i do think my whole first playthrough of 14 was full of banger messages to my spouse, tbh

i cannot stress enough that i went into stormblood blind after making alta a hotgo *only* because i wanted to draw facepaint. i did no reading about the expac contents, only pre-game lore content on the squex forum. i had no idea we were going to go to the steppe, or that we'd work with the dotharl.

i don't often consider alta bloodthirsty, but the times i do think she would want to inflict violence, i feel like it often isn't sated well because most of her methods are hands-off magic. she can suffocate people with aero, or stone them to death, or any manner of elemental kills, but those don't often give her the satisfaction of knowing something has died beneath her hands.

for all the violence she had engaged in over the course of her life thus far, sheri grayson did not necessarily believe in the idea that violence was inherent to any being. and these days, she was vehemently opposed to the notion, if only because she refused to give zenos fuel for his personal beliefs. man was not inclined to violence-- rage? surely. but not violence. the violence was learned; as a coeurl learns to tackle its prey from its parents, or a fawn learns to run alongside its mother from danger.

perhaps that was just lave's optimism peeking through the veil.

temulun waxes on about the beliefs of the xaela, the idea that they were made for killing and being killed, the night before the nadaam takes place. sheri listens intently, as she always has. observation is key when moving in a new environment, after all.

"and i encourage violence." alta's tone is jarring, razor sharp with the cold ring of steel. sheri is unable to hide the snap of her head as she looks at the mage beside her. "do not withhold. the other tribes will not be so restrained. especially not the dotharl."

the bard had been wondering about the details of alta's history on the steppe. she had been forthcoming about being potentially the last of her tribe, but had not necessarily named the tribe that attacked hers. perhaps under the idea that the scions would never come here, perhaps trying not to relive the memory. over the last few days, sheri had observed that alta seemed to move with ease among those in reunion and with the mol, but tread more carefully with oronir. and conveniently found herself a different task to undertake when they visited with the dotharl. this reaction was all the confirmation she needed.

russet brown eyes meet sky blue, slightly glowing in the dim light of the mol tent. something deep burns in the blue hue of her eyes. it rings with a familiar note in sheri's mind, but thankfully does not trigger the echo.

she nods curtly. "as you say. my bow will be swift. they will not get the chance to triumph this nadaam."
