I think that dungeon crawling is to TTRPGs what shooters are to video games. It's a structure that has been around since almost the beginning of the medium, that persists because it fundamentally works, and it fits well with the affordances and limitations of the medium. And like shooters, its ubiquity leads to a certain amount of backlash, some of it warranted, and a lot of it less so.
Looking at it from that perspective, people who denigrate dungeons as not being real roleplaying or storytelling feel a lot like the gaming nerds of the mid 2000s, sneering at bros who play Gears of War and Halo, and insisting that they play real games.
Except that those nerds were, at least somewhat, responding to the state of the video games industry as it actually existed. And, notably, they were actually playing the non-shooter games that existed.
By contrast, the dungeons-aren't-roleplay 5e players feel like if those gamer nerds were on their "all shooters are brainless pablum" bullshit now, in a world where some of the most praised narrative games of all time are shooters, and where shooter mechanics have been used to make wildly inventive puzzle games, horror games, speedrunning games, roleplaying games, etc.
And instead of playing any of those amazing shooter games, or even any of the fantastic non-shooter games, they were insisting that real gamers who care about narrative make Halo machinima.
this fetish stuff is getting out of hand what the fuck is word play
god i cant find the resource i got it from but there was some trainer i respect, i cant remember if it was patricia mcconnel or laura vanarendonk baugh, that theyd pick an poorly socilized puppy from parents with good sound temperament over a socialized puppy with really poor temperament genetics any time.
it was denise fenzi, thank you @cynikoii
Does anyone remember that graph that was circulating dogblr in like, 2015 or 2016? It was illustrating how genes give you the range of behaviors/stability the dog is capable of, and environment determines where in the range the dog can end up.
That was the post that really drove home to me the intersection of genes and environment.
An autistic man with a special interest in the Harry Potter series has made the decision to value the lives and dignity of his trans friends more than a book about a wizard who grows up to be a cop, leaving you with no excuse whatsoever to keep wearing that Hufflepuff scarf, sources have reported.
Jack Harrington, 38, grew up reading the popular childrenâs stories, and soon developed an intense fascination with the world of the books, including knowing all about the suspiciously depicted money-hungry goblins, and that one time it was revealed that slavery is commonplace and accepted in the wizarding world.
In spite of this, however, Harrington has recently worked to redirect his interest towards media created by someone less troublingly focused on his friendsâ genitalia.
âIt was hard to do,â Harrington said. âI really love collecting things, and thereâs so much merchandise to collect! But once I realised that itâs possible to collect things in a way that doesnât make it harder for my mates to go for a piss when out and about, it really was a no-brainer.â
At the time of publication, Harrington was marvelling at the sheer amount of fiction available in the world that doesnât actively contribute to material harm, and questioning whether you specifically really need that copy of Hogwarts Legacy for your PS5.
A cis women's right to comfort should not be more valued then a trans man's right to medical care.
A cis women's right to comfort should not be more valued then a trans man's right for safe housing.
A cis women's right to comfort should not be more valued then a trans man's acsess to SA recovery recourses.
A queer person's right to comfort should not be more valued then a trans man's right to take space in their community.
A queer person's right to comfort should not be more valued that a trans man's acsess to queer recourses.
A queer persons right to comfort should not be move valued than a trans man's right to hrt, srs, or medical transition.
I do not care if cis women and some other queer people are uncomfortable with "passing" trans men being at the gynecologist, at the planned parenthood, at the homeless shelter, at the SA survivor meeting, at the trans pride event, at the queer resource center, or with us just existing. Trans men's right to exist and to be treated like human beings should not be disrespected or disregarded becouse some of you think testosterone or facial hair or butchness or masculinity or phalloplasty somehow gives you cooties.
Wait, the fuck do you mean homeless shelters are seperated based on the sex of the person?
Unfortunately homeless shelters are separated into "Women's and Children's" shelters and "Men's" shelters.
Some women's shelters are "trans inclusive" or will refer to themselves as "women and nonbinary shelter's" - but often people who do not pass as "correctly feminine" are denied access to them (this includes non passing trans women, butch women, trans men, and many nonbinary and intersex people).
Men's shelters are typically not trans inclusive, are less avaliable, often privately funded by evangelical churches that require the men to attend their services, have less beds, and significantly less privacy and are not safe for transgender people (including "passing" trans men.)
More conservative women's shelter will also just flat out refuse transgender women even if they are passing and fem presenting, due to their presumed sex assigned at birth. Those shelters also do not typically accept transgender men unless we shave, detransiton, and dress fem (and even then we might still be too masculine to be considered safe!)
As a result, trans and GNC people, especially trans and GNC that present butch or masculine or don't fit the mold of white cis femininity, are denied acsess to shelters in order to ensure that cis women are not made uncomfortable by our presence. And usually it's the cis women who are volunteering or staffing the shelter that are the problem (not the homeless women that actually sleep in the shelter).
Oh also you do have to read real books. Like you have to read the books. You canât just read fanfic, those are not books. You can if you just want to write fanfic, but if you want to write books, you kinda gotta read books. No, posts do not count.
is it weird if i say i genuinely wish there was more positivity aimed at people w large chests
"having a large chest is the beauty standard" no having a large chest is the Sexual standard theres a difference. i can only even be Hot and everything i ever wear will be deemed too sexual for every single situation. tank top shows too much cleavege or side boob a button up is always too busty and a crop top will always show too much skin. having a large chest leads to so much back pain and sexualization and complaining about it makes people go "ahh grass is alwahs greener/you are the beauty standard, why complain?" like genuinely i urge yall to watch anything with a larger chested woman and notice, REALLY notice, that her chest is her entire personality. notice that people critiqing misogynist charavter designs alwayd tend to rally in the statement that large chest=misogny, casting aside the Many Many Many women and people who look like Me and just . have a large chest? and exist? and deserve respect and not to be seen as nothing more than a sex symbol by both sides? idk ikdayy
âmom codedâ âsister codedâ âwine aunt codedâ what if sheâs his friend instead. youâre actually allowed to be friends with women
when i was a kid i was so mad all the time bc i thought someday i'd have to be somebody's wife i didn't know it was optional. is everybody reminding the young girls in their lives that it's optional.
AND SO IS BEING SOMEBODY'S MOTHERâŒïž
it is about being a woman. hope that helps!
reading comprehension questions for the notes:
is wanting to be a wife and mother a requirement for being a woman?
why might OP be annoyed with replies assuming that this post is about being aroace or transmasc if a woman doesnât want to be a wife or mother?
are there reasons unrelated to sexuality and romantic interest that might make a woman not want to be a wife or mother?
are there reasons unrelated to gender identity and expression that might make a woman not want to be a wife and mother?
core concept: what is gender essentialism?
is it gender essentialism to imply that all women inherently want to be wives and mothers? could this be what OP is critiquing?
look at the notes OP responds to. is it gender essentialism to imply that being a wife and mother is so affixed to womanhood that to not want to be those things means youâre incapable of sexual/romantic feelings, or not a woman?
what trait are you perpetuating when you assume that women who do not want to be wives and mothers must be aroace or trans? is it gender essentialism?

Victor Frankenstein after achieving the impossible and building a fucking person from scraps of the dead: Oh god, ew, ew it's ugly! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew! Ew! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew!
I see so many people saying shit like "the way fandoms behave makes me really nervous to write the story I want to write, what if my fandom sucks" and I just want to sit down with all of them and be like it's ok, you don't have to worry, you're not going to be famous
not to gatekeep or anything but if the idea of protagonists heroically killing faceless bad guys without having any moral qualms or self-reflection makes you uncomfortable then Why Are You Playing Dungeons And Dragons
