â He was impressed by the redheadâs hospitality. Axel had been thoughtful enough to bring him soup and a sandwich from work while he slept the day away in his bed. This meant that in the time he had been sleeping, the other student had left, gone to work, and returned. The passing of time felt far longer in that perspective, and it makes him feel like a nuisance that had overstayed his welcome. Roxas gets to his feet and shuffles into the kitchen, stuffing his hands into his pockets nervously.
â You really didnât have to do that, â he says, lingering next to the counter. â Iâm sorry for crashing in your bed for so long. â Blue eyes follow Axel around the room as he unwraps a sandwich and heats up the soup in the microwave. As the warm aroma of chicken noodle soup wafts through the kitchen, Roxas starts to realize just how hungry he is, and how thankful he is for Axelâs kindness. It felt weird to be looked after like this. â Water is fine. Thanks, man. â
As the microwave beeps, the blond seats himself in front of the sandwich and takes a bite. The taste of turkey, fresh lettuce and juicy tomato explodes in his mouth and he hums. â This is really good, â he muffles through a mouthful of bread. â My compliments to the chef. â When the soup is set down, he takes a large spoonful of that as well. â Mmm⌠did you get yourself anything ? â
âItâs okay. I wanted to,â Axel replied without even thinking. The words brought a hint of color to his cheeks afterward. He wondered if Roxas would think it was weird that he cared so much about him. Heâd probably think he was a creep if he realized the full extent of Axelâs feelings. It made Axel feel a little creepy, too. He had never fallen head-over-heels-in-love with someone he hardly knew. Wait, love? Okay, he needed to back up. He didnât love Roxas. He was just powerfully infatuated. How could he love someone he barely knew? It made no sense and made him feel like a total sap.
âAnd no need to apologize,â Axel added after a moment. âI know how spent you were. Not to mention sick. Iâm glad youâre starting to feel better.â He looked away once Roxas made his drink request. âWater it is.â He hoped the other hadnât noticed the way his face heated up. Surely something like that would only make him more transparent. He grabbed a cup from the counter, padded over to the fridge, and got some ice and water from the dispenser.
Axel returned to the table and set the water near Roxasâs soup bowl. He sat across from him, smiling when he saw how much Roxas enjoyed the food. âIf you like it so much, maybe you could visit me at work sometime.â He didnât feel bold enough to request a date. Plus, it seemed tacky to take Roxas on a date to where he worked. He didnât even know if Roxas would even date him. âAnd nah, Iâm good. I ate back at work after my shift.â
