I need a polite and effective way to say "hey your heart is truly in the right place and your anger is often righteous but I think sometimes you’re getting recreationally mad about things that are frankly not worth the amount of energy you’re spending on them, and every time you do this you're driving yourself slightly more insane with nothing to show for it," and then I need a way to broadcast that message through a loudspeaker to roughly 30,000 people at once, and THEN I need a time machine to send that message to my past self lol. and maybe a second time machine in case past me tries to be clever and sabotage the version of me who comes through the first time machine
Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.

No matter how you feel about Scarlett Johansson as a person, the fact is that with this claim, you should be supporting her in this case against Disney. It doesn’t matter that “she’s rich and she doesn’t need more money”, or whatever you think about the casting controversies. This is a legal breach of contract, that apparently meant she lost out on 50 MILLION DOLLARS. She is completely justified. And if she lost that much, how much did Florence possibly lose out on? Rachel and David? Anyone who’s acted in a Disney+ release, how much did they lose out on because the Mouse House are greedy fuckers who want 100% of the profits?
At the end of the day, it’s about equal pay. It’s about Disney not thinking that because they’re a multi-billion dollar conglomerate they’re allowed to bully their actors into taking less than they were promised. It’s about protecting actors who are not white A-List Hollywood stars with the means to endlessly fund expensive lawyers from the same exploitation in the future.
Until more information is released, I’m standing with Scarlett. You can’t really claim that you support professional women to demand what they’re worth and promised and then be like, “except her, she’s doing fine as is”. Even if her motivations were entirely selfish, or she doesn’t win, it’s highly likely at this point that with her big name, a lot of other actors are going to come forward.
(maybe I’m mad that she’s destroying her own mcu legacy but I suppose this was a bigger worry. also i’m a little confused because she just signed on to produce that Tower of Terror movie for Disney so is that now off? idk I just want everyone to be friends this fandom is never peaceful)
Also bear in mind, she’s clearly been pissed with them for months now, but was still professional enough to do the PR tour for the movie.
I read her complaint. This is legit.
Disney is legally obligated to meet the letter and spirit of its contractual obligations. Scarlett is alleging that Disney has failed to do so, perhaps intentionally. This is a breach of contact and likely tortious. She has the right to sue for damages. People should get the benefit of what they bargained for in their contractual agreements. People should not cheat other people.
Scarlett held up her end of the contract and apparently made a great movie. She claims that the contract was for theatrical release only for the first 90-120 days, because she negotiated a percentage of box office receipts as part of her compensation. Her complaint alleges that *the bulk of her compensation* was this back end percentage of revenue.
Previous Marvel movies had exclusive windows of at least 82 days, and 117 days on average. And people would pay to see the Marvel movie multiple times, so that’s more ticket revenue.
By releasing simultaneously on Disney+, Disney lured many new subscribers, and got them to pay $30 more to watch black widow, and its stock price rose, which increased compensation for Disney executives. This also cannibalized theatre box office receipts, including no one going to the theater multiple times, reducing Scarlett’s compensation. So Disney both made more money for itself AND had to pay Scarlett less money.
Disney needs to pay her all of what she’s owed. She is suing for intentional interference with contractual relations and inducing breach of contract.
Only a person as wealthy as Scarlett can afford the astronomical legal fees that it will cost to sue Disney. Millions of dollars, easily. And she might lose the lawsuit because Disney has very tough lawyers and uses very aggressive legal tactics. Only a person as wealthy as Scarlett can afford to gamble on millions in legal fees and know she might lose.
Only a person as successful as Scarlett has potential monetary damages that make it worth spending all that money on legal fees, because she could recover way more money than it costs her to bring that lawsuit. One article said she’s potentially looking at $60m in damages.
Only a person as successful as Scarlett can afford to piss off Disney, which owns basically everything, and potentially get blacklisted by other major studios. Could a less prominent actor risk their career with this sort of lawsuit? No. Could anyone else in that movie? No.
Scarlett should be applauded for standing up for her rights. This is her money, she earned it over ten years of developing Black Widow, and Disney needs to not fucking cheat her.
Disney damn well knew it needed to amend her contract, because Warner Bros. spent a fortune doing so when it moved all its releases to HBO Max. Disney said, “nah.” What about all the other movies that moved to Disney+? Did the cast of Raya get compensated?
Disney has a habit of screwing over creators. Unlike most of the others, Johansson can afford to sue them for it. Good for her. I hope she takes them to the cleaners. Because then the others will have a legal precedent that will help them pursue their own complaints against the company.
tumblr tuesday: ᕼOᗯ ‘ᗷOᑌT TᕼEᗰ ᔕᑎᗩKEᔕ
It’s nearly time, Tumblr. Friday is World Snake Day. We mention this only because, apparently, you really love snakes. (Except for those of you who really don’t, and to you, we say look away now or proceed with caution.) Today, we (celeb)rate all manner of snake and snake-adjacent friends who are longer than they are wide (yes, even worms).
Unsurprisingly, @omg-snakes is a blog exclusively dedicated to—get this—snakes. This baby can fit so much pizazz under those tiny pink scales. Hats off to you, sir, and your magnificent petal bed. Snakescore: 10/10.
@worm-of-the-day gets 10/10 for blog content and concept. You really nailed it. This specimen’s existential dread and thousand-yard stare get 3/10—and only because giving them some points might save us all from whatever void they’re traveling. Maybe. Just seems like the right thing to do.
@onenicebugperday is another excellent blog for curated content, this time, it’s all about the bugs. For example, this fella you see below: Are they longer than they are wide? Yes. Snakelike? Not really. Cute? You bet. 7/10.
Of course, we consulted @lowpolyanimals on the subject, and so here is a worm that may or may not be cursed. 4/10 for snakiness. 10/10 for terror.
@fimbry is another blog dedicated to the keeping and loving (and breeding—for real, check out their eggs!) of snakes. Here is one that once came from one of those eggs. His name is Trident, and he has good stripes. 10/10 and a little kiss on his shiny head.
@pencilbrony is a cryptid artist who often seems preoccupied with the nature of snakedom and what snakes would be like if they were, well, less like snakes. Here is an artistic rendering of the movement of a snake if it were shaped like a donut. Fascinating! 8/10!
@sweet-slither-friend lives with many well-dressed snakes, but Simon is the best of them. 10/10 for Simon and his tiny crown. You win, Simon. All snakes win, but you win the most.
Relatable.
