Here’s some shots of the girls R2D2 and C3PO costumes from Halloween. Since I’m cooking baby 3 I don’t have it in me to do a full run down of construction but here’s some notes: - Her R2D2 plush with sound fell into the toilet - I harvested the insides from potty R2 before trashing it and used the sound thingy so this R2 could “talk” with a button she pressed inside (I also replaced r2 with a fresh one and said he'd been undergoing repairs following the fight against the Death Star) - r2 is cardboard, poster board, paper towel tube, tape, felt, glue, the plastic lens off a large googly eye, foam (legs). You can find some very detailed instructions for more serious builds and I just applied a lot of those approaches with my materials since I was going for more of a “toy” effect. ( I even used a couple lids off those baby food squeeze pouches for some of the recessed detail on the lower portion of R2) oh and LEDs. Actually those “wires” connecting R2 legs to body were the antennae for the cockroach costume last year😄 - I used “cosplay fabric” for C3PO which had stretch and is easier to work with than lamé. This costume was challenging for me because I'm not a "costumer" - the R2 and Wall-E were more sculptural builds. I was able to use the Super hero costume from a few years ago as a bit of a template. - That plus felt and foam for the details, and yarn from a friend’s scrap yarn collection over a black onesie and pants. - as I predicted: she wanted nothing to do with a hat but loved her little C3PO headband with the seam detail. She wore the little mask but mostly kept the front part pushed up onto her forehead. :)
