May the 4th Plans
Tonight, I’ll be watching the Sequel Trilogy in its entirety.
1. Mainly because I want to see how it works as a story as a whole. Do I believe it’ll be particularly good experience? No, but I hated TLJ the first time I watched it, so I’ll be seeing that again and that’ll be... yeah. Honestly, the movies felt so disjointed to me, I just need to see if there are any over arcing themes or character growth that took place. Not to mention, TROS was legitimately my favorite out of the three, only because it was enjoyable to watch in a fresh way, and it didn’t feel like a rehashing of a previous SW movie the way the TFA and TLJ did. Maybe when I see TFA and TLJ for the second time they’ll feel a little more original.
2. As I mentioned above, I’ve only seen TLJ once. I hated so much of that movie that I haven’t been able to stomach the idea of seeing it again because the story was so stupid. Seriously, the slow agonizing chase through space was redundant, and that’s literally what I remember best so I’ll be trying to understand that movie better in a IS THERE ANY PLOT TO THIS THING??? kind of way.
3. Character growth. This mostly speaks for itself, but I want to see how the characters grew and changed overtime.
4. Ultimately, to refresh myself on the dynamics between Kylo/Ben and Rey. TROS making them canon satisfied my personal rule of only shipping canon pairings, and while I’ve enjoyed writing fanfiction exploring Reylo, it’s past time for me to study their dynamic through the films. To better understand how they related to each other, how their own personal journeys effected them, and how they operate together and individually. To me, TROS wasn’t the end of their journey... I don’t know, something about it didn’t feel like THE END, but maybe, after I watch the Sequel Trilogy as one story, I’ll finally understand why Reylos were so devastated by it or I’ll better understand my own interpretation of the ending.
(Disclaimer: I know Reylos are mostly hurt by Ben’s death, and I’ll gladly admit that that scene made me cry when I saw it - and I was only a casual shipper at the time. Mostly, I’m trying to understand the hate for TROS, considering that it’s my favorite of the three, I need to understand why I was initially displeased with TFA and TLJ and how and/or why TROS stood out as the better film to me.)
Expect short essays detailing my impressions of the three films later on!
