He taken back, if only just for a moment. He’s never truly left that terrible place. When his eyes close he’s lost in a sea of red drapes. His heart rate drops. The doctors scurry to find the source of his injuries, one of the nurses ushering Audrey back once more. They find nothing save an already bandaged bullet wound in his abdomen. “It’s not possible,” the doctor mumbled. “I took a billet out of this man two years ago. If this is Dale Cooper, that wound should be completely healed.”
Audrey is pushed back into her designated room, the door slamming shut behind her, but she abruptly presses her face against the window. That’s Dale Cooper, and there’s something terribly wrong with him. ❝ Hey! Hey! What’s going on? ❞ She’s yelling, but behind a soundproof door she’s not heard. She can only assume it’s something much more dire than she can think of. The doctor looks quite distressed as he accesses the damage ( though even she cannot see anything visible ). ❝ DALE! ❞
campaignoflies:
They kept asking him questions. Their voices were muffled by the high pitched rining in his ears. He laid still, looking straight up, his eyes not blinking. The only moment in his body was the slight rise and fall of his chest with each shallow breath. It was hardly noticeable. His suit was not torn or dirtied like it should have been from two years of exposure in the woods. But there was blood. Blood form an I identified source. There was no physical wounds on his body, yet he could not talk, could move.
Then he heard it. The voice that drowned out the deafening screams that only he could hear. Audrey. A name he knew before his own. It fell softly from his lips and he reached out to her before his eyes rolled back as the world became dark.
❝ I’m sorry, Ms. Horne, I am not a liberty to say. ❞ The nurse somewhat pushes Audrey back into her room---where Audrey knows she will close her in. She doesn’t want that, doesn’t want to be closed in. Like she has been for too long. ❝ -----No, no. Let me see him. I have to talk to him. ❞ The nurse looks stunned. Maybe it’s the fact that Audrey hasn’t spoken this much in over a year. But she’s not going to let the brunette have her way. ❝ I’m sorry, Audrey, I can’t let you do that. ❞ That is until Audrey notices the man that she knows has to be Dale Cooper reaches his hand out.
Audrey pushes passed the nurse and starts for the man on the stretcher. ❝ Agent Cooper? Dale? ----- what’s wrong with him?? ❞ Audrey wasn’t around when he went missing, she doesn’t know the extent of anything revolving around the previously missing agent. ❝ Dale wake up! ❞ deft hands grip at her upper arms, and she’s being pulled backwards. Her head crooks to the right and she can tell she’s being hauled off by two buff guards. ❝ NO! ❞
Late September, 1991 @campaignoflies
Everything seems so white. Her gown, the floor, the walls, the ceiling, even the light on the vanity mirror she stares into. Audrey almost can’t remember how beautiful colors are, and can only assume that fall is only beginning in Twin Peaks. It’s going on Two years that she’s been here on the fifth floor of this hospital after waking from her coma. Ben and Sylvia already had their plate full with Johnny and couldn’t possibly give Audrey all the care she needs.
It’s quiet today, and much like any other day, Audrey sits in a chair staring at herself in her vanity. She doesn’t talk much anymore---there’s no one here to talk to. But today is different. She hears a nurse read out a description from a missing person’s report. Everything describing him just as Audrey remembers. Surely it wasn’t Dale Cooper, though. Why would he be missing? She stands and pads barefooted to the door. There’s a slim rectangle of glass that she can see out, and when she notices a man with raven hair being brought in on a stretcher she gasps.
Unconsciously, Audrey begins to hit her fist against the door. Surely someone will come. Surely someone will hear her. A nurse stalks up to the door and opens the door, ❝ Good morning, Audrey, is there something I can help you with? ❞ Audrey doesn’t look at her, but rather a few feet over her shoulder where the man is still laying on the gurney. The nurse senses her distraction and follows her eyes. ❝ If you don’t need anything Ms. Horne, we’re quite busy--- ❞ Audrey finally speaks, having almost forgotten her own voice. ❝ ---is it him? It is Agent Cooper? ❞
agentcoopxr:
Dale heard her name the first time, and stepped away on instinct. Everyone in the room was looking at them now. “Audrey”, he said softly, nudging her towards the stage where her father was waiting. He smiled, acting as natural as possible despite the attention that had made him break into a light sweat. He gave Audrey a reassuring nod when she looked back at him on her way up to the stage.
Everyone is looking at them, she feels so dumb for not hearing anyone as her name was called out multiple times. ❝ I---I don’t even know what’s going on. ❞ Audrey murmurs towards Dale, but continues to walk towards the stage. Her father has a fake smile plastered on his face ( does he suspect? ). Once she’s next to him, he leans and whispers into her ear, ❝ Could you be any more oblivious as to what’s going on tonight? ❞ It’s not as curt as she expected. ❝ This is my daughter Audrey. Audrey, I’d like you to make the toast. ❞ Her palms begin to shake, perspiration forming on her forehead.----she doesn’t know what to say. Blue hues scan the crowd for Dale. He’d know what to say.
agentcoopxr:
“I see an intelligent, beautiful woman. Whom I love more than I am capable of expressing.” His fingers dug into her hips slightly, holding her ever so closer to his body. When she calls him ‘tempting’, a smile play on his lips. “So are you. Especially in that dress.” His eyes close, relaxing into the sway of the music and the warmth of the young woman in his arms. “I love you, Audrey Horne”, he whispers softly, almost delicate.
Audrey lays her head back onto his shoulder after gazing into his eyes. His continuous declaration of love to her makes her heart nearly palpitate. She’s never felt this way before---and certainly never felt this way about another person. ❝ ----and I love you, Dale Cooper. ❞ A voice rings out over the speakers in the room. It’s her father’s voice announcing something about a toast---but she can’t focus. She doesn’t even hear him say her name. Once, twice, and again.
agentcoopxr:
He supposed she was right. Audrey hadn’t been the first young woman to bat her eyes at him. But it didn’t matter. “I’m only looking at you.” His arms held her waist as he laid her head in his chest. It was more intimacy than they should have shown. But no one else in the room seemed to find it strange. Audrey was Audrey after all. “I’d like to kiss you right now.” Dale finds himself fighting to keep his hands in an approprite place. “And I don’t mean on your mouth.”
Her cheeks match the crimson table clothes on the tables. There’s no way around the feelings she has for this man. ❝ ----and what do you see? ❞ Her voice is low in his ear, the heels making her just the right height. From what she can see, no one in the room is paying them any more attention than the food on their plates or the champagne flutes in their hands. If they left now, would anyone notice? Would her father notice? ❝ You’re very tempting, you know. ❞

“They’re looking at you.”
While Audrey seems to think that he is the best thing in the world, Dale knows better. It was the captivating young woman on his arm that drew the attention. She was something else entirely, like no woman he’d ever met. She was the perfect mix of perfection and reality, of beauty and wit, of confidence and humility. One could say she was the woman of his dreams, and every other man on the planet. Yet some how she was enthralled with him. He could see it in her eyes, the way she looked at him like she would never let him go. No one has looked at him like that, with such possession, or with such love. He was hers, and she could have done with him what she wished. He probably would have commited a crime if she asked him to.
“They’re probably wondering why your dancing with me and not the handsome young business man Mr. Wheeler.”
❝ Mmm, ❞ Audrey scrunches her nose at the thought of John Justice Wheeler. ❝ He’s just like my father, it’d never work out---besides I’m spoken for. ❞ Daringly, she takes a step to close what little gap there is between their bodies as they twirl softly around the floor. Her hand have since worked their way up to wrap around his neck. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Everyone already calls Audrey Horne is a flirt.
❝ I see quite a few girls eyeing you, ❞ Her head lays against the breast of his suit, she’s watching every female in the room. She doesn’t watch out of jealousy or anything like that--- no. Dale Cooper loves her ( that she’s more than sure of ). If anything she watches for their reactions. She’s the luckiest woman in the world, after all.
agentcoopxr:
He laughed as she swatted him playfully. Audrey always made him smile foolishly, like he was a much younger man again. He’s sure that she chose exactly the dress she kew would drive him mad. It hugged her curves in all the right places. “That’s unfortunate because I’d like to get you out of that dress”, he whispers into her ear, being sure that his lips graze her skin just barley. It may have seemed risky, but he had made sure no one was looking. “Shall we dance?”
She melts in his arms, almost losing her footing---- yes he’s just that swoon worthy. ❝ Mmm, don’t tempt me! ❞ Her tone might be a little on the whiny side, but if he really tried she’d bail on the party regardless of her father’s wishes. ❝ That’ll do for now, ❞ Audrey intertwines her arms into his as he leads her towards the makeshift dance floor, Ben Horne having hired a Big Band for the occasion. ❝ Everyone’s looking at us, ❞ She murmurs in his ear, ❝ Think they’re jealous or on to us? ❞ Not that many people were looking at them---they’re looking at him. Dale Cooper is the IT man. Audrey once wrote in her diary: I bet Agent Cooper doesn’t even have to blow candles out--- I bet he just winks at them and they faint.
agentcoopxr:
Dale smiled, almost bashfully, when she pointed out his suit. Unlike the black and white uniform he usually donned, this one was a blue double breasted blazer with a lighter shade of the same hue beneath and a neatly folded pocket square. “And you look devastating, as always” He looked around before planting a soft kiss on her cheek. “I’m not sure. I believe Harry told me, but I wasn’t listening.” His fingers were absently brushing the fabric that hung around her hips. He was standing closer to her than he probably should have. “How long do you think we have to stay.”
Cheeks as pink as her lips, Audrey smiles up at him coyly. That suit is really doing it for her--- the way it’s so well fit and all in the right places too. That stark black hair slicked back in the way he always has it. Jesus Christ it’s a miracle she doesn’t jump him right here. ❝ Way to pay attention, Agent. ❞ She jokes, slapping him playfully on the arm. ❝ Longer than I’d like--- father didn’t give me details, but of course he’d like be to stick around for sort of auction? ❞ She too hadn’t payed a lick of attention.
agentcoopxr:
His hand stays in hers until the very last seconds, a feeling of emptiness fills his chest as her warmth leaves him completely. He follows after her, as in a trance, but she shuts the door before he can pull her back in. Dale Cooper found himself increasingly distracted, unable to focus on anything without complete dedication to keeping Audrey out of his thoughts for a few moments. That night in the dining hall of the Great Northern, he could hardly keep his eyes off of her. When they found themselves alone in a secluded corner, his finger brushed her elbow gently. “I thought about you all day.”
Audrey goes about her day, a little more pep in her step than usual. Sneaking into the bathroom, she lights up a cigarette and wonders if he’s been thinking about her just as much she has been of him. To the best of her ability she manages her way through the school day. It’s not until she gets back to the Lodge that she finds her self impatiently waiting around for any sign of Dale Cooper.
Her father’s got some big ordeal going on tonight, and it’s just the right amount of people that neither could be singled out in a crowd. The two manage to sneak away, out of view, and into the back corner of the room. ❝ I can’t get you out of my head--- not that I’d ever want to. ❞ She beams up at him through thick lashes. ❝ You’re looking extra handsome tonight. Have any idea what all this is about? ❞ She’s referring to her father’s company. Most of Twin Peak’s finest--- though she noted Laura and Leland Palmer in the room too.
agentcoopxr:
“Morning”, he repeated with a smile. His arm was wrapped around her waist, holding her close to the warmth of his body. The chill of morning air nipped at any skin exposed above the blankets. He held her close until the clock announced that she had to sneak back to her room through the hidden passageways of the old hotel. “Audrey, wait.” He reached for her as she sits on the edge of her bed, pulling on her shoes. “When will I see you again?”
The alarm elicits a frown----she doesn’t want to leave him. She’ll, without a doubt, spend the whole day thinking about him. In school she will be worthless ( is there even any point in going ? ). ❝ Any time you like. You know where to find me. ❞ Comes her reply just as she finishes tying the other oxford shoe and standing. ❝ ---And, ❞ She leans over the bed to plant her lips right to his, ❝ A good luck kiss for my favorite Special Agent. ❞
agentcoopxr:
The warmth of her body pressed against him made him feel a sense of wholeness, and sleep came easily. Once his eyes had closed, it seemed like moments before they opened again, sunlight streaming in through the window. He glanced at his watch on the nightstand. 5:15. Early enough. They still had time. Dale kissed her forehead softly, taking a moment to admire how peaceful she looked while she was asleep.
Audrey sleeps soundly through the night. Not once did she stir away like she normally does, and not one nightmare. The feeling of his warm and soft lips pressed to her forehead, however, does wake her. A lazy smile pulling from her lips, eye lips sleepily fluttering open and shut, struggling from the sunlight that spills in effortlessly from the window. ❝ morning.❞
“Twin Peaks is different. A long way from the world.”
agentcoopxr:
“Yes, my lady.” Dale flashes a toothy grin before scoping her up in his arms, carrying her toward the bed. He flicked off the light on their way over, dropping her gently on the mattress. “I’ll warm you up.” He pulled the blankets up around them, wrapping her up in his arms from behind. She fit snugly against him. The perfect little spoon he thought.
Audrey gasps out a yelp followed by a laugh as he carries her fireman style to the bed. ❝ Dale! ❞ Once the lights are out and she struggles her way under the covers and as close as she can get to him, Audrey finds that tonight will be the easiest night to fall asleep. His large frame wrapped around hers, the cold long gone.
