I think the implication that Mike can see into the void and that's perfectly fine and normal and doesn't mean anything bugs me sm because the show kinda straight up disproves it.

Max tries to use that justification, and it doesn't work because it's not normal. She says it's no big deal that Billy sensed El in the void because Mike did it, too. She's wrong. Billy is possessed.

Which means this is the list of known people to have seen El in the void (visually be shown in the void as well btw)

1) Will

2) Mike

3) Terry

4) Kali

5) Billy

If Will has powers and Mike doesn't, then Mike breaks the pattern of people who are shown within the void as they sense El having/being connected to powers in one way or the other either through natural means/experimentation/possession.

hello this post has awoken the theory gremlin that lives in my brain because wdym creation powers you big brain genius? like maybe creating the upside down? a whole new world? a corridor between dimensions?

I’m all for builder will theories but what if it was mike? what if will originally went to dimension x and mike was the one who created the upside down so will could find his way back home???? it’s frozen the day that will disappeared because mike’s whole world was turned upside down when his best friend went missing.

mike is one of the few remaining party members that hasn’t been in the upside down. the closest he’s come is the tunnels and when he was in there a vine reached out and grabbed him. maybe it recognizes him. maybe if he flips, he’ll recognize it too.

I already reblogged a post on my main blog saying this, but I need to share this cause it makes way too much sense.

The fact that Shawn Levy is allegedly directing episode 7 of season 5. The fact that Levy said that Finn and Noah’s best performances are in volume 2. Finn says that Season 5 is Mike’s most traumatic season and that he had to carry a lot of emotional weight.

In season 4, Will primarily wore the color yellow throughout the entire season. Coincidentally, in the same season, we see Dimension X for the first time, which is yellow. Will not remembering most of his time in the Upside Down, possibly because he was actually in Dimension X. Henry Creel visited Dimension X as a child and lost his memory of the experience, btw.

Unless the Duffers were lying in their interview about volume 1 where they said that Will only has powers because of his connection to the hive mind, then the theory about Will creating the Upside Down is out the window. So who does that leave?

Mike.

Something something the multiple theories about Mike creating the Upside Down, having time powers, and the Upside Down being a manifestation of his repressed emotions and whatnot. The fact that with every passing season, the Upside Down gets bluer and bluer, and is stuck on the day Will went missing. Since the very first season of the show, Mike has not only been consistently associated with the color blue, but also with time. Specifically, being late and wanting more time.

In season 1, he ran the campaign late. In season 2, he was late for the arcade. In season 3, he was late for the movies. In season 4, he was late for school. And while in the beginning of season 5, we see the other characters run late and go out the door, we do not see Mike walk out of his own house. Literally, Mike is wearing a sweater with the Demogorgon’s face in season 5.

The fact that episode 7 is called “The Bridge”, and is directed (co-directed?) by Shawn Levy. Something something Byler possibly being the bridge between worlds

As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, “She told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.”

this was actually really good in some instances though because i started having insomnia and intrusive thoughts very young and when little me was like “mom i don’t like the thoughts in my head but i can’t make them go away and i can’t sleep” she replied with “oh honey. active thought suppression never works. in fact, wegner et al. (1987) tested this when they told a bunch of people to talk about whatever they wanted, and they told half of them to try not to think about a white bear. people thought more about the white bear when they were trying not to think about it! but when they told the people to think about a red car whenever thoughts of the white bear came to mind, the people had a much easier time not thinking about the white bear. so you see, you can’t force the thoughts out of your mind. you just have to let them pass through, and pick something else that you want to focus on”

Hey, so… I’ve read a lot of advice from different sources on the “letting the intrusive thoughts pass through” topic and tbh I still am not completely sure what that is supposed to look like?

Because supposedly, it’s not:

Ignoring them.

Denying them.

Examining them.

But rather “letting them sit there and then leave on their own?” I’ve heard it described as “watching leaves float down the river”, which is a very vivid visual and I get it, but I don’t know how that actually feels like in practice. So like, how do you do that without falling into “ignoring/denying them”?

If I try to remain aware they are there I am accidentally thinking them, right? H-Help?

I’ve also been told the “leaves on a river” thing and it never really worked for me either. Instead I just kinda imagine them as hanging out in the room of my mind as long as they feel like it, but it’s ok cause it’s a big room and I can do other stuff while they’re there. It’s completely ok for you to notice them, they’re there, and they don’t have to leave for you to turn your attention to something else, even if you’re still aware of them. “Don’t examine them” just means “don’t try to assign weight or meaning to them.” Like, don’t think you have to figure out what these thoughts mean about you, they mean nothing about you, they’re just there and not doing anything and existing only in your head

So here's Five's being cool, if blasé about Viktor's transition. He makes a single, supportive comment and then gets back to the task at hand.

You might think that Five's ambivalent about it: that when he says he's 'truly happy', that it's a figure of speech brought about by the fact Viktor is standing in front of him, coming out.

Five's an old man who's seen it all, and he could be forgiven if his acceptance was born purely out of thinking that gender identity is kind of irrelevant, especially when the world is at risk. But I'd disagree. Remember how he responded to Klaus's skirt?

This is his first time seeing Klaus in over 40 years.

Unless Viktor mentioned it in Extra Ordinary, Five would have no way of knowing that Klaus is non-binary. So, more than likely, this is his first time finding out that Klaus is, at least, gender non-conforming. There's a small moment of computation in this gif, where he looks at Klaus and goes: "Oh. That's new."

And then he says: "Nice dress."

He didn't have to say anything, but he chooses to make a single, supportive comment before getting back to the task at hand.

He cares, and he loves them, and he is truly happy for them.

the awesome thing about Sully is that he entertains the perfectly valid thoughts (“ever think about running away”) that torture Sam for his childhood and formative years. Because wanting a safe space from a negligent home situation is framed by John and Dean as the ultimate betrayal, as ungrateful, as selfish, as monstrous well into adulthood. Compare the way fandom contextualizes Sam running away in DSotM as one example with, you know, all those posts on here about self care and self spaces and looking after your mental health. You’d think a child who’s been brainwashed into “running into burning buildings since he was 12″, who had to learn how to shoot a gun at 9 years old, would fit into that. Oop. 

“you’re sam. sam is so awesome”: Sully values Sam for who he is as a person and not the function he can serve. Sam’s given approval by his family only when he fits into the hunting model and forsakes his goals and dreams. He was only valued by supernatural creatures because of the powers he gained through a non-consensual act done to him as a child and which he is repetitively punished for as an adult. There’s no reprieve from either side.

and you can see how that urgent need for approval drives Sam to do the exact opposite of what he really wants to do, to turn away from the one person who actually believed in him and was kind to him with no ulterior motives. Like how fucking desperate for love was this child to turn away from all of that, to pack that gigantic duffle which could fit two or three of him inside and head off.

but the really devastating thing about Sully when you think about it is that there’s nothing particularly amazing about him. Sully is what the norm should be. He’s the type of person Sam as a child (and children in general) should have, except Sam’s situation is so lonely and bleak and devoid of validation and acceptance that Sully seems fucking amazing.

I'm sorry but I can't keep trying to be nice to my brother and sister when they refuse to show me any sort of kindness or respect. I don't care if I will "need them" in the future mom. I get you had a falling out with your siblings and you regret it but why does that mean I just have to sit by while they treat me like absolute shit?
