i don't really think saying ppl are ableist about tenna is a stretch because he is simultaneously so heavily coded with bpd (or just mental illness in general if you want to be vaguer) and characterized as being shockingly patient and non-violent/non-confrontational given his circumstances (outside of when he's in the middle of a nervous breakdown so bad he's having active flashbacks during it), that the only real way he can be so consistently mischaracterized as a possessive yandere dom who hurts people with his size is if you either didn't play the game or have very strange misconceptions about what a character like him "Would" act like. which certainly warrants reflection methinks

actually i know its a very small thing but theres this weird thing when talking about tenna as a parent specifically where people immediately point out that hed be actively manipulative or somehow psychologically abusing towards the kid when this is..... not a trait he actually has. i feel like people point to him "guilt tripping" the fun gang before his game to get them to play but a) this is part of the ACT he is joking at his expense and b) man i really do just think hes that sad. Like any guilt tripping in that i dont think was done on purpose he is just That desperate for approval and he was excited and wanted the kids to play his game. and re: his talking about his own "sweet talking" when we know hes rather unreliable as a narrator. idk the 'manipuative parent' thing feels like a trait people are assigning him arbitrarily. i dont think he could successfully manipulate his way out of a wet paper bag man

Also his “guilt tripping” is essentially the thing a dog does where it fake limps(and is so bad at it that he forgets which leg) and the reason he does it is he basically has a gun against his head threatening to blow his brains out. Like idk it’s almost like he’s a character with motivations for his actions and not “an abuser with borderline”. Like I’m sure people will point out “oh but the newsletter” as if he isn’t actively trying to communicate about something he feels wrong about with someone he believes already knows about it and is mad at him

I think people just see a character whos sad and go “well hes guilt tripping because hes making me feel sad”

i genuinely do think it's interesting Tenna gets debated about whether or not he's Problematic™ but like put him next to any other antagonist character and he's literally the most harmless Labrador retriever. He doesnt even rly fight you. He only resorts to force when there's literally no other options left and he's having a mental breakdown. Even then, he runs out of steam in 3 seconds and starts backtracking, like, Actually Every Time. The dude does not have it in him fr. has no bite OR bark.

my pet theory is that Tenna's betrayal just effects some ppl emotionally harder and they run away with the "GASP how could he!!" without looking around and putting actions into context. or even just comparing him to the other dark world bosses. 🤷‍♂️
