i really like maria's redesign in patho2. i mean, she's great in the original, but she's a femme fatale and not much else. in patho2, she's like a wild animal, not too intimidating, but like she could swoop in and claw your eyes out at any moment, and you wouldn't even get what you did wrong. and that's actually scary.

My controversial take of the week is that the Trix are the worst offenders in the reboot when it comes to fashion choices. Let me explain.

Let’s start with Icy. The combination of patterned tights, an undershirt, a necklace, and an intricate belt makes for a horribly overloaded outfit. I’d even argue that the sparkly sleeveless top counts as an accessory on its own. There’s simply too much going on—she gives off the vibe of a teenager who decided to wear all of their best clothes at once without stopping to consider whether they actually go together.

side note: not them giving Bloom's basic transformation outfit to Icy LMAO

Ah, Darcy, my little Shein warrior. Once again, too much detail on both the top and bottom makes the outfit look unbalanced. All I can think of when I see her is the 2020 TikTok baddies, dripped out in dropshipped clothes: the belt, the top with a detached sleeve, even the hair… Cheap, tacky, microtrend-esque, and about six years too late.

side note: also, this picture was taken from the concept art, the pants look so much worse in the actual reboot

Stormy's outfit is no different, though I'd like it way better if there was no lightning print on her shirt. I think, out of all three, hers looks the most balanced, but again, the bar is very low. I don't even want to talk about a singular ripped stocking on her left leg with two garters. Let's pretend it doesn't exist for the sake of my sanity.

Conclusion: This show is clearly intended for very young children. Long gone are the days when kids’ shows had genuine fashion experts on the team. Now, an ice witch’s outfit has to feature snowflake-patterned tights, and a storm witch’s top has to display a lightning motif—lest the five-year-olds forget who is who. Every outfit is colorful and maximalist, with far too much going on, yet not an ounce of creativity or care has been poured into constructing genuinely good designs that reflect the characters’ personalities, those are practically the same outfit in three different fonts. I can’t wait for the day when we stop oversimplifying everything for the sake of creating easily digestible children’s content. Kids are not morons.

As far as "comic pages that build anticipation for the reader" go this is far above what I expect for a Winx comic, but they did get suddenly way better after s2 and this is great

This moment is GREAT for making the reader hate Darko, it's amazing characterization, he's the fuckin worse

And it works REALLY hard to sell Stella fear

The amount of fucks Icy's gives are about as low as the ice she creates I love her so much

This is such a fun dynamic too bc it's an obvious power struggle for top dog, but we are in the know about how Icy could kill him with a finger tip
