My Fish Is Burning
Every now and then I find some obscure sound tinkerers on Bandcamp that turn out to be great artists.
Today is the Perfect Date!
Defend them from what?
Presumably, from the consequences of their own actions.

Metropolis poster art by Werner Graul, 1927.
Mid-Century Manhattan
S-Bahnhof Savignyplatz in 1993.
I absolutely love Chris John deWitt‘s tumblr with old photographs of West-Berlin behause his shots capture the Zeitgeist of my youth with documentary precision. This particular image shows the entrance to the „Gaunergasse“ (Crook‘s Alley) where I spent a good part of my adolescence in the mind-80s. A decade before that, Liza Minelli screamed her guts out under the bridge in that one scene from „Cabaret“. My mother used to go there to bail her boss out when he had gotten over his head in one of the (illegal) gambling dens. At the far end of the alley was a clothing store where I bought my „Bundfaltenhosen“. By 1993, the street had lost most of its charme but was still recognizable enough to evoke memories of a time when you never really knew how long the world would continue (it was the height of the Cold War and missiles were pointed at all of us – we might die any day).
This really makes me want to play Mario Odyssee.
How Hard Is It to Draw a Brand Logo From Memory?
Signs.com asked 150 Americans to draw 10 famous logos from memory. Some results are straight comedy for some of the brands. But it raises a even greater question of what value there is, exactly, in the simplicity or complexity of a brand mark.

And speaking of Snarky Puppy, this is a band that could really put some life (and legitimacy) back into the old (and somewhat disheveled) term Jazz-Rock and I'd be happy for that.
