At this point, marinette losing her memories and a dramatic "the title actually refers to Alya and Adrien" reveal (as originally speculated from, i think, timetagger) might be the only way to save the franchise.

It wont salvage marinette, mind you. She is unfixable,

Remember a while ago i said that Lila is a renapace antagonist, not a marinette villain?

I think the writers might genuinely know that.

Futurebug being deliberately ambiguous but talking like alya (not my theory, would credit op if i remembered who) on its own was weird.

But the way this season keeps bringing up Alya's family, sometimes in very forced ways (forced Nora's ex line, forced optische in grendiaper, forced halfsibling line, not one but two of the final episodes being her siblings if dirtifiers hold true), that is suspect.

But Nora getting the Luka treatment? That is the undeniable proof to me. There us no reason to put anyone into another country besides setting up a special by creating a connection at this point. And neither Nora or Shanghai make any sense if marinette remains protagonist, mari has no link to Nora, and preexistant connections to shanghai.

But if Alya gets protagged? Suddenly that makes sense.

Meanwhile Adrien getting amnesia powers makes a lot more sense if we're about to frame him for mari's post-guardian ammesia so he can Whump her after she once more flees accountability and concequence.

It also makes sense that Marinette wants to make Alya the new guardian and Ladybug if things go wrong and/or if she gets her memories erased.

But like I genuinely don't want her to get her memories erased just because it would then be impossible for the rest of the cast to get mad at her for stuff she genuinely doesn't remember to do and would just be treated as a victim from now on. Like that would be cowardly.

Not to mention it would probably make her forget all about Adrien (since she met him after getting her earrings) and him being a sentimonster and all the gashlighting and manipulation and lying she did in his name, I just don't like the idea of her getting kind of absolved of it all just because her memories would be permanently erased.

It wouldn't solve her problems or anyone elses, it would just be running away permanently from it all, and honestly it would be a terrible look on her to get that.

I am not so sure how she would be backed up in a corner so hard like Fu was in Miracle Queen that she would need to do that, I would see her using her naming Alya as her succesor as her running away from everything she stood for and protected and fought for.

It just wouldn't be a good message no matter how hard you look at it.

Adrien deserves better than not getting any closure from her removing her memories of their time together, after he got denied his closure with his dad, his own closure with his own girlfriend would really be even more of an insult to his entire character.
