Several important informations:
The first tweet is from "Jon de Lorraine". He is a french influencer acting like a journalist, even though he isn't a professional. He pretends his informations are neutral when they aren't. Finding informations about him is very difficult and this fact alone is alarming. People who can be trusted with informations don't hide who they are in the first place. After hours of researches, I finally found an official article talking about his political beliefs and oh surprise, he's close to the french far-right movement. He advocates for things that are popular to gain attention so the most unpopular beliefs he has (racism, sexism, etc) can be seen as acceptable when mingled with all the "right" things he does. It's a common strategy used by the alt-right, you can learn more about it here.
So yeah. Be careful about who you follow and what they're advocating for and be very warry of people who pretend they don't have any agenda. People like him are dangerous because they lack transparency about their real goal.
As for Paul Walsh, he isn't a professionnal in informations either, and doesn't give any sources as far as I can tell. It doesn't mean he's wrong. I honestly don't know and don't have time to do more researches than I already did. But it's important to keep in mind we NEED to be careful about informations we receive, from whom, how and why. Paul Walsh present himself as an "Expert in online safety and privacy (fraud, espionage, phishing)" but I couldn't find how he got said expertise and if it means he has real knowledge about what he's talking about in this post.
Be warry of "neutral" people who are just one person pretending to inform you all by themselves. Information is something hard to handle. Reason why official journalists has a whole process to follow before writing and sharing an article.
Follow real independent medias with people being honest about their goal, who they are and how they work (and for whom). Don't fall for the cult of personnality.
If you look for informations about someone trying to "inform" you and it's hard to understand who they are and how to hold them accountable when they fuck up, run away.
Why is it important?
Because the tweet "Jon de Lorraine" posted is missing crucial informations in my opinion, even though his alert is more or less accurate. He simply rase rage without giving tools.
But if we want to take action, we need context. We need to understand the timeline. We need to understand who is doing what and when.
So here are the few informations I gathered:
Controlling internet is something people of power are trying to do over and over again since many years.
Last year (2025), the European parliament made a proposal for a new law called "the draft EU Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) Regulation" that has been called out under the name of "Chat Control" by a network of european associations (for my french fellas, "La Quadrature du Net" is part of this network).
The 9 of July 2026, what they call "Chat Control 1.0" passed even though a majority of voting members opposed this regulation. For the association network mentionned above, it's a critical blow against democracy itself. They are now making a "Chat Control 2.0" and representative will have to vote for or against it in September 2026.
I'm learning the details as I am writing this, and it's hard for me to make sure the informations is easy and accessible because I'm not a professional and I know very few things about all of this.

Overall and from the informations I gathered, I think this law and the projects around it are dangerous. But the devil hides in details and we all should try to understand exactly what is going on when so much is at stakes.
If you reach the same conclusion as me (this law project is dangerous), you can contact your representatives to ask them to stand against this project. For now, only one country in europe is against it, and it's Italy.
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovajia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden supports it. Other countries are split.
