Reason:

Cute. Chemistry. I like Jin. Zuko needs someone with a warm personality rather than a cold one (firebender pun unintended). The cute headcanons I keep thinking of for this ship. If Kataang is Aang, air, and Katara, water, we need an earth + fire ship.

Brash + Soothing. Becomes more confident + softens up. Trauma bonding. Working through their differences for eachother. They'd both be very protective in different ways, Song is emotionally while Jet's more obvious and usually applies it to outward threats. It'd end up being adorable, admit it. Just imagine it.

Dynamic:

Flirtatious, fling, potential for longterm but it'd need a lot of work.

Reason:

Jet, the leader of rebels (Freedom Fighters) and Jiang, a rebellious pirate captain. Similar personalities. Sword wielders. Extremist + Daofei member. High-stakes angst and ideological conflict. Fierce protectiveness and loyalty to their crews. They'd probably end up choosing their respective crews over eachother.

Disclaimer: Jet's confirmed age is 16. I do not know Jiang's. She seems plausibly 16 too but could be an adult. Unless her age is confirmed otherwise, I ship them as is. If she turns out an adult, I'd only ship Jet once he is an adult too.

Dynamic:

QPR with cheek kisses and cuddling. Comfort above all else.

Reason:

If I had to pair Yue with someone other than Sokka, I'd pick Haru. Since they're both soft spoken and have strong loyalty to their cultures, but Yue is passive while Haru is rebellious, I think they'd harmonize well. It's just cute.

Mechtech / Sateo

Characters:

Satoru Teo

Dynamic:

Long distance, QPR, eventual working partners.

Reason:

Engineer + son of a mechanic. Easy going personalities. They'd nerd out toghether. Teo feels conflicted about Satoru's interest in industrial machinery as he's seen the harm it does to the enviroment around it (like what he saw his dad do to the Northern Air Temple) while Satoru is very eager to please Teo and doesn't quite grasp the moral implications yet. Eventually Satoru opts to find more environment friendly ways to keep his job.

Disclaimer: While Teo's confirmed age is 13, I do not know what Satoru's is. I suspect 16, since the international standard and most common minimum employment age worldwide IRL is 15 years old. And even though Satoru is an Executive Partner, it could be by birthright rather than full time professional position.

Very close in age, fun-loving, stubborn yet easy going girl + easy going guy, disabled earth kingdom kids refusing to let other's perception of them define them, cute fluff. But I'm also very in favor of aroace spec Toph, so this isn't an active ship of mine.

Yutara: Katara + Yue (Interesting pairing, not sure if I see it as a ship though.)

Tyzula: Ty Lee + Azula (I see Azula as acespec and these two have a lot of tension.)

Haruteo: Teo + Haru (Cute but eh.)

Zukaang: Zuko + Aang (Interesting parallels but age gap and rough history.)

Jetkka: Jet + Sokka (Parallels and personality, but other Jet ships came first.)

Jetara: Jet + Katara (Cute, but I think I'll always see the pairing as one-sided and platonic.)

Yuzula: Yue + Azula (Abused princesses finding comfort in eachother is nice but something doesn't quite click with me.)

Jetaru/Jetru: Jet + Haru (Adorable. Not quite doing it for me, though.)

Ozhao: Zhao + Ozai (Crackship to explain how he rose the ranks so fast but I've got nothing else going for it.)

Piandao and Yon Ra, or Yue and Bumi give us very special stories in the ultra rare pairs.

But The Mango Tree? Blazing Sunsets? How I Always Loved You? 12,256?

You’ve given us so many stories that show your deep affection for these characters, no matter the emotional frame.

And I love how you can take Asami and Iroh on such different journeys. Smoke, Starvation Paradise, I Can Fix It, Uncommon Rains… Even your recent Ten-foot High Club. Very different stories, but so very you.

What can I say? I love putting my dolls in situations, but it's always the same dolls and it's always me writing it, so it can't be all that different even when it is.

As to the pairings, I can only take partial credit for those as I often get the ideas from other people. Sometimes someone says something and it makes my brain sparkle.

What are your favorite ATLA rarepairs for pure smut purposes? The only chemistry we’re concerned with here is how explosive they are in bed lol

...you know, I genuinely don't remember getting this ask, but I like it.

Asking me to pick a favorite rarepair is cruel, because I love all the rarepairs. I'd choose "all of the above" if that was an option. But if you're going to make me...damn, this is a hard choice. Well, Jetlee and TyShot are definitely up there. I'd say Longbee but they're my favorite in general, so not sure I can count that. And Azutara and JetMai are pretty good, too.

I guess Jetlee, TyShot, Azutara, and JetMai, for purely smut purposes (and damn, I should really write some smut for those pairings, shouldn't I?).

👀 Definitely curious about Jet/Sokka! Jet is meant to be a foil for Sokka, after all, having all the wit but none of the "morality." And it's clear that Sokka is jealous of Jet at the beginning of the episode, which is easy to translate into Ooh, he's crushing on Jet!! if you put some funky-fresh shipping goggles on.

💚 Iroh/Toph. Yes, that's Iroh the First. The old tea man. The wise guide. The uncle of Zuko. And most importantly, Toph is aged up here.

First by White Aster turned me on to Iroh/Toph with the absolutely beautiful writing style! It wasn't gross like I expected that pairing to be, which shocked me into loving them.
