an asymmetrical smile popped up on helen’s face as she watched voyd. she had met admirers before, but voyd was different. different in the way that it made helen feel, PROUD of what she was able to accomplish. of course her main goal was keeping civilians safe, but she’d be lying to herself if she didn’t want to also prove a point that women can do just as much as men can. and seeing voyd, well, she felt good about what she was able to do, that she at least inspired ONE person out there to be their best self.
❝ i KNOW you will. ❞ helen reassured the young super. ❝ listen, don’t get too caught up with the new superfriends. not at least until i’ve gone out on an actual mission with you. ❞
Wait wait wait wait --- did she just say that she --- THAT ELASTIGIRL? --- wanted to go on a mission with her? That Elastigirl wanted to do a mission with ------- oh gosh. OH GOSH. “Even after I slammed you into a jet five times?” The words are out before she can stop them and she is IMMEDIATELY struck with the urge to pull up a portal and disappear into it.
“I mean! Uh! Thank you so much! I --- I can’t wait!” There’s a quiet, self - deprecating laughing winding through the syllables. “When I was younger, I’d watch --- I’d watch documentaries about you, and imagine being, uh --- your sidekick, or something.” It had seemed like if she was, then she’d finally belong somewhere.
