One thing I can’t stop thinking about, is how Bear interacts with Sarah and how they are technically in the same boat but they react VERY differently. Bear is a coward. He can’t tell Nikki how he feels about her, but also can’t be vulnerable with her about anything really. He lies on the phone about why he doesn’t want to go out instead of talking to her about Sandy. Even after the wish he still has trouble confronting Nikki on her unsettling behaviour. But he can talk to Sarah. He tells Sarah about the cat, about his feelings for Nikki. And it’s because he doesn’t want to fuck her. Bear uses Sarah as a “practice” woman so he can say how he feels in what he considers a low stakes situation. He doesn’t care if Sarah reacts poorly to his feelings because he isn’t interested in her. And while Bear is being “friend zoned” by Nikki, and acting like it’s a problem, he doesn’t consider it a problem to do the same to Sarah. Nikki knows Bear has a crush on her and tries to shut it down. Bear knows Sarah has a crush on him and keeps her around and talks about his feelings, and uses her for affection and validation even though he’s not giving much in return. But notice how Sarah doesn’t violate his autonomy about it? I hated Baron out the gate lol but the longer I think about this movie, he just gets worse.
