How to use GMail aliases in iOS 10 on your iPhone
Whilst I suggest you use the GMail app, which conveniently let’s you send from any alias set-up along with the correct signature, there is another way.
The requirements are however, that you have access to a simple imap and smtp email account - the latter must allow relaying.
1 Go to mail settings and add a new IMAP account or amend an existing one.
2 Add Another Email... to add your alias (from any account - like GMail).
3 Make sure you have allowed relaying in your SMTP server settings(!) or send via a third party SMTP server that allows relaying.
4 Open mail.app and select your new alias as the ‘send from’ address.
5 Mail.app will send your message via your non-GMail SMTP.
Some gotchas
- You need an SMTP that allows sending from other addresses
- You will want to BCC the email you send out back to your GMail account as it otherwise will not be recorded
- It’s probably easier to find a way to live with GMail.app or code a new one that does both signatures per alias and aliases...
