Because we as a society have proven so many times, that bodily autonomy can not be overridden to sustain a life! Don't believe me? Here are some examples:
As an ex jw, I was aware from a young age that if I desperately needed a blood transfusion then my parents could let me die because jws don't believe in blood transfusions. Hypothetically, let's say I had a rare blood type that only my parents had, and I desperately needed it to live due to a disease, my parents would refuse to give it to me, even though it would mean losing their daughter. And no matter how much I disagree with the jws and wouldn't want to die, I could not force them to give me a blood transfusion. Because not only are they protected under religious rights, but also medical rights to deny a transfusion!
In the McFall v Shimp case, Robert McFall needed a bone marrow transfusion to save his life, but the only match was his cousin, David Shimp. But Shimp did not want to do the transfusion and McFall took him to court. However, the court favored Shimp because they thought it it was wrong to deny bodily autonomy to sustain another person's life. Was the court wrong for that?
If you want to stop abortions let's force men to have mandatory vasectomies! It's less money, less invasive and easily reversible than hysterectomies are for women, plus it's easier for a young man to get a vasectomy than it is for a young women to get a hysterectomy. But wait, mandatory vasectomies would go against bodily autonomy even though it could actually help end the murder of unborn children 🤔
If I die and I'm not an organ donor, would it be morally just to take my organs out anyways because the organs would be going to people who need it? Many people die waiting for organs, aren't their lives precious?
Can we go back to pushing for mandatory vaccines? I know everyone was screaming "my body, my choice" but Human life is valuable at all stages and covid has already taken so many lives. And many doctors say you should get it.
Should we outlaw forms that ask patients if they would want to be DNR during their treatment plan? They're a life and taking a life is very wrong!
If I get in an accident and am legally brain dead, and my family decides to pull the plug, should they be charged with murder? That wasn't their call to make, I was a human life... with a heartbeat!
Genuinely tell me what is different between an abortion and the examples above! Because I'm having a hard time figuring that out, the only difference is that one has biblical strings attached to it and became taboo to a lot of Christian Americans! This isn't pro-life, because if it was, then people would have stronger opinions about all of the points above and advocate for change that actually does something. You twist the words of me and op to say we are saying you're better off dead than suffering. We're not saying that at all, we're saying that people should be able to have the right to determine how they should go about medical treatments that best fit their psychical, mental/emotional, or financial needs without the government interfering and telling you what to do because "they know best".
I'm sorry that you regret your abortion, you had your reasons to think it was a valid choice at the time, but just because you regret your decision doesn't mean others will, and doesn't mean you should take away that choice for others. Banning abortions will not undue your decision, but it will hurt people who are already alive and will just find more dangerous ways to abort the fetus. You tell pro-choicers that they are killing an unborn life, but are you truly above the cause I support or are you just who the victims are in this situation?
