People get jumpscared by house centipedes because they have like one of the fastest land speeds relative to body size among insects, or a lot of mammals, moving about 16 inches (40.6cm) a second, that's why they sometimes seem to appear out of nowhere. Like if you have a ten foot ceiling, a house centipede can go from the floor behind a bookshelf to the ceiling in the time it takes to catch up on your tumblr feed. And they're pretty harmless but also they are wildly overconfident in their ability to hold onto a ceiling.
The tags are sending me
If you aren't allergic, house centipede venom is about on par with something like a yellow jacket or garden spider, somewhat painful but zero medical significance. You'll get swelling and that's about it.
But! That's if their stingers can even get through your skin. Very few house centipedes' stingers develop the size and sharpness to get through your skin - if one even wants get close enough to sting. The average human is basically Godzilla to a house centipede, they don't see us as something they can survive, so they would much rather run away or try to be hidden. But they also have kinda dogshit eyesight so we probably look like part of the landscape until we move.
And of course the old addage - venom is expensive. They don't want to waste the calorie cost of making venom on stinging something where the sting won't help survival and won't feed them. They're startling when they appear but they are well and truly harmless. Or if you live in a city and have pest insects, pretty beneficial.
You see them in the shower and bathroom so much because damp environments help them breathe. They have open spiracles to take in air, just holes along the surface of their bodies (you can see them in close ups sometimes). They're a very primitive design by most standards, and if they're somewhere too dry, they can't get air, and might even just dry up and die. Since your bathroom is the wettest, most humid place in the house, if you have them around that's where they'll go to relax and recharge before another night of hunting down every last cockroach in your apartment.
There are some much larger centipedes that can be more dangerous to get bit by, but not the humble house centipede. He's just a little freak tryin to get by, it's not his fault he's clumsy and looks like a facehugger for a barbie doll.
Hey can you guys reblog Cheeseburger so he can take a sunbeam nap on lots of blogs. No other reason I just want you guys to see him.
So, Cheeseburger died on November 21st after an unfairly short battle with an unfairly rare cancer that is rarely seen in cats. I only got to spend a month with him after his diagnosis, and losing him has been the greatest heartbreak of my entire life so far. He was my best friend and my soul cat, and he was there for me when I was completely alone, for twelve long years.
I made this transparent PNG the night he died in preparation for one of the many ways I was going to memorialize him--a surface rug in his likeness that I planned on laying directly in the line of his favourite sunbeam. And I uploaded that PNG here, because this is the website where people post their cats.
I was not expecting the reception I got. Many people have pointed out that this post has more reblogs than likes, and how insane that is in 2025 when reblog culture is at an all time low. I didn't even talk about the fact that Burger passed away in the original post, it wasn't a tearjerker reblog bait or anything like that. People just loved Burger that much, in the same way I fell in love with him at first sight. He was such an ugly kitten.
Anyways, it's really special to me that so many people have reblogged my best friend. I made this PNG to memorialize him in a completely different way, and you all wound up doing just that in ways I never even imagined.
Thank you. Wherever he is, I know the sun is shining.

The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because theyâre hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?
I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
And often, they are assholes, too.
unfortunately, dicks are not very sensitive to different textures. It would not be that interesting.
I would be built be different
also I'd be fucking a pile of sweet and sour chicken or whatever and I guarantee that's gonna feel like something
To be fair, I swear I remember reading somewhere that balls do have some level of taste receptors in them, so as long as you are planning on getting balls deep into the sweet and sour chicken you actually would feel something! You'd get a tasty snack!
hi turning the goof off for a second to go into sex ed mode and say that taste receptors are different from functioning taste buds and testicles cannot in fact taste anything

The recent hot VS cold polls have made me realise that a lot of people have no idea how to cool down.
As someone from a hot country that's regularly on fire, here's some tips:
WATER IS YOUR FRIEND! WATER! IS! YOUR! FRIEND! You can transfer SO much heat into this bad boy! You cannot cool down without water!
Wrists under the cold tap. Splash your face and the back of your neck. Fan yourself.
In some countries you can buy a little handeld fan with a water sprayer.
Damp tea towel around the neck. Stick an ice pack in there on hotter days.
Half fill a water bottle with water, stick in freezer. If you use a bottle with a straw, make sure it's lying on its side with the straw side up and out of the water. When frozen top up the rest of the way with tap water and off you go.
Desperate to cool off? Wet T-shirt. Sit in front of a fan. This will nuke it, just don't get hypothermia and don't fall asleep like this.
Cold showers are also your friend in summer. Some people get psyched up by these. Personally, I sleep like a baby, so I'm good to have them before bed. Just keep in mind that it takes a bit of time for the cool to circulate, so your body will tell you that you're colder than you actually are. I find that when I have cold showers I need to step out of the spray when I think I'm cold... I'll just wait, and thirty seconds later the temperature has evened out and I actually need to step under again. Rinse and repeat until you maintain coolness even after stepping out for a bit.
If you can't do cold showers, turn the cold shower on anyway and just stick your arms under. When they're cold, lift your arms up above your head. The sensation of cool blood draining into your body is fucking weird and kinda unpleasant but less unpleasant than being hot.
Feet in a tub of water with ice. Blood naturally flows to your extremities when hot, so take advantage of this. If you don't have a tub of ice water, sticking a wet rag on your feet in front of the fan works too, it's the less powerful version of the wet T-shirt.
Drinks lots of water but make sure that water has electrolytes as well. Stay in the shade.
Keep air circulating. Fans don't actually cool rooms down, they just help transfer heat from your body to the moisture on your skin or the air via evaporative cooling.
Block north facing windows early in the morning so the sun doesn't get in. If you're in the northern hemisphere, this is opposite for you. Keep in mind that if your home is brick, the bricks will still heat up and slowly release heat into your home even after the sun goes down so this will only do so much.
If it's hotter inside than outside, close all your windows but two, making sure they're on opposite sides of the house/unit you're in. Point a fan out of one window, making sure that the doors between the rooms with the open windows are all open. This will help create a mini pressure system in your home, pulling cooler air in and pushing the hotter air out via the fan. Bonus points if you can get that fan high up where the hot air rises; even within a single room the top is much hotter than the air by the floor. Adjust the amount of open windows based on how many fans you have, but generally you want more windows with fans open than windows without fans to keep the pressure correct.
Obviously, use your common sense for these. Not everything WILL work for you, just use the stuff that does and adjust what needs to be adjusted. Some of these will be impossible to use in the workplace but others you can still use. Others are best used at home. If humidity impacts your ability to use any of these, get a dehumidifier if that's an option, or use more ice instead of evaporation.
Also keep in mind that the skinnier you are, the faster these will work. More fat means more insulation, means more heat, so you may need to be more patient with some of these or use them in combination.
Bringing this back for my dying mutuals
Get long hair off your neck.
ice tucked in a hair bun = great cooling.
Or soak a baseball cap or other cloth hat that wonât be damaged by water.
Water needs energy to evaporate. As it dries, it consumes a little heat in its immediate vicinity.
Therefore any significant amount of water â buckets, wet towels, damp laundryâ in a small room can cool it a degree or two, although this doesnât work as well if the air is already humid.
This principle has been used since ancient times, from wet blankets hung over doors in ancient Egypt to the âswamp coolersâ of the southern U.S. before modern AC, to modern âevaporative coolers.â And, of course, itâs the function of sweat.
Dedicated to my cat, who is very vocal about my bed time.
PATREON
Party Pooper by Matty Newton
My husbandâs job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like âhuh guess I am a dad/older brother now.â
She was in a car crash on the way to work one morning and called my husband to let him know sheâd be late and he was like wtf guess Iâm gonna be late too because Iâm coming to pick you up and then he told his team and they were like I think you mean WE are coming.
Imagine you are a teenage girl probably rushing to get to work and you crash your probably new car and feel absolutely miserable and now youâll be late to work but then suddenly in the distance a car full of all the adult men you work with just pulls up and is like âwe came all the way here to pick you upâ the mental image right now is fr.
Apparently she tried to call her dad but it was 3am and he was obviously sleeping so she called my husband and he not only came to find her but fished her glasses out of the hood of the car (sheâd dropped them while looking inside), drove her to the hospital, and told her to take the day off. She insisted on coming back to work so he used his lunch break to watch TV with her to make sure she didnât doze off (concussion risk).
Youâve heard of the Mom friend but my husband is very much the Dad friend. He said when he answered the phone she said âhey please donât be madâ and heâs never felt such powerful Fatherhood energy in his life.
