Quietly judging Malik.
And yet your eyes speak volumes.
“Did you make this yourself, Sophie?” It appeared that she had… put flowers in water… in a jar…
“Yes.” She smiled so proudly, and in an completely unaware way. “I hope it’s alright.”
“It’s excellent Sophie.” And he gave her a small pat on the head. “You know, you ought to make one of these for everyone. But remember, cologne isn’t like perfume- you can use more than just flowers.” Please let your imagination run wild...

“Here. It’s a bottle of Sopheria Essence. Now you’ll always have a part of me with you.”

Tiger’s Essence A cologne that makes you a sexy beast of a man. Must be a heck of a product to promise that!

“You ought to lighten up a bit, Hubert. You’re only young for so long.” And yet these sort of things stayed amusing forever. Come on, Hubert, you had to be at least a little amused,,,
“ If you’re any indication, Captain, I’ll have plenty of time to ‘lighten up’ later on, since it seems age and maturity clearly have no correlation. “ Did he really just pull the age card? You bet he did. They had serious business matters to deal with; clearly someone was slacking in how much investment they put into it.
Ouch, below the belt, Hubert. Malik was plenty mature. As such, he was wizened enough to know when maturity was dispensable. And this was such a time. There would be plenty of opportunity to be serious and adult-like later. But right now, he needed to loosen up.
So the Captain slung an arm over Hubert’s shoulder, gesturing to the scene. “You find no part of this funny. Not even that.” He pointed. Come on. It was perfect.

The hat was unmistakable. Malik, honestly, was resisting the urge to sneak up on him, to address him as Tiger Festival with a little smirk and a joking elbow. Not because he thought the joke would be misunderstood, but because… well, that expression did not suit a child. No, now didn’t seem the opportune time for jokes with the little prince.
“Looking for anything in particular?” The Captain asked, taking a knee beside Richard. “Or are you just enamored with the pillar? You’ve got poor camouflage, if you’re sneaking…” And yet, he had managed to get this far seemingly unaccompanied. He made a mental note to heavily scold the men assigned to watch the Prince today; clearly they were slacking…
His chest was still pounding. The voices in the courtyard behind him had long faded off but the young prince was still frozen, the cold marble pillar pressed against his back. Why? Why was he so afraid? It was Asbel… it was the only friend he had left and yet the second he had turned Richard had ducked, had become paralyzed. He- he couldn’t- he couldn’t face him, not after everything that happened- after his foolish idea that had gotten Sophie-
The voice startles him, sends a worried gaze up at the older knight. It was the same Captain that had seen him when he’d been out in the city with everyone. His heart starts to beat faster, a small fist curled over his chest. If he found out why Richard was here he might go get Asbel and then-
“No, nothing in particular,” Richard tries to answer calmly, still not practiced enough to fully hide his uncertainty. “I thought I would come see what kind of training the knights undergo. They work very hard, don’t they?”
“I-” he falters when his location is pointed out. “I just didn’t want them to know I was watching. I didn’t want to interrupt their training. Please forgive me if I am intruding, it is not my intention to cause any trouble.”
It was true- the child was not well versed enough in lying to completely mask his trepidation. Malik, though, was not the sort to point it out. The Prince was uncertain, defensive already despite his generally convivial approach. He wanted something. And it had not been mere observation. Though what it could have been.... well, Malik had a guess. The Lhant boy had been in the courtyard; if he remembered rightly, and he tended to, Richard had been running around with him...
So why did he not approach? He quirked a brow with mild curiosity. If Richard did not venture out himself, it wasn’t Malik’s place to push them together ( without prompting, that was; if Richard said jump, he would surely ).
“Yes, very hard. You actually have similar training, Your Highness. They tend to have a bit wider blades than your own, so the balance and motions are a little different...” He smiled. “Are you thinking about becoming a Knight? I don’t believe your father would approve.”
He shook his head. “No trouble, no trouble. You know, you’re welcome to join us, if you would like. I don’t imagine any of them would take offense.” If he wanted to see Asbel, though, there were easier ways... And Malik pointed to a stairwell behind him. “There is also an observation deck. Typically just for instructors but would you like to check the view? Scout out for your next covert operation?”

“First time in Barona?” It was hard to mistake that look of confusion, one that he’d had himself when Malik first arrived. “Where are you headed? Perhaps I could assist.”
Isaac looked from the street sign to the small note he had with confusion. It was a tiny map he had for the city and it was proving useless right now. A voice offering help had him drew his attention. “Yes, I’m looking for the Royal Sanctuary.”
The Royal Sanctuary? Well, not the locale he expected, but it was certainly a remediable problem. Malik approached, peering down at the map the other was looking at. “... font’s pretty small. No wonder you’re having issues.” Or maybe Malik’s eyes were going. Either way wouldn’t surprise him.
He pointed up the stairs to their side, saying, “Here, I can lead you. It’s not too far, but Barona is a bit convoluted. Maps are a little unreliable here.” Word of mouth trumped, for sure. He skirt around the other, asking, “What takes you to the Royal Sanctuary?”
@atruemanoffendel
The vastness of Barona reminded Yuri of the capital, but the atmosphere felt more similar to Torim, with its pleasant sea breeze and busy, lively people. Granted, Torim did not have a king nor a magistrate to head it, but it did have Kaufman, and she was just as capable as any monarch or high-ranking empire official (or all of them combined, honestly.)
It wasn’t so much that he was lost, but he needed a place to stay for the night. And spending the night in Richard’s place like the last time he visited didn’t sound too appealing an idea. Richard was a nice host and all, but the castle was a bit too fancy for Yuri’s liking.
The inn it is, he thought to himself, walking along the road as Repede padded next to him, stoic as ever.
And that was the last of it. Malik dropped one last crate atop the others, then dusted off his hands. He didn’t mind lending aid when asked, and given the construction that needed to be done at the inn, there had been plenty to do. But everything was stored and safe now, and he gave a small wave to the innkeep as he sauntered down the steps. The renovations would be done in a few days- new rooms, an expanded kitchen... yes, it would soon be an inn even more fit for it’s locale. Thankfully Barona’s splendor seemed second to none...
Was it the dog that caught his eye, or the somber looking man at his side? Or perhaps it was simply their approach to the building that made Malik feel the desire to intervene. After all, Hugh had enough to deal with without turning away potential future customers.
“Looking for the inn?” he asked. He leaned on his knee, reaching a balled fist out to the dog to sniff. Rotten luck if that’s where these guys were headed...
"I've heard you're a bit of a connoisseur of drinks, and I'm craving something a little sweet. Have a recommendation?" She sits beside him at the bar, careful not to jostle him. "I'm Casey, by the way, friend of Asbel- he speaks pretty highly of you."
Well he hadn’t been expecting company. He’d just figured a nice glass of whiskey would wind down the night, and then he would retire to his quarters. And yet up strode this woman- Casey, she had said. A friend of Asbel’s…? She seemed a bit older, though….
But he could hardly be rude. Malik lifted his glass in welcome, saying, “Malik, though I imagine with what you just said that you already knew that.” He turned to the barkeep, waving a hand before saying, “Do you still have that strawberry cider? I need one for Miss Casey, if you would.” Something sweet… that’d be just fine.
❛ Now, what’s this called? ❜
“A screwdriver.” Malik said, pushing the cocktail closer to the monarch. “Simple, tart. I hope you like orange.” He could hardly imagine Richard drinking though…
❛ Now, what’s this called? ❜
“It’s called a bladerang. You can call it a boomerang if it really strikes you, though.” There were enough people that posed the argument that Malik just didn’t care any more. “Takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s an excellent weapon with some finesse.”
❛ What’s the matter with you? You look nervous. ❜ (;
Nervous? Or rightly suspicious? Something wasn’t adding up…
“Doesn’t this seem too easy? I thought the warrant claimed an Elite in the area, and yet we haven’t seen anything yet…” Not even a polwigle…”We ought to proceed with caution.” No fetch-quest was worth their lives, whether Malik or Ludger needed the gald or not.
❛ Don’t worry, sarcasm is my form of endearment. ❜ (ambimerc)
“Then it seems I have nothing to worry about.” he said ruefully. “So sincerity is cause for alarm, then?”
❛ Yes, I see you snickering over there. Can we at least pretend that we’re mature adults? ❜
