Ben when his Sparrow siblings who he’s known for his entire life get horrifically murdered: Oh no. Anyway -
Ben when his deranged Umbrella siblings who he’s berated and known for like two days don’t invite him to the bachelor party:
I love that S3-Five was like "My body is going through puberty" but instead of being horny he just wanted to buy a car and see the world's biggest ball of twine. I thereby once more affirm my "Five is ace" hc. Thank you for your time.
#let him rest
Nothing will ever EVER fuck me up as bad as Five’s face seeing his family for the first time again in nearly 50 years:
Then Five’s face as he watches them walk away from him when he’s only been around them for about 3 weeks:
I will never be okay again
you're ALL WRONG the umbrella academy can never be riverdale because they have 30 year olds playing 16 year olds and tua has an 18 year old playing a 58 year old
Why is no one talking about how frustrated, hopeless, sad, and close to just giving up Five was this season...
Especially, when he told himself to not save the world and he was essentially telling his family goodbye because he reached acceptance that there was nothing they or himself could do and that he accepted that they were going to die but was glad they were at least going to be together this time but it still hurt because he wanted to spend a peaceful life with his family after not seeing them for so long...?
He was so close to tears so many times this season...
this part made me laugh so much why is she so perfect
Ousama Ranking is such a gem
Entranced by everything in this scene
Ranking of Kings is super good overall, but I love that episode 3 has the show refuse to go with the easy ‘evil stepmother’ trope with the queen and instead made her someone more complicated, but who was ultimately trying her best even if she lost sight of herself and emotionally hurt the mc sometimes, in the end she does deep down consider him her kid and would jump out a fucking window to save him.
I also like when she HULKED OUT and had to rip her dress collar to summon the power to heal and healing magic was treated as this really physical, scream-y process, like she isn’t animated to look graceful while she’s doing it, you can feel the struggle like she’s doin’ a fuckin vein bulging anime powerup, it’s not graceful, because healing isn’t like that in real life, you’re up to your elbows in blood and shit and maybe sweating and shaking and not looking pretty? The way they were able to get that across in relatively simple animation, and with her slumping over drooling at the end rather than swooning gently, was pretty awesome.
I think it actually really got to me with how ‘healing’ being associated with femininity in fantasy stories leads to people sanitizing what healing actually is. Just the concept of healing magic being something you hulk out to do and start making grotesque expressions feel significant, and that really says a lot about how we present stuff we see as ‘feminine arts’, always sawing away the actual effort part.
Anyway, Ranking of the Kings is definitely the best of the season so far, watch it, the animation is great, the story is vibrant, it’s navigating disability in an interesting way, I would die to protect the protagonist and his weird shadow friend, and it’s embracing yet also fleshing out and/or subverting a lot of fairy tale and fantasy world conceits in a cool way.
So I’ve picked up even more shows since my recent premiere check-in, and I gotta say, Fall is shaping up to be fucking stacked. At this rate, Summer is gonna be the only anime season in 2021 that isn’t firing on all cylinders. We got fucking blessed this year, lads.
Faraway Paladin: Jury’s still out on why this needed to be an isekai instead of a traditional fantasy series, but goddamn if it isn’t already one of the best isekai I’ve seen. Definitely looking forward to more.
Komi-San Can’t Communicate: Somehow, it lived up to the hype. This is gonna be a rom-com for the history books, mark my words.
My Senpai is Annoying: Cute, funny working-adults rom-com. Glad to see Doga Koba back doing what they do best instead of wallowing in weird pedobait.
Ranking of Kings: A young deafmute prince sets out to prove his worth in a gorgeous adaptation by Studio Wit. Do NOT let this one slip under your radar, it’s real Anime of the Season material.
i'm rooting for you, bojji 🙌🏻
i love him already, he's so precious 😭💞
BOJJI YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE GREATEST KING IN HISTORY I'M SURE OF IT
