldn't do so good for the jealousy that's already there in the viper boy.
They are still demons in this AU, just parading to be human students for their own safety.
There are still rivalries but the other dorms often keep it on the downlow. Scarabia just so happens to be more open about theirs.
But this could also be me wanting an excuse to have Kalim and Jamil just fight over someone and neither is letting the other win
“The hand you held the moment you fell into the darkness was decorated in gold. His grip was inviting and treats you like a long lost friend…
You hear a cheerful voice that welcomes you to come forth and return to him…”
You fell out of the coffin and the room went quiet…
A pair of robed figures approached you. The two of them looked at you with shocked faces, the one with white hair held by a red turban had an excited grin as his gaze lingered on you.
The dark mirror declares your soul to belong to Scarabia. The figures proceed to whisk you away into a grand palace in the middle of a dessert filled with vast amounts of treasures and finery.
The energetic ball of sunshine that literally tackled you with such enthusiasm was named Kalim. The others in the dorm had explained to you that he was quite friendly to everyone, but you have the gut feeling this level of friendliness was too suspicious.
A dark-haired young man, Jamil, pulled him away and apologized to you on his behalf. He formally introduced himself and Kalim as the vice housewarden and housewarden respectively.
They were quite the odd duo, you thought to yourself. As you go about your days in Scarabia Kalim or Jamil would often be in some areas you frequent. You thought nothing of it since it was a public space and everyone uses it.
You don’t realize how they push small interactions that you shouldn’t be familiar with, yet you feel as if it was normal.
Like when Kalim invited you to his banquets, you instinctively take a seat next to him on the sofa. No one in Scarabia called you out for it so you thought this was your designated seat.
Unknown to you, they always believed your seat was always next to the sultan.
And another time when Jamil “asked” for your help to clean out the treasury, you unknowingly stumbled upon some artifacts that feel so familiar to you even when it was the first time you’ve seen it. Your fingers just knew how to use them and make it work, surprising yourself as to how it was even possible.
Jamil doesn’t stop you from touching such priceless artifacts. They were yours to begin with, you just needed a little nudge to remember.
With all their little run-ins with you, eventually they became close to you as your friends. Part of you can’t help but feel so comfortable in their presence, it almost felt too good to be natural.
Kalim has to restrain himself from overwhelming you with past memories every time he sees you pause when you eat something familiar or ponder about deja vu. Jamil watched it happen beside him with little to no surprise.
You were their Heart and they show no doubt towards this new vessel you present yourself in. Even if your form was different, small things about you never changed and that was good enough for them… for now.
Their greed for precious treasure still lignered in their veins even after centuries had passed. And you were their greatest treasure of all.
One night as you were soundly asleep in your dorm room, Kalim and Jamil stood outside your door. Their friendly gazes towards you morphed into a glower when their orbs met each others’.
For a long time Jamil had never forgotten your sheer brilliance the moment you emerged from their domain. How breathtaking you were to him when your form sat there among their pile of gold.
But as rules dictate in their domain, you belonged to the sultan as a partner. Kalim, although kind as he was to let others interact with you, it was not enough for Jamil. He didn’t want to just talk to you, he WANTED you by his side.
He can’t have you if Kalim was sultan among their kin.
When the humans broke you the first time, everyone despaired…
They lost all the will to fight as those humans ransacked their domain. Those greedy mortals took the opportunity to steal as much gold as they could when the forlorn Treasure incubi had no motive to fend them off. But they had no idea that the gold was cursed.
They didn’t care to know what became of those thieves, their bloodlines would probably be cursed till the end of time. But eternity feels empty without their most precious treasure… you.
But now that you have returned to them, Jamil will try his hardest to seize the throne from Kalim. And when he does, he can finally be the one you praise and devote your time to.
Kalim and Jamil parted ways without a word. The war may have been over, but the competition never died down.
It won’t be just Jamil aiming for the throne, now everyone wants a chance to have their ultimate wish fulfilled: Becoming yours.
