If you’re here, its probably because of fanfic which is exactly why I created this blog. This is where I accept loving notions of admiration or hate mail threating to have me drawn and quartered (which I also consider to be loving notions of admiration). I’ll try to keep things updated on a fairly biweekly basis, however that might change to sooner or later. I’m fairly confident I can update weekly, but life, ah, finds a way to be a pain in my ass. idk if this is a young fan thing or new fandom culture but some of yall think fics are abandoned way too quickly. a few months or a year or two is not unusual to go without a fic update. sometimes fics take longer to write, other times writers have rl events, or maybe there's multiple fics and one gets more priority. there are tons of reasons for fics not to be updated every week or every month. it also isn't uncommon for people to come back and update fics after a number of years—ive read updates that took five, or ten years. people's lives change, but they still want to tell their stories. personally, i never consider a fic abandoned unless the author has said so; though if it's been a few years i manage my expectations. but a last update being a year ago is... generally not a sign that a writer has abandoned their fic

Original fic usually goes through this same process before being commercially published. Readers just don't know that bc they aren't receiving it in bite-size chunks online. Large periods of stagnant writing are historically just another Monday for most writers.

Greetings my children!

Just a quick little update for yall. Yes, I’m still writing. No, I have not abandoned my fics. Life just lifed REAL fuckin hard and the past two years have been a roller coaster that has not let me off until recently (sorta). There is an update coming! And it will be chonky!! Like my fat, voluptuous ass!!

Also, regarding my previous posts about AI used in my fics to betta read and polish: I no longer will be doing that. The newer advances in AI scare the shit out of me and have become so predatory and dangerous that it’s put me off it entirely even when it is mildly helpful. Sorry grammarly, you’re dead to me now.

But that’s pretty much all I have for you for now. I did see someone comment on TWCIW asking for an update after two years and it absolutely inflicted psychic damage from the fact that it’s been two goddamned years since I’ve updated (sorry, lovelies) so that’s gotta change asap. To everyone who’s stuck around: thank you so so much for reading. I make my stories for myself, but you all are a very close second and I’m beyond grateful to everyone who has taken the time to leave a comment, kudos, or bookmark. I see you. I appreciate you.

Anyway, greetings from the abyss I missed all of you. Brief update on the fic: no, I'm not abandoning shit. Yes, I'm still writing. Yes, I plan on finishing it no matter what and your next update will be two chapters and at least 16k words long I wanna say. Literally cannot emphasize enough that my #1 writing advice is to stop being afraid. Stop being afraid of sounding too cringe, or too stupid, or too horrifying, or too horny, or too weird, or too much, or too little, or too you. You need to put your entire pussy into your art. Sure, it won't be to everyone's tastes, but if you keep yourself to the blandest tamest safest roads possible you will be of no one's tastes, not even yours.

He swirled the brandy in his glass with a heavy sigh; his daughter’s words echoing in his mind. It should have been you. Lips curled up in a snarl, more angry with himself than the rest of the world, he tosses back the last of the dregs and reaches to pour another. It’s been almost a month since Marianne sailed away with Roland. Almost a month since he ignored each and every sign of trepidation in her eyes. The same girl who bounced on his knee in fits of contagious giggles was now left to the mercy of the tides. He supposed there were worse ways to go. But not many. The burn in his throat did little to soothe the one in his heart and dragging a calloused palm across his face blinked away the threat of tears as if he could will it. Marianne. The day she was born he swore the clouds parted the sky just for her. It was midfall and the Gods did not favor Summerland that season. Howling winds and thunderous hail sent everyone cowering, praying for a break in the turmoil as little Marianne’s wails were ready to mingle with her people’s. She never got the chance. Eerily, the rains stopped along with her arrival almost miraculously and her parents convinced each other she was their own tiny miracle. Her mother looked out her infirmary window at the sun peaking through the clouds; light glinting off the still churning waves, and tearfully thanked the realms. Marianne, they called her right then. Star of the sea. Wriggling and caked in viscera, even as a newborn she damn near fought anyone that dared to touch her. Shrill cries and writhing limbs, however small, fought their fight well and good to the coos that surrounded her. Dagda bowed to kiss his wife’s sweat matted forehead while his arms dwarfed both of his girls and he believed for the first time in his life that helped to put something good into the world. Now, he wasn’t so sure. “It should have been you,” his broken words echoed into the glass as it tipped back once more. “It should have been you.”

someone I follow on the bird app just announced they're starting a very exclusive private fic server because they and a bunch of other people want to talk about how much they love the fics they're reading, and as an author can I just say that a really great place to talk about a fic you love is in the comments for that fic

I understand that people are trying to create safe spaces, but as the number of comments that I get on my fics dwindles with each passing year, knowing these spaces exist where my fics are being discussed, places that I am excluded from, makes me want to write fic LESS

I mean I guess who cares, right, because if I stop writing, there's 10,000 other people that will continue...but if you participate in a fic "book club" server and you say nice things there about a fic you loved, maybe copy and paste that into a comment on AO3?

the only thing fanfic writers are asking for in return for hours of hard work is attention. please don't rob us of the one thing that we hope for when we hit "post"
