taken directly from the authors note at the end of the legendary edition of the manga. it reads
"...There was an especially strong fan response in Japan and overseas to the friendship between Purple Link and Shadow Link. As manga authors, we feel blessed that our characters' feelings came across so clearly."
with the context that the fan respose has always, overwhelmingly been to ship them, id say the message the authors are trying to potray here is pretty clear.
also, on the intellectual properties thing, if you dont like fans making fanfics and the like, get out of fandom spaces. block the tags. you dont need to be here. curate your own experience, stop trying to make other people cater to you. we are our own people with our own lives trying to find joy in whatever we can while the capitalist hell scape we live in tries to bleed us dry. fuck off.

The first aro ace characters I've found in media, a book that gave me hope I'd be accepted without being loved, being ripped apart and used by people who barely read it, just so they could do the opposite destroyed that hope. As a writer, seeing all the little details and themes, and the minority representation, over looked and ignored, makes me not even want to try writing again. Romance always hurts, but this? This is just mean.
there are canon aroace characters out there. vio is not one of them. having headcanons is beautiful, but please do not use your headcanon to harass people online.
i, and many other readers of four swords, have read it cover to cover many times. myself to many to count in the years since i bought it. my first copy is falling apart from how many times its been read.

He's not canonical anything. Yandere are definitely motivated be love to commit murder so unless murder is beautiful I disagree, people definitely love without bothering to learn how to take care of. I've played the games this manga was based on, and considering Green’s and Blue’s reactions the seeing the enemies that use touch to attack them, and how much more damage it does than a regular attack, plus vio refusing to touch shadow back when shadow wrapped his arm around vio, Red minimizing his touch, all of they’re facial expressions ever, and Shadow rescuing a little girl from an adult man with romantic intentions, Jago calling them kids chapter 1, and the theme being children beating enemies adults couldn't and the nuances of that, and the difficulties of being friends once romantic implications are introduced, means they were fighting against the romance you saw, fighting a doomed battle to try and convince you they don't want romance, and see each other (or are trying to) as friends (in some cases family).

and what little girl? link saves a barmaid from a pirate in chapter one, but 1-thats not a little girl 2-thats not shadow, and 3-i assure you that pirates intentions where not romantic.

THE GAME THIS MANGA IS A FANFIC FOR. THE GAME IT'S BASED ON. The enemies in game. That touch you. Do a LOT of damage. That is what you're not getting. THEY ARE IN PAIN. BECAUSE OF YOU. The game clearly gives hints someone like vio would enjoy piecing together to get more information about the story. The are a very realistic depiction of touch sensitivity, trust issues, and romance repulsion. Are you this air-headed irl to? Do you just assume people are whatever you want them to be? What aren't you happy with your own romantic relationship? Why do you need to project onto other people's characters! Go find real romantic characters somewhere else! Reread this manga assuming they're touch sensitive, try a new perspective. Not everything is about romance!

third, and i have mentioned this at another point in this conversation, I AM AROACE TOO! i am a romance positive aro, but i am aro, and not in a romantic relationship, so theres nothing for me to be dissatisfied with. i just find shipping fun.

You tag rape but not romance? Do you really think ship names are consistent enough to be reliable tags? They are canonical touch abuse victims. Rape victims have to deal with being treated like a doll by other people, seeing you treat fictional characters like romance dolls is probably triggering, not to mention not of you seem to understand where the line is between romance and friendship. Theater victims don't deal with rape as much as romance, and they're used to mimicking what they see in media.
