Data is the only one of the crew (not including Guinan) who shows Barclay any respect. And while I don't like the way his anxiety - social and other - is portrayed in the show, he is obviously a person who suffers from it. Yet no-one, not even the captain, shows Barclay any respect. Geordi is mean (even when he himself has been anxious on certain social occasions AND was talking to a hologram who was an actual person at some point), Riker is rude, even Deanna is condescending and she's supposed to be a counselor. Out of everyone, Data is respectful and kind, obviously knowing what it is like to be left out and picked on (also he's just generally a kind and thoughtful person)

Basically Data is just the best soooo...
