Do you know how hard it is trying to figure out if you need to go to the hospital when you have a chronic illness?
Severe nausea and abdominal pain? Eh… Kidney pain for a week? Probably fine. Chest pain? Who knows? Spike in bp? Really… wtf knows?
If you ever call a chronically ill person lazy, unmotivated, flaky, or use any negative terms like that in general to describe them…I will make it my life’s mission to find you and smack you across the head.
Don’t pass judgment on someone who is actually in all likelihood the strongest person you know and literally doing everything they can to live a somewhat normal life. It’s not your place. Try being supportive.
This… So many people need to see this post right now
Hi everyone! I DESPERATELY need some spoonie travel advice from you all. . So I have pots, eds, Fibro, ibs and other little things, and my mum and I are booking a trip to England to visit her family in September. . I live in NZ, and the longest flight I've been on is 3 hours, to Australia. To England it's roughly 30 hours. . . Firstly, what things do you recommend for flying? Anything to take, any way to relieve nausea, jetlag, Pots symptoms etc. . . Secondly, we have an option to either fly via Singapore or Qatar. . Singapore would make the trip 12 hrs then 12 hrs, with a possible night sleeping in the airport. . Or Qatar would be 18hrs then 6hrs, with wither a 5 hour stop, or overnight. . . I would love to see the culture in Qatar, but my mum is worried about the 18hr flight. . Whereas, I think having one long flight then a good nap would make me more refreshed when I take the shorter second flight, and means I probably will be able to be concious when I arrive in london 😂 . . Which way would you recommend? . I've never travelled like this before, and I wasn't diagnosed woth everything the last time I want to Australia (just ibs). . . ANY advice you can give would be appreciated sooooo much!!!!!!! Xoxoxo
I think what non-spoonies tend to forget is that chronically ill people do not just get ill more often than other people, but are ill all the time. When we miss school or cancel appointments, it is not because we ‘felt a bit peaky again’ and decided to not go - we feel bad most of the time, but still do things anyway. A lot of us feel ill, in pain etc. all the time, and we cancel plans/take time off when we physically or emotionally cannot cope with the day or the things required of us. Our ‘good’ or ‘okay’ is a healthy person’s ‘awful’. We are consistently making more effort than ‘normal people’ in order to live and make a living, and we often make that effort at the expense of our health. And it is so hurtful and offensive when people we know/ friends/ family/ teachers etc. get frustrated and annoyed because they think we are not trying hard enough. We are always trying. We are always fighting. Sometimes it’s too much.
This can’t be said enough.
Wow. Just. Wow. I can't say much without giving things away, but I 1000% recommend this duology. . . You may end up thinking more like a thief, mistrusting everyone and possibly craving biscuits, but you will not be disappointed. . . Thought I would do something a little different and put together a playlist for this book. . https://open.spotify.com/user/joanna360/playlist/0HODvG6 . . IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK OR DON'T WANT possible SPOILERS, DO NOT READ AHEAD. 😚 . . . . 1)Breath of life- Nina and Parem. . 2)Perfect World- kodaline. Kaz and Jordie. Memories and misfortune. . 3)Retrograde- James Blake. Inej captured. . 4)Everybody wants to rule the world - Lorde. New leader of the Dregs. . 5)Play the game - kodaline. Doctor: oh my gosh let's get you to hospital!
Me: oh and I have ibs
Doctor: oh that's normal. Yeah just live with it. Its fine.
Me: 😑
Both my oldest book, and the oldest book I own. Since I had to sell all my old books that got dusty, this little fella is the oldest one I have, from my first year of uni. Also the oldest... because... you know.. written c.800 b.c.e. ... kinds old. . . Also showing off my Skyrim obsession and the amazing talent of my brother with my Whiterun shield. And some of my arrows. Long story, but I used to be an adventurer like you... until I took an arrow to the knee... . . #sammyreadsjanuary17 stand alone books . #feministjanuary17 yellow ombre. Don't have enough yellow for an ombre 😂 so... kinda failed... . #historicalteatime oldest book (so late on this 😂) . #hootlootpairing house pride? Well... how about Hold pride? Whiterun represeeeeent! 🐎 but also will do Ravenclaw layer 😙 . #bookstagram #books #theodyssey #homersodyssey #whiterun #bookandshield #shield #bibliophile #booklover #bookphoto #oldestbook #epicpoetry #classicalstudies #classicsnerd #odysseusisawesome #readit #reading

Imagine how much historical knowledge wasn’t written down because our ancestors thought: “What idiot isn’t going to know this?”
So ancient Egypt’s best friend basically was called Punt. They traded all kinds of fun stuff with them; ebony, incense, gold, silver, myrrh, leopard skins, baboons for pets… and the Egyptians wrote a lot about the land, the people living there, what their houses looked like, records of trading expeditions to there (like, robust, oceangoing ships with thousands of men); they wrote down everything imaginable about this place… except for where it actually was.
We still to this day have no geographic fix on this ancient empire’s whereabouts, because what idiot wouldn’t know, right?
Until the 1850s British condiment sets came with bottles for oil and vinegar, and three spice containers for salt, pepper and…nobody knows. Potentially mustard, but it’s just a guess because no one ever wrote it down.
And this is why historians love, really love, those incredibly dull people who write in their diary every day about what they wore and what they had for dinner and how many miles away their friend Mr So-And-So’s house is in that one village. Because they are the only ones who *do* write down what was in the third spice jar, how many miles away this now-nonexistent village was and so on. Seriously, the diaries of really dull people are HISTORICAL TREASURES OF OTHERWISE LOST MINUTIAE.
Somewhere out there there is almost certainly a diary that would expose the true contents of that third spice jar because of the one time it was low and this person had to have a quiet word with the butler or something and it was the most interesting thing that happened all week so they wrote it down. And I hope that diary is found someday because now I really want to know.
That’s weirdly heart warming. Like, even if you are incredibly dull and live a normal boring life, you still might be the most interesting person to some historian some day
This was helpful to me today.
