          they  say  opposites  attract  ,  that  they  complete  each  other  in  some  way  or  another  ,  but  jinhyuk  could  not  disagree  more  .  opposites  did  not  attract  &  the  opposite  of  him  was  absolutely  insufferable  .  the  opposite’s  name  was  suyeong  &  jinhyuk  couldn’t  fucking  stand  him  .

          from  the  moment  water  boy  had  stepped  into  his  room  ,  the  room  he’d  been  alone  in  for  almost  three  years  after  everyone  refused  to  be  roomed  with  the  hotheaded  boy  who  would  probably  singe  their  hair  in  the  middle  of  the  night  ,  jinhyuk  wasn’t  fond  of  him  .  maybe  it  was  because  of  his  intense  hatred  for  his  space  being  taken  over  or  that  him  &  water  didn’t  mesh  well  ,  maybe  it  was  even  that  suyeong  was  too  beautiful  for  his  own  good  &  he  fucking  knew  it  .

          long  story  short  .  the  two  didn’t  quite  see  eye  to  eye  on  most  occasions  .

          today  wasn’t  any  different  .  jinhyuk  was  exhausted  ,  his  body  ached  ,  the  faint  pulsing  against  the  burn  scars  littered  across  his  body  didn’t  help  the  situation  .  all  he  had  wanted  was  to  lie  down  in  his  bed  so  he  could  doze  off  &  forget  the  world  for  seven  hours  until  he  had  to  face  it  again  .

          of  course  ,  his  roommate  didn’t  have  the  same  plan  .  

          upon  walking  in  ,  jinhyuk  tried  to  ignore  the  two  voices  in  the  living  room  .  one  of  them  was  suyeong’s  &  the  other  some  poor  boy  he  was  sure  was  getting  screwed  over  right  about  now  .  feeling  his  blood  boil  ,  he  toes  off  his  shoes  ,  throwing  his  bag  onto  the  table  before  making  his  way  into  the  kitchen  hands  gripping  down  on  the  counter  ,  “  suyeong  ,  sweetheart  ,  ”  he  grits  out  ,  “  get  that  boy  out  of  our  place  before  i  physically  throw  him  out  myself  .  ”

          if she were to be completely honest with herself, she probably already knows the reason. but she chooses to ignore it, for her own sake.

         “i think it’s going to rain today. did you bring an umbrella?” granted, she doesn’t know how much water affects him, but she assumes that it wouldn’t be the best thing for a power like his. if nothing else, she knows that very few people enjoy walking in the rain like she does, but she suspects her abilities are to blame for that. “i brought an extra if you want.” yena looks up, gives a pointed look his way, head tilted to the side as she relaxes into a casual grin. “unless you want to get wet and try something new, i guess.”

          there’s  not  much  that  could  get  jinhyuk  to  say  something  from  the  bottom  of  his  heart  .  he’s  positive  he  barely  has  one  anymore  ,  letting  it  deteriorate  overtime  &  lose  whatever  light  it  was  holding  on  to  .  for  most  of  his  life  ,  the  light  was  dull  ,  his  brother  made  it  stronger  when  he  came  around  &  when  he  left  ?  he  took  all  of  it  with  him  .  the  shine  ,  the  gleam  ,  the  glow  .  all  left  to  turn  the  organ  into  ash  ,  perhaps  his  own  abilities  burned  his  heart  to  a  crisp  &  his  own  father  was  right  .

         it’s  why  things  are  so  touch  &  go  .  why  feelings  are  something  he  can  never  figure  out  ,  rather  he  doesn’t  ever  want  to.  

         especially  when  it  comes  to  yena  .

         there’s  a  word  for  it  &  he  knows  that  .  he’s  not  dense  nor  is  he  naive  about  the  inner  workings  of  a  human’s  brain  ,  but  he  chooses  to  fear  take  over  until  he’s  snapping  at  her  or  saying  something  he  really  shouldn’t  .  jinhyuk  likes  her  ,  that  much  is  clear  .  moments  when  he  wants  to  hold  her  close  &  brush  the  hair  from  her  eyes  ,  smile  at  her  fondly  .  she’s  soft  &  he  wants  to  feel  her  melt  between  his  fingers  .

         thoughts  like  that  are  usually  followed  by  his  brain  kicking  in  &  forcing  something  out  of  his  mouth  ,  to  keep  up  the  cliche  villain  instead  of  letting  someone  open  him  up  &  pry  his  old  self  out  .

         however  ,  today  isn’t  one  of  those  days  .  his  heart  lets  him  indulge  in  her  presence  ,  a  smile  that’s  hard  to  come  by  graces  across  his  lips  ,  “  i  didn’t  ,  ”  jinhyuk  chuckles  ,  turning  his  head  towards  her  ,  “  but  good  thing  you’re  here  with  me  ,  huh  ?  wanna  protect  me  from  the  rain  ,  sunshine  ?  ”

“h-hello?” the boy answers, voice filled with sadness, “ye-yeah it’s me… so-sorry now’s really not  a good ti —”

the unfamiliar voice and the mention of a journal, makes him bolt up in panic, “where - where are y-you?”

          jinhyuk  isn’t  quite  sure  what  comes  over  him  to  actually  give  the  person  back  what  was  rightfully  there’s  .  in  most  cases  ,  he  would  have  just  left  it  where  he  found  it  after  snooping  through  it  ,  gathering  the  information  he  could  &  moving  on  with  his  life  .

          yet  ,  he  can’t  help  but  let  the  part  of  him  he’s  tried  so  hard  to  let  go  take  over  .  the  part  of  him  that  felt  the  pain  &  hurt  in  what  was  written  seep  deep  within  his  bones  ,  slipping  through  the  cracks  of  past  memories  he  very  much  so  wanted  to  avoid  .  

          that’s  why  ,  after  hearing  the  words  where  are  you  ,  half  of  jinhyuk  just  wants  to  slam  down  his  phone  ,  end  the  call  &  move  on  .  but  ,  he’s  being  pulled  by  the  small  voice  on  the  other  end  &  his  heart  clenches  inside  of  his  chest  .

          clearing  his  throat  ,  he  says  ,  “  i---  i’m  at  the  park  ,  near  the  fountain  .  don’t  worry  ,  it’s  not  damaged  .  ”  he  doesn’t  know  what  possesses  him  to  give  the  boy  reassurance  ,  “  i  don’t  have  all  day  ,  so  i  hope  you’re  a  fast  runner  ,  kid  .  ”

          it  was  dumb  to  say  that  ,  jinhyuk  knew  in  his  heart  of  hearts  ,  he  would  wait  for  whoever  was  on  the  other  end  as  long  as  it  took  them  to  get  there  .  &  that  realization  alone  didn’t  do  anything  good  .

sungjin has been running around the academy for what seems like an eternity. he’s retraced each step he took in this huge campus, talked frantically at all the students he came across to, looked at every nook and cranny but still he couldn’t find what he was searching for

                  great! just great!

             i’m barely a week into this place and you’ve already lost it!

                                   did i look in the library? yes.

                          the canteen? yes

                                                        ugh.

sungjin is about to crack, scratching his head in frustration, seconds away from actually breaking down and crying on the floor.

of all the things he could lose it was his journal. that journal is important to him, more important than anything else in his life right now. it held secrets, it held stories, it held every remaining bit of the boy after that horrid night.

and now it’s all gone.

jinhyuk  wasn’t  necessarily  a  nosy  person  .  always  tended  to  keep  to  himself  unless  it  was  beneficial  to  him  or  a  cause  he  was  involved  in  .  however  ,  that  was  a  rare  occasion  as  most  people  attending  the  academy  had  absolutely  nothing  to  offer  him  .  being  nosy  took  effort  ,  effort  that  jinhyuk  didn’t  want  to  exude  for  anyone  ,  no  one  was  worth  it  enough  .  

yet  ,  for  some  reason  ,  when  he  finds  a  tattered  up  book  bound  in  leather  ,  he’s  curious  &  as  they  always  say  ,  curiosity  kills  the  cat  .  

nimble  digits  run  across  the  cover  ,  eyes  tracing  as  he  contemplates  opening  it  .  he  would  have  been  livid  had  someone  opened  something  of  his  ,  even  if  he  didn’t  know  what  contents  lay  inside  ,  jinhyuk  made  a  wild  guess  .

going  against  an  already  skewed  judgement  ,  he  flips  to  a  random  page  ,  reading  through  it  before  flipping  to  the  next  .  gaining  information  that  he’d  learn  isn’t  his  to  gain  .  yet  ,  he  feels  something  in  the  words  ,  they  hit  him  hard  ,  way  too  close  to  home  .  jinhyuk’s  heart  is  beating  rapidly  in  his  chest  as  eyes  skim  through  ,  reading  broken  i  miss  you’s  &  wish  you  were  here’s  .  memories  burst  inside  his  head  of  a  small  boy  with  dark  brown  hair  running  at  him  with  a  smile  on  his  face  ,  squealing  his  name  .

there’s  pain  in  his  chest  &  it  hurts  .  blinking  rapidly  ,  he  shuts  the  book  ,  feeling  grime  crawling  up  his  skin  at  the  invasion  .  rarely  does  he  feel  his  actions  are  wrong  ,  this  time  is  different  .

flipping  to  the  front  cover  ,  his  eyes  land  on  two  names  .  one  he’s  sure  he  shouldn’t  know  &  the  other  ,  a  person  he  needs  to  get  ahold  of  .  whipping  out  his  phone  ,  jinhyuk  dials  up  the  number  on  the  page  ,  waiting  for  an  answer  &  when  he  gets  it  he  speaks  ,  “  sungjin  ?  hi,  ”  voice  rusty  as  it  comes  out  pleasantly  ,  it’s  an  odd  thing  to  hear  from  himself  ,  “  i---  i  have  your  uh  ,  i  have  your  journal  .  ”

          jinhyuk  ,  while  a  hothead  (  no  pun  intended  )  ,  didn’t  feel  the  need  to  spend  his  time  at  a  more  upbeat  part  of  the  academy  .  he  was  truly  fine  with  sitting  with  his  feet  kicked  up  on  a  table  ,  ignoring  the  scolds  he  got  from  passing  by  professors  as  gum  smacked  in  between  pearly  whites  .  it  was  actually  in  hindsight  ,  a  good  thing  that  he  didn’t  like  the  noise  .

          emotions  were  always  an  issue  with  the  boy  .  whether  he  felt  them  too  much  or  whether  he  felt  barely  any  at  all  .  more  people  around  meant  having  to  channel  through  ignoring  the  annoyance  most  would  cause  him  ,  thus  trying  to  tamp  down  the  anger  that  coursed  through  his  veins  &  attempted  to  bubble  to  the  surface  .  anger  was  an  emotion  he  felt  often  ,  but  the  one  he  was  the  most  afraid  of  .  what  happened  those  years  ago  rarely  ever  leaves  his  mind  for  more  than  a  second  .

          it’s  why  ,  while  his  feet  are  kicked  up  on  a  table  at  club  a  ,  that  he’s  thankful  jisoo  is  sitting  near  him  .

          he  would  never  admit  that  out  loud  though  ,  never  admit  his  cruel  heart  is  fond  of  her  ,  but  how  could  he  not  be  ?  there  was  an  unspoken  bond  between  them  hidden  by  cruelty  &  ruthlessness  that  neither  were  ready  to  let  go  of  .  “  say  tell  me  ,  ”  jinhyuk  begins  ,  blowing  a  piece  of  cobalt  hair  from  his  eyes  as  a  devilish  smirk  cuts  his  mouth  apart  ,  “  how  many  people  in  this  room  do  you  think  are  afraid  of  you  &  i  ?  ”

grew  up  in  a  pretty  shitty  home  .  

at  first  ,  things  were  okay  despite  his  father  being  a  military  man  and  the  strict  rules  set  upon  jinhyuk  .  

his  mother  was  a  sweet  woman  ,  a  mutant  just  like  he  was  .  she  cared  for  jinhyuk  more  than  she  had  ever  cared  for  her  own  life  .  

she  had  always  wanted  jinhyuk  to  know  how  to  use  his  abilities  ,  while  she  wasn’t  a  pyrokinetic  ,  she  taught  him  control  and  taught  him  to  not  be  afraid  of  using  his  powers  ,  that  they  were  a  gift  to  be  used  .

his  father  didn’t  want  him  to  use  his  powers  .  wanted  him  to  be  “  normal  ”  even  if  mutants  were  normal  .

things  weren’t  horrible  while  he  was  growing  ,  he  was  a  lively  kid  .  always  wanting  to  be  running  ,  to  be  moving  .  he  was  energetic  and  had  too  many  friends  ,  more  than  he  could  ever  count  on  his  fingers  .  he  was  sociable  and  sweet  .

then  his  baby  brother  was  born  when  he  was  eight  years  old  .  due  to  complications  ,  his  mother  passed  away  during  childbirth  and  that  was  when  hell  began  .

after  his  mother  passed  ,  the  whole  family  grieved  .  his  father  was  very  much  so  more  distant  than  ever  before  .  eight  year  old  jinhyuk  tried  to  pay  no  mind  to  it  .

it  wasn’t  until  he’d  found  piles  of  empty  alcohol  bottles  and  an  enraged  man  towering  over  him  ,  that  he  knew  nothing  would  be  the  same  .

his  job  was  to  take  care  of  his  brother  .  to  keep  him  out  of  harms  way  .

jinhyuk  took  the  brunt  of  the  abuse  ,  never  wanting  to  see  his  father  lay  a  hand  on  his  brother  .  even  though  he  did  .

his  father  blamed  them  .  mainly  his  baby  brother  .  made  their  lives  living  hell  .  told  them  he  wished  they  never  had  them  ,  wish  they’d  never  been  dirty  mutants  .

he’d  torture  them  .  as  stated  before  ,  jinhyuk  took  most  of  it  .  

the  sweet  and  loving  boy  that  fought  back  and  begged  and  cried  began  to  disappear  as  he  kept  himself  steeled  .

steeling  was  easier  ,  helped  him  block  it  out  mentally  .  helped  him  stop  the  flare  of  his  abilities  which  only  angered  his  father  more  .

his  father’s  favorite  form  of  torture  for  jinhyuk  was  waterboarding  him  and  as  a  pyrokinetic  ...  that  was  a  horrible  mix  .  

jinhyuk  as  he  grew  ,  hoped  that  he  could  get  him  and  his  brother  out  .  but  luck  wasn’t  on  his  side  .

at  the  small  age  of  six  ,  jinhyuk’s  brother  brought  his  own  power  on  himself  .  the  touch  of  death  killed  him  ...  suicide  .

that  tore  jinhyuk  in  half  .  his  dormant  abilities  erupted  ,  sending  his  home  into  flames  ,  incinerating  his  father  and  really  ,  he  couldn’t  have  cared  less  .

it’s  where  the  faint  burns  and  scars  come  from  across  his  torso  and  arms  because  what  he  erupted  in  was  blue  flame  and  blue  flame  injures  him  unlike  red  to  yellow  flame  .

after  that  ,  he  fled  .  lived  on  the  streets  ,  tried  to  survive  day  by  day  .  only  hardening  more  and  more  after  the  things  he’d  seen  .

he  didn’t  want  to  be  the  old  him  .  didn’t  want  to  be  weak  .  so  he  killed  that  part  of  himself  ,  put  her  away  ,  locked  her  up  .

age  fifteen  ,  he  was  invited  to  the  academy  ,  they  saw  great  potential  in  him  despite  his  unpredictable  abilities  he  doesn’t  use  often  enough  .

been  here  since  then  ,  working  with  his  abilities  again  ,  trying  to  contain  them  .  definitely  struggles  .

apart  of  the  sick  six  because  he’s  literally  a  horrible  person  ,  at  least  he  portrays  himself  that  way  .

personality .

he’s  not  nice  .  that’s  just  that  .  he’s  rude  and  cruel  and  wants  to  inflict  harm  onto  others  .  he’s  not  apart  of  the  sick  six  for  nothing  !

keeps  his  walls  up  .  doesn’t  let  anyone  past  them  .  doesn’t  want  anyone  past  them  .  is  too  scared  to  let  anyone  see  the  kind-hearted  ,  loving  boy  he  once  was  .

thinks  kindness  makes  you  weak  .  thinks  love  makes  you  weak  .  he’s  got  nothing  to  love  any  longer  ,  hasn’t  for  years  ,  so  there’s  no  point  in  trying  any  more  .

quite  the  pessimist  .

likes  to  mess  with  people  a  lot  .  pulls  little  pranks  ,  sets  shit  on  fire  ,  just  pokes  fun  at  others  .

ruthless  .  has  some  anger  issues  he  needs  to  sort  out  because  emotions  affect  his  abilities  .

oddly  ,  he’s  very  relaxed  ?  like  kick  your  feet  up  on  the  table  ,  blunt  words  ,  absolutely  unbothered  when  you  try  to  get  his  attention  because  he  will  just  ignore  you  if  he  doesn’t  care  .  most  of  the  time  he  doesn’t  .

when  he  likes  you  ,  he  can  be  very  protective  .

deep  down  ,  he  really  does  have  a  good  heart  .  he’s  just  so  hardened  and  scared  that  he’d  rather  be  evil  than  be  good  .

can  be  very  charming  ,  a  bit  of  a  flirt  ,  likes  to  smirk  a  lot  ,  wink  a  lot  .

idk  ,  started  writing  this  last  night  and  now  my  brain  isn’t  producing  words  ...  he’s  just  a  dick  with  daddy  issues  and  abandonment  and  intimacy  issues  ,  classic  !

wanted plots .

someone  make  him  feel  something  please  ...  i’m  literally  begging  .  give  him  someone  to  dote  on  like  he  would  have  his  little  brother  ...  give  him  someone  to  love  ,  to  live  for  .

an  ex  ,  either  he  ruined  the  relationship  because  he’s  just  horrible  or  they  did  or  it  was  just  mutual  .  maybe  they  did  really  love  each  other  ,  just  circumstances  changed  ,  can  be  toxic  ,  can  be  longing  ,  can  be  absolutely  whatever.

anything  that  gets  this  boy  away  from  his  emotions  that’s  a  wonderful  trait  of  his  !  uses  hookups  and  flings  to  get  them  out  ,  since  he’s  so  desperate  to  hold  back  them  back  .

perhaps  an  older  sibling  figure  !  someone  who  keeps  him  in  line  and  supports  him  like  no  one  has  since  his  mother’s  passing  .

a  rival  ,  an  enemy  ,  people  who  he  can’t  fucking  stand  and  would  literally  like  to  obliterate  from  this  planet  .

someone  who’s  close  enough  to  him  to  know  everything  ,  a  best  friend  ,  someone  he  trusts  and  cares  for  despite  sometimes  not  showing  it  .
