hollow man.
avtjjk:
his eyebrows furrow and pinch, head cocking to the hide slowly as he studies the male. confusion settles over his features, because jeongguk had been so, so sure. but the day is long, his nerves thin and composure only falling– so instead he nods slowly, choosing not to argue much on the subject with a tired sigh. “right.” jeongguk hums, eyes drooping as his shoulders sag. “right– around the corner. sure, yeah. okay. you’re not gonna kill me, right? you almost gave me a fright enough to do so.” it’s teasing, a joke– but it doesn’t hit jeongguk’s eyes right. in fact, the attempt at smiling makes him look all the more tired.
of course he didn’t order it. practical jokes are common these days for youth, and had jeongguk not been forced to grow up at a young age, he’s sure he’d be doing the same thing; toying around with lives that aren’t your own.
“ah.” the boy nods, slowly. a dry chuckle leaves his lips as he sighs, body drooping with fatigue, exhaustion– this day royally sucks. “you didn’t. that’s fine, i guess. i’ll just…pay for it.” s’not like he’d have a choice; his employers would take it out of his paycheck if jeongguk couldn’t showcase the money.
“don’t mention it.” he mumbles. “i understand. sorry to bother you with this– but go ahead, enjoy it. it’d be a waste to take it back now. i wish those kids understand what they’re doing. missing out on good take out.” he rubs at his eye, feeling it water underneath his touch. “it’s fine, not your fault.”
his hand hovers in the air awkwardly as he blinks, tilting his head at the other male as he exhales softly. slowly, he shakes his head. “um. no, not urgently. and i– no, not today.” it’s not that uncommon for jeongguk to go longer than eating than normal. that’s just the life he lives and leads at this point. he glances down at the food, teeth pressing into his lower lip. “…i can vouch the food is good.” he smiles, a crooked sort that tilts up at the edge of his mouth. “are we sharin’ the wealth, then?”
Dowoon was sure at this point that this kid didn’t believe him about just being around the corner, but at least he wasn’t arguing about it. Because when people really started to question if he had been there the whole time his lies started to fall through. “Why would I kill you?” He did have to wonder with a slight frown on his face, “I don’t see how that would be very productive.” He had no intentions of murdering anyone, especially not just some delivery boy who seemed to have been pranked by delivering food to a random place. And of he did want to murder someone, he would probably not be standing there completely visible.
He did feel bad about not having any money on him that he could use to pay for the food. The kid didn’t deserve to pay for it just because it was a prank delivery. But he couldn’t afford a meal like this, all he had in his pocket was an old tissue, and he didn’t really think that would cover things.
“I’m sorry, kid. If I had some money on me I’d pay for it,” he did have to put out there, just feeling rather terrible about the situation. Sometime being homeless and poor was a pain in the neck and it was in situations like this that he sometimes wished that he had a normal life and a house and a job and money. But no, he’d long since given up with that idea and was probably going to be homeless and poor until the day he died.
Frowning just a little, Dowoon shook his head, “You’re really not bothering me. If you hadn’t shown up, my meal would just consist of a pot of instant ramen.”
But at least the kid didn’t need to be anywhere urgently, and he hadn’t eaten yet, which was good because this plan might have fallen through if he already had a full stomach. “Well, you brought it all the way here for no reason, so you might as well get to share in the spoils,” he offered with a smile, nodding towards one of the chairs, “Grab a seat.” Dowoon wouldn’t mind the company, he normally just ate alone in the silence of the hotel room, so this would be a rather nice change.
