What is Avatar WTF Weekend?

This event is dedicated to ultra-rare pairings from the Avatar: the Last Airbender universe. While the spirit of the event is around what's known as crack pairings, any pairing with fewer than 10 fics on AO3 is allowed.

When is it?

The fourth edition of the event will run the last weekend of summer from Friday, August 29th through Sunday, August 31st.

Schedule of events is as follows:

Prompt Submission begins: June 13-27

Prompt Voting: June 30-July 14

Prompt Reveal: July 18

Avatar WTF Weekend: Friday, August 29th - Sunday, August 31st

How to participate?

Making content! This can include fics, art, moodboards, playlists, gifs, or any other art medium. If you have a crack pairing you’ve always wanted to show off, now’s your chance!

When you post, be sure to tag the blog or use the hashtag #avatarwtfweekend.

What pairings count?

Any pairings from anywhere in the Avatar universe - including ATLA, LOK, comics, and novels - with less than 10 tagged fics on AO3 will count for the purpose of the event with the following exceptions: incest and adult/child relationships. Age gaps are okay! We mean literal children here.

Are platonic relationships allowed?

For the purpose of the event, we are asking for romantic pairings only (even if the pairing isn’t explicitly dating — they should be romantically interested in each other). Platonic background relationships are allowed.

What about polyships?

Yes! Absolutely. As long as the poly relationship as a unit does not have more than ten fics in the tag on AO3.

Can we have crossovers?

No, submissions cannot be crossovers from other fandoms. Only Avatar universes and characters are allowed. However, you are free to do crossovers within different eras of Avatar. Throw the Krew in with the Gaang and see who gets a crush! As long as the pairing meets the rest of the rules, go nuts!

Is NSFW allowed?

Yes, the event will accept M and E rated fics so long as characters are 18+ or aged up, the works are properly tagged and rated, and nsfw content shared to Tumblr is placed under a cut with proper tagging. No non-con or CNC.

Happy you stumbled upon us! As far as we can tell there aren't any fics at all for Yangchen x Kuruk, so it would definitely count for this event and future WTF Weekends!

A First Time for Everything

@btheleaf posted a bunch of headcanons about a Pema/Tenzin/Lin/Suyin's Chef polycule and my brain immediately went "Tenzin/Chef?!?!?!?" because I run on a fandom diet of 85% pure unadulterated crack.

Then it was @avatar-wtf-weekend. How convenient. Day 2: Yearning.

And so here we are. Featuring bottom bisexual Tenzin and a very supportive wife encouraging him to live it up at least once.

I kid y’all not, I have been thinking a lot about Jeong Jeong/Pakku it’s not even funny.

Like yes there’s the obvious Fire/Water & Ying/Yang concepts that they both kinda fall into, but there’s also the potential of this very bitter and quiet yearning these two old gasbags can have. That they’re so in their senior and have become hardened by war & tragedy that they haven’t allowed themselves to feel that sense of softness and intimacy with someone in ages. And when they do find that someone (in each other perhaps?), it’s never anything straightforward with these two. With Jeong Jeong being fresh from desertion & still stewing in his own issues and Pakku having moved down South & rekindling with Kanna, yet that flame has long since left on her part…

Just old, bitter, sad yearning for someone but they’re so stuck and stubborn they don’t fess up. At least, thats what I say.

This is lovely and beautiful. We hope they find a way to say it before too long. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are not one bit sorry that this event has prompted you to think more about this pairing.

Pairing: Longshot/Mai Summary: It's been about five years since Longshot arrived in Ba Sing Se and met the Freedom Fighters. Five years since he was thrust into a world he never suspected to exist, within the perpetual struggle between prey and predator. Almost the same amount of time since he, a human, had fallen in love with a vampire. He and Mai are at a tipping point; he has to make a choice, and he knows it, but fear, love and friendship aren't making it easy. Of course, there's always the possibility of destiny making that choice for him...

“Hey, Mako. Get in here,” Saikhan called out from his office.

Mako turned his head sharply, but couldn’t actually see the Assistant Chief from his own desk. With a grunt, he stood and walked over to the AC’s open door.

“AC?”

Saikhan waved him inside. “You used to hang out at the pro-bending arena, right? You know the building pretty well. I’ve got a call here I want you to check out.” He ripped a page from his notepad and flourished it in his direction.

The note read: voices coming from arena, late night, no match

“Ah, AC… this isn’t much to go on,” Mako ventured. He flipped the page over, in case he was missing something.

Saikhan smirked. “The desk figures it’s just a drunk. Not sure if he meant making the noise or making the call. Take your brother and check it out. Radio back before you go home.”

Mako took the dismissal and closed the door behind himself. Five minutes later, he and Bolin were in the car, making their way across town.

“Voices at the arena, huh?” Bolin mused. “It sure didn’t seem like the spirits liked the place. And most of the ones that talk don’t really go around at night. Have they learned the rules? Are we going to have spirit teams? Can spirits bend elements?”

Mako could practically feel the steam pouring out of Bolin’s brain, and wasn’t surprised when his brother asked if they should collect Korra on the way over.

He did manage not to sigh too heavily, he thought. “It’s probably just some drunk who’s singing to himself. Or to the moon. Or to the water spirits.” Another turn, and they started down the driveway to the parking lot.

The arena, as always, was lit brightly enough to read by. From the far side of the parking lot. Mako stopped the car and killed the engine, rolling down a window to take in the cool air wafting off the water.

And sure enough, he heard the voices. It sounded like two of them, and it sounded like a conversation.

Bolin’s door opened, and he had to call out to the idiot to slow down and be patient - and careful - about the approach. They still had no idea what was going on.

With a dozen apologies and a handful of reassurances, the brothers split up to opposite edges of the parking lot, trying to stay outside the halos of the lights staggered across the field of asphalt.

The closer they got to the arena, it felt like the voices were getting faster. He still couldn’t make out individual words, but he was getting the impression of the speech patterns. They felt familiar somehow, which was confusing. The arena was shut down for a month following the pro-bending season, before some of the other events started being staged.

Paying attention to these unpredictable, unintelligible voices and also keeping an eye on Bolin was going to send him to bed just as soon as he could get them home.

He’d be calling back to the station from his apartment. There wasn’t a pay phone for blocks in any direction.

“OH!”

The word, clear as could be, jolted Mako back to his goal: figuring out what was going on with those noises.

Across the lot, Bolin had picked up the pace and was waving at him to hurry up.

Something about that exclamation made him want to run away, but he still couldn’t put his finger on it.

There was another voice, but it was lower, harder to distinguish. Again, the music of the voice felt familiar - just different.

The first voice replied, its tempo was even more intense than it had been before, still feeling so familiar…

“YES! That’s the stuff!”

Mako felt frozen in place. He thought he knew who that was…

“Isn’t that Shinobi’s voice?” Bolin asked with clear confusion. “Why would he be here if there are no matches going on?”

The rest of Mako’s blood froze in his veins as the voice continued, and it became unavoidably understandable in excruciating detail.

“What a fantastic display of virtuosity! The use of hands alone would be noteworthy, but that mouth! I’m currently straining my pants…”

He couldn’t help it. He clapped his hands over Bolin’s ears.

Except Bolin was much stronger, and shoved him aside.

Just in time to end both of their lives in mutual embarrassment when they heard:

“You really love the sound of your own voice, don’t you?”

It would be weeks before either of them could look Lin Beifong in the eye.

Summary: In the stillness of Zaofu's gardens and mornings over tea, Suyin and Asami stumble into a rhythm that walks the fine line between friendship and something more. To pursue whatever this is, Suyin knows she must share the truth about her marriage, but uncertainty lingers.

Author’s Note: Originally, I wanted to write a Lin Beifong x Asami Sato fic, but that doesn't meet the criteria for WTF Weekend, so I settled on this idea.

Written for Day 2, “Yearning”, for @avatar-wtf-weekend.

This is my final contribution to this year’s event. I’d had a few more ideas, but unfortunately they never made it to the page.
