rocky horror is one of those movies where all the characters in my eyes is under every queer label. yes brad and janet are bisexuals and also are both gay men and also lesbians. magenta can be transgender both ways. eddie is a butch lesbian. they're all lesbians. they're all gay. they're all bisexual they're all transgender they're all gender-fluid. it depends on the day. they aren't cishet that's for sure 🫡

people are posting their fan casts for rocky horror characters and they just don't understand that half of the eroticism and therefore their characters is that they defy gender roles through their physical appearance. ive seen a couple of people fancast actors purely because they're a curvy man but that just misses the point. a big part of frankies appearance is that they have big shoulders with muscle and a rectangular torso, the same goes with brad. they are not curvy, that is a big part of their appearance and the strangeness of their gender that the movie plays into. frank n furter is a parody of how trans women and queerness was seen as murderous sexual aliens who were just men in makeup. the movie both makes fun of that idea and also indulges in the idea through their clothing. the type of lingerie frankie wears is typically worn by curvy women, so putting someone who is not that into it plays into the obscurity and uncomfortable gender that is frankies character.

Folks, we need to have a quick talk about Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Yes, it is a little outdated, but I think that it gets a lot more shit than it deserves. It pokes fun at stereotypes, and I think that a lot of people miss the satire and just take it at face value. Yes, the main character is the embodiment of negative stereotypes about trans women, but that is on purpose. Those steriotypes are deliberately played over the top to make fun of bigots. The whole thesis of the movie is saying, "Oh do you think that all trans women are oversexualized alien mad scientist cannibals who are going to prey on your white 1950s Milton-Keynes family? Here's how rediculous that idea actually is." But a lot of people miss that last sentence there. The movie knows exactly how rediculous that idea is, and it is trying to tell that to the audience by taking it to the furthest extremes. So people who are criticizing the depictions of negative steriotypes have missed the whole point.
