Hana always takes the same path home after school. She finishes her classes for the day and walks through campus. Passing the herds of students by the cafeteria, people walking to the library to cram for their next exam, past the jocks on the lawn tossing a football back and forth, and lastly passing through the campus garden. Her campus garden. The garden is filled with beautiful flowers in every color imaginable and is tended by a freshman, cleverly named Yang Jungwon, who makes sure that every flower is in check.
Today is no different from any other day. Hana finishes her last class of the day. Literature class might not be the most interesting thing for the average person, but Hana finds it quite interesting regardless of how strict Mr. Park is. She picks up her NJZ tote bag, puts on her headphones and starts making her way back to her dorm. Ryujin did promise to make you ramen today to celebrate her victory during her latest psych exam. She did get a B after all. The late night cramming paid off.
On her way there she sees the same things she usually does. Students rushing into the cafeteria to buy a snack before their next class. Hana notices her friend Yizhuo walking next to a senior she vaguely remembers is named Mark. He seems to notice her looking over because he quickly taps the shorter girl's shoulder. Yizhuo waves her over, seemingly mouthing something to her. Hana gestures to her headphones and makes an X with her hands. Her friend nods slightly before pointing to her phone.

She replies before putting her phone back in her pocket, waving to farewell to her friend and the tiger-like boy. Hana chuckles slightly before continuing her too familiar route back to her small, slightly messy and cramped dorm room.
Johnny and Jaehyun wave at her when she walks past them. Hana always smiles and waves back. She can’t help but wonder if the two older boys have done the assignment for their joint history class, it is due next monday after all. At the same time she makes a mental note about adding the finishing touches to her own assignment.
As she walks past her math professor she can’t help but think “God. I hate that professor.” Has professor Kim ever done something that would and should result in her hating her? No. Regardless, Hana always walks past her teacher with a bit of distaste.
When she finally reaches her beloved garden she can’t help but look over at a certain bench by a big oak tree. You might be thinking, is there a reason why she has such a weird habit or is Hana just going insane. Of course there is a reason that she has such a habit. The reason being the cute boy from her best friend's art class. Hana is certain that he doesn’t even know she exists but she still makes sure to look at him a couple of times before making her way out of the garden.
However, today is different. Today the boy isn’t sitting on the bench sketching. Today he is nowhere to be seen. A small frown falls upon her lips as she sees the lack of black hair on the bench. “Weird,” Hana whispered quietly to herself.

with the sun shining bright making the ocean waves glisten, y/n chose to go for a quick swim along the bay. she was always careful when she swam around this area because there were almost always people either on boats or swimming about. luckily, y/n was careful to scope out the area beforehand making for a very peaceful swim.
As she swam around the coral reefs picking out different seashells to add to her collection, an unsuspecting boy happened to be taking a stroll down the pier.
nishimura riki had just finished his shift at the café nearby and so he decided to take a nice walk around and maybe dangle his legs over the cool water. just as he was making his way down to the water, y/n came up out of the water for a quick break.
as she lifted her head above water she quickly took notice of the blond boy in a café uniform sitting on the edge of the pier and looking out at the sea. she immediately sank back underneath the water, looking for a place to hide.
riki remained completely oblivious to the mermaid swimming all over the marina who was doing her very best to hide from him. she eventually opted to hide behind a boat close to the boy so that she could still keep an eye on him.
riki stayed still, occasionally swinging his feet back and forth over the water.
after a few minutes of silence had passed, y/n figured it was safe to get away because of how blissfully unaware the boy was.
diving back underneath the water, y/n quickly began to swim away, but her tail was caught by a net attached to the boat. she tried her very best to push forward and maneuver her tail out of the net but it was no use.
as y/n remained underwater trapped, riki began to notice sounds of splashing coming from a boat nearby. he glanced over to the source of the splashes but saw nothing. worried that he was losing his mind, he carefully stood up and began walking over to the boat. glancing over the water he could see something underneath and as he leaned closer he realized it was a person.
just as riki was about to call out to the mysterious swimmer, y/n’s head popped out above the water clearly panicking.
“are you alright?” riki asked the girl.
quickly turning her head to face him, panic rushed over y/n but she said nothing.
“hey swim chick, are you alright?” riki asked again.
“yes everything’s fine!!!” she quickly said, praying he couldn’t see her tail underneath the water.
“are you sure? I heard loads of splashing.”
“yes! I’m completely fine I just got tangled in some kind of net-“
“oh lemme help you then!”
“NO! I mean- no it’s alright you really don’t have to!” she said, trying to sound casual.
“really it’s no trouble. here let me grab hold of the net.” he reached out to the net attached the boat and began to pull it upwards, out of the water.
y/n’s mind was running a million miles a minute trying to come up with a way out before the boy caught a glimpse of her tail.
as riki yanked on the net, y/n yelped in pain.
“I’m so sorry! are you okay?” he asked, quickly softening his grip on the net.
“yes it’s fine I just-“
“oh holy shit.”
in that moment y/n’s heart fell. he had seen her tail. she squeezed her eyes shut, begging that this was all just a dream.
the silence between the two was extremely loud, and y/n didn’t dare to open her eyes to see his reaction.
“you’ve got a tail, swim chick.” riki suddenly said, pointing and smirking.
slowly opening her eyes to meet his, she let out a large sigh.
“yes.” she whispered. there was no way out of this. “I have a tail, land boy.”
he let out a small chuckle.
“here let me help you with that-“ he offered, reaching back out to the net.
“NO!” she yelled, making him immediately back off. “look. you need to promise me you won’t tell a single soul about this. I know you’re confused and shocked and all over the place, but I really need you to promise me you’ll keep this a secret. please.”
riki wore a small smile on his face as he stared out at the girl before him. he looked back under the water and examined her tail. it was a muted pink and orange ombré, her fins flipping around as they remained trapped.
now wearing a sneaky grin, he suddenly ran towards the edge of the pier and dove in with zero hesitation.
“oh god.” y/n whispered, rolling her eyes as she desperately tugged on the net trying to free herself. as she did so, the mysterious land boy suddenly appeared underwater next to her tail, now carefully attempting to pull off the net.
her eyes glanced over at the boy as he remained focused on freeing her tail. as she stared, her eyes slowly took a glimpse at the rest of him.
instead of the café uniform he wore prior, his clothes were replaced by a green and blue scaly tail.
for the second time in the last five minutes, she felt her heart drop. her tail began frantically flipping about, she couldn’t believe her own eyes. alarmed by her movement, riki turned to look at her.
her eyes remained fixated on his tail. noticing this, he winked and shamelessly shrugged his shoulders, going back to work on the net.
“you’ve got a tail, land boy.” y/n slowly said.
“that I do.” he replied. “and now you have one too swim chick. well you always did- but I gave it back- cause it was trapped in the net- yeah.”
y/n smiled at his awkward rambling.
“thank you, land boy.”
“I feel like you can stop calling me land boy now- I mean you’ve literally seen my tail.” he laughed and spun around, showing it off.
“so you’re a merman?” she observed.
“and you’re a mermaid.” he smiled.
the two sat in comfortable silence for a moment, both equally as mesmerized by each other.
“I bet I’m faster than you.” she suddenly challenged, mimicking his spin.
“oh yeah?” he smirked.
“yup.”
“you’re on swim chick.”
the two then shot off as quickly as possible, both giggling as they glanced at each other speeding through the water.

you quickly typed “やさい” into your keyboard, earning a little ding meaning you were correct.
moving onto the next question you were determined to finish the lesson under 30 seconds, even though your speed did not matter in the slightest.
“translate: どうもありがとう!”
“this is way too easy.” you whispered, swiftly typing “thank you very much!” into the space provided. duo blinked at you, then cheered.
“どうもありがとう duo!” you said, giggling as you prepared to answer the next question.
“translate: 先生, おはようございます”
as you were typing the correct english translation, a voice suddenly interrupted.
“what the actual fuck are you doing.”
you jumped, dropping your phone onto the floor and holding your chest, gasping for breath.
“YOU WERE MEANT TO BE SLEEPING!” you declared to your boyfriend as if he was somehow in the wrong for waking up to your extremely loud duolingo practice.
niki laughed and shook his head.
“HELLO why are you learning Japanese from a BIRD when you have me?” he asked, eyes wide and eyebrows raised, now propped up on his elbows.
“because! you were ASLEEP!” you were determined to blame him but only so you could mask your embarrassment.
niki just rolled his eyes, muttering something in japanese that you tried your absolute hardest to understand. but that was merely impossible considering you were still on level one of “greetings” according to Duo’s lesson plan.
“what was that?” you asked accusingly.
“did you not understand? i thought you were a japanese master…” he teased, a smug look on his face.
you just threw a pillow at him in return. this brought about the most dramatic gasp that you had ever heard from niki, which was not easy to beat considering he did this all the time.
you watched as he contemplated picking up the nearest pillow and chucking it at your head in the name of revenge, but paused and composed himself.
“y/n, why are you learning japanese? especially while I’m asleep?” there was a slight smirk on his lips that let you know that he already knew the answers to his own questions, he just wanted to tease you.
“you know, I know, we all know- let’s move on haha go back to sleep goodnightnikisweetdreams!” you rambled, quickly diving under the covers, hiding your face and turning your body away from him.
this didn’t really do anything. you were only met with loud shuffling and breaths until your boyfriend was now laying next to you, also underneath the covers.
“this is nice.” he whispered sarcastically, his lips pressed into a thin line as he stared at the duvet above him.
“now what do you want.” you turned your body now to face him, only to be met with the same mischievous smirk as before.
“tell me why you were learning japanese as a secret.”
“no.”
“yes!”
“no?”
“YES???”
“FINE. fine fine fine fine you win- alright- whatever- yes I was learning japanese because I wanted to surprise you and your family to make them feel more comfortable at dinner tomorrow and to make you happy.” you whispered the last part, letting out a deep sigh. “can we go to sleep now?”
even in the dark underneath your blankets, you could still pick out the rose colored tint that dusted niki’s cheeks, paired with an equally as flustered grin.
“thank you.” was all he could manage to say without getting too lovey-dovey. slowly, you began to smile back, finding his reaction to be quite sweet, a complete contrast to his sass from moments prior.
niki then grabbed your wrist and pulled you closer to him so that your head was now resting against his chest with your arms around his waist.
you breathed in his warmth, eyes peacefully closing.
“do you want to stay under the covers because I’m starting to sweat…” he whispered, suddenly breaking the comfortable silence. you just laughed, jokingly rolling your eyes. your laugh instantly made him chuckle as well, chin rested on the top of your head.
“yeah I’m overheating as well.” you slowly released your hands from around his waist and shoved the blanket away, the cool air of your apartment rushing in.
“better?” you asked, fanning his face.
“much.” he grabbed your wrists again and put your arms back to the way they were, wrapped around his waist.
“goodnight riki.” you whispered, titling your head up to lightly press a kiss to his chin.
“goodnight, sneaky japanese prodigy.” he whispered back, smiling as he kissed the top of your head.
and the two of you fell into a comfortable silence, the same way you did each night. and as always, you wished that you could stay this way forever.

To all of the “The Reve Festival: LOVE” readers, i’m sad to announce that i have decided to discontinue the series. i haven’t had an ounce of motivation to update it as well as the fact that i don’t really care for it nor do i know what direction i want it to go in. after a long time thinking, i’ve decided that i will not be continuing to update it.
i am currently writing a renjun fanfic called our garden. i want to be finished writing it before the end of april. it’s set in a university setting and renjun and reader are strangers (acquaintances??) to lovers🤗🤗 please look forward to it a lot!
ROSE — chapter 10: kingdom sports day (get it cause…)
synopsis: after she turns 18, y/n’s parents arrange a competition for young suitors in her town to compete for her love, a family tradition that brought about her parents’ marriage. twelve men are selected, but who will win her heart?
“A GROUP DATE???” sunoo exclaimed, his jaw dropped. In his hand he held a white card wrapped with a tiny pink bow that previously laid atop the coffee table in the suitors’ living room.
every suitor shared an intrigued gasp.
“does it say how we should dress?” sunghoon piped up.
sunoo flipped the card over and reread it.
“no it just says ‘don’t worry about staying clean as you play out on the green’…. whatever that means…”
“oh so wear stuff we’re prepared to get dirty?” heeseung suggested.
“isn’t the kingdom supplying us with outfits?” yeonjun wondered.
everyone shrugged their shoulders.
“I guess we should just go see.” soobin proposed.
the suitors shared nods of agreement and stood up, heading to their rooms.
an hour later all twelve suitors stood in a line in the back garden of the castle. they each wore variations of tank tops and t-shirts paired with running shorts in the blaring sun.
through the glass double doors located in front of the fountain, two guards walked out followed by the princess. she had changed her outfit and now wore a pink floral silk skirt that stopped at her ankles, paired with a pink silk top and golden earrings. her hair was now in two pigtails, each tied with a white bow.
each suitor seemed to light up at her appearance.
“good afternoon!” she announced walking towards them.
“good afternoon princess y/n!” they repeated back.
“thank you for joining me in the garden for our first group date! today you guys will be placed into two teams and compete in fun sports games! the winning team will get invited to a party in the castle tonight with yours truly, while the losing team will have to return to their rooms for the rest of the night.” princess y/n revealed.
each of the suitors exchanged glances, some nervous, some excited.
“so without further ado! let me announce the teams. team one will be the purple team. the members are as follows: heeseung, sunghoon, jay, jungwon, hueningkai, and soobin. team two will be the blue team. the members are once again, as follows: jake, sunoo, niki, beomgyu, yeonjun, and taehyun. Please come collect your jerseys of your team’s color!”
the boys ran towards a clothing rack that held their jerseys, high-fiving and cheering as they met with their members. once they were dressed, multiple guards suddenly spawned holding different sports equipment and laying it across the grass.
“the first game will be an obstacle course relay!” the princess declared. “first you will spin in a circle ten times. then you will dribble a soccer ball through a zig-zag pattern of cones and shoot the ball into the goal. after that you must jump over the hurdle and then crawl underneath the next hurdle. once you arrive at the fountain you will jump up and grab hold of the rope above and climb along it over the fountain, sort of like monkey bars except it’s just a rope. be careful not to fall in! once you reach the other side of the fountain you’re done! each member of your team must complete this obstacle course. any failure during the course will result in the player going back to the beginning and starting over. the first team to have all of their members make it to the end will win this game. sound good?” the princess explained.
the suitors were appalled as they watched the guards set up the equipment.
“alright let’s get ready!!” she said as both teams participated in a group huddle before starting.
“one… two…three… purple team!!!”
“one… two…three… blue team!!!”
Each team shouted out as they formed a line before the obstacle course.
the princess sat on a stage with a microphone at the end of the course so that she could watch. a whistle blew, and the teams immediately sprinted to the marker that indicated their place to spin. the first competitors were heeseung and jake. after spinning, they dizzily ran forward to the soccer ball and began dribbling. both were nearly falling over and desperately trying to keep focused. they each kicked the ball at the goal and surprisingly both made it in. it was a very tight race! they were moving almost in sync over and under the hurdles. now came the most daunting part, the rope climb. The two jumped up and grabbed hold of the rope, quickly advancing forward. they were careful not to look down at the fountain because let’s face it, the water was probably freezing and not the most sanitary. from the start of the course, each team was yelling all kinds of cheers and encouragement. y/n watched intently.
shockingly, the two made it to the end of the course at about the same time, maybe a milliseconds difference.
the next competitors advanced immediately. representing the purple team, soobin looked as if he could double over at any second as he dribbled the ball. representing the blue team however, yeonjun was perfectly focused. as they both kicked the ball, soobin missed the goal by about a foot while yeonjun made it in.
the purple team cried out in disappointment while the blue team jumped up in down in excitement. soobin rushed back to the start, and yeonjun advanced without a hitch.
the rest of the relay went about the same, each team having to restart here and there until they were down to the final two.
jungwon of the purple team had a few seconds on niki of the blue team. however, niki held the soccer skill. as the two dribbled the ball between the cones, niki didn’t miss a beat. he effortlessly dribbled and perfectly kicked the ball forward into the goal while jungwon missed. as jungwon retreated back to the start, the blue team members jumped up and down all over the place at the finish line.
smiling from ear to ear, niki jumped over the hurdle and slid underneath the next. but, jungwon was quickly catching up. missing the goal seemed to have flipped a switch in his brain, now he sped through the cones and scored! towards the end of the course, niki rubbed his sweaty palms on his blue jersey and easily jumped up to the rope thanks to his height. he slowly advanced forward, cautiously avoiding the fountain. behind him however, it seemed as if jungwon had gained super speed. he leapt and dove around the hurdles, now meeting niki at the rope segment. niki began to worry, choosing to speed up as he furrowed his brows, staring up at his hands that were clenched around the rope.
each team watched biting their nails and peeking through their fingers, appalled at the tight race. the princess had her hands on her face, nervously watching the two try to cross the fountain.
jungwon was almost gliding along the rope, as if it were a zip line. niki could see him out of his peripheral, nervously advancing as fast as possible.
the race was tight. as the two came to the end of the rope, it seemed as if it would be a tie.
until niki decided to take a big risk, stopping with about two feet of rope left and instead swinging his legs forward, launching himself at the finish line.
he didn’t entirely think this through, he just hoped it would work, and as jungwon watched with his jaw dropped, his hands still glued to the rope, niki seemed to float in the air for a second before landing just barely across the finish line.
the garden erupted in chaos as the blue team jumped up and down congratulating niki, even going as far as to chant his name. the purple team still congratulated jungwon and cheered for his efforts, but were still disappointed.
“it seems as though the blue team has won!” the princess announced through the cheers. “congratulations to the blue team and also congratulations to the purple team for their efforts. five minute water break while we set up the next game!” she announced.
the suitors, walked towards the sidelines where a butler held a tray of glasses of water. the same guards as before immediately began disassembling the course and brought out a large tarp, placing it on the grass. the tarp had an empty grid across it, and all of the suitors looked at it with confusion.
once the water break finished, the princess blew her whistle once again and raised her microphone.
“I can tell none of you know what this next game is, but it’s a classic! it is of course, HUMAN TIC TAC TOE!”
the suitors burst into laughter and shock.
“in order to make the grid even and the game fair, each team will receive an extra player so that it makes a four by four grid. guards!” she gleefully called out to the guards, one in a purple jersey and the other in a blue one.
the suitors laughed again and welcomed their guard teammates to their side.
“the goal is to get four in a row! diagonal, vertical, across, whatever. since blue team won the last round, the purple team will get to go first.” the princess blew her whistle again and the purple team began plotting.
hueningkai moved first, picking the upper left corner.
it was now the blue team’s turn, sunoo picking the upper right corner.
jay picked the spot below hueningkai’s, aiming for a vertical four-in-a-row.
taehyun then continued the plan for the diagonal win, selecting the spot diagonal to sunoo’s.
the game continued on like this for some time, until the purple team wound up cutting off the blue team’s diagonal plan, leading them to cut off the purple team’s vertical plan.
for such an intense gameplay, it had an anticlimactic ending: neither team won.
“wow guys. you would think a human tic tac toe game would have a more interesting ending… well. it is time for the final game! since nobody won the last game, this game will be worth DOUBLE POINTS! so both teams still have a shot at winning.” the princess announced.
the purple team felt relief, as they still had a chance at victory.
“now I did not plan this final game… I enlisted the help of my dearest friends! so please welcome joonie, youngeun, sakura, and isa!”
the suitors clapped as y/n’s best friends joined her on the stage. they each waved at the suitors and whispered to each other, pointing at who they thought looked the best in their jerseys.
“as I said I did not plan this nor do I have any knowledge of what the game is! I will be just as shocked as you guys are!” The princess laughed, handing Sakura her microphone.
“hello gentlemen! my name is Sakura and I will now become the official MC of this sports day!!! so our final game is less of a game and more of a challenge. joonie, would you like to explain?” sakura announced, passing the mic to joonie.
“hello! I’m joonie! so as sakura said, this will be a challenge for each of you and it actually has really nothing to do with sports. this is about showing your creativity, teamwork, and admiration for our beautiful princess of adora.” joonie beamed, motioning towards y/n.
“hi my name is isa! this challenge’s official name is “cheer for your dear”! I named this one because I like rhymes. yes I’m also the person who wrote on your challenge card earlier!”
the suitors nodded, remembering the ominous “don’t worry about staying clean as you play out on the green” part of the card.
“hello cuties. I’m youngeun!!! in this final challenge, each team will create a cheer for our beloved princess y/n showcasing your love for her! we are looking for it to be entertaining, eye catching, and of course, lovey-dovey!!!” youngeun declared, giggling at how embarrassed y/n looked at the idea of the challenge.
“you will have ten minutes to put together a mini performance. there is no set time length, just do your best!” sakura declared, now holding y/n’s whistle. “ready? LET THE GAMES BEGIN!” She yelled, blowing the whistle.
the teams erupted in yelling and aggressive hand motions. the girls moved to another area of the garden as to avoid spoilers for the performances.
while the boys prepared their mini-showcases, the girls sat down by the daisy display and began talking.
“alright so which man is number one???” youngeun immediately questioned.
“I don’t know!!! it’s too soon to tell.” Y/n honestly responded.
“ok well who has stood out today?” isa asked.
“well if you must know. The person who has stood out most today is…”
the girls were on the edge of their seats.
“niki. he pulled the craziest move during the obstacle course. it was like he became a totally different person. when we first met he was very shy and nervous, it was so cute. but today he was so energetic! like he somehow scored a perfect goal even after getting so dizzy… it was so fun to watch.” y/n recounted the day’s events, blushing off into the distance.
the girls all watched her, giggling and smiling.
“he really is cute…” Sakura whispered, making the girls laugh.
“he really is. but then there’s heeseung. it’s just so unbelievable that he’s here to begin with… I mean has he liked me since we were kids? or is he just here because he needed an excuse to see me again… like as friends…” y/n wondered.
“y/n I highly doubt that this man entered a competition that ends in MARRIAGE, just because he wanted to catch up with an old friend.” joonie interjected.
“I’m definitely going to regret saying this aloud… but I agree with joonie.” isa stated.
joonie pretended to be offended, but then playfully pushed isa’s shoulder and smiled.
“this is all so crazy. but I mean i still barely know these guys. aside from heeseung of course. god I really hope I don’t screw this up somehow. I mean what if I pick the wrong guy??”
“since when did you become so corny and cliché… love really is making you crazy…” youngeun whispered.
y/n rolled her eyes.
“you’re right. let’s go watch the silly men sing and dance!” y/n giggled.
“i would be honored.” Sakura declared.
the girls linked arms and took a lap around the flower gardens before returning to the main garden turned performance space for the final round of the group date.

To all of the “The Reve Festival: LOVE” readers, i’m sad to announce that i have decided to discontinue the series. i haven’t had an ounce of motivation to update it as well as the fact that i don’t really care for it nor do i know what direction i want it to go in. after a long time thinking, i’ve decided that i will not be continuing to update it.

“so why didn’t you two stay in contact?” joonie asked, arms folded across her chest in utter disbelief.
“I wasnt allowed to.” y/n shrugged her shoulders, careful not to disrupt the seamstress who was currently dressing y/n in her ballgown.
“I guess this means he had a crush on you?” isa realized, raising her eyebrows.
“SHHH. NO MORE COMMENTARY ON THIS.” y/n declared.
“so the competition is over before it even starts…” sakura frowned. “it’s unfortunate. I was really hoping to see them all fight for you in the haunted house.”
“what do you mean over? JUST BECAUSE WE WERE FRIENDS IN FRESHMAN YEAR MEANS IM AUTOMATICALLY GONNA PICK HEESEUNG?” y/n’s jaw dropped.
“well yeah?” youngeun replied like it was obvious.
“you guys stress me out.” y/n shook her head.
“pick sunoo so I can get free makeup.” isa suggested.
“yeonjun is so fine though. can we take the ones you reject??” youngeun asked.
“can you just put your fucking dresses on.”
the girls laughed, dashing to the clothing rack that held their ballgowns.
y/n couldn’t help but laugh back at her friends and their over the top excitement after only seeing the suitors through a television screen.
“do you think she was watching?” heeseung asked, tying his shoes as he sat on the same leather couch as before the red carpet.
“I’d like to think so. i mean she wouldn’t miss our first appearances would she? or maybe she couldn’t because she was busy getting ready- I don’t know.” jake was clearly nervous, playing with the cuffs of his pants.
“dont be nervous!” heeseung interjected. “if you’re clearly nervous around her then this is all just gonna go wrong very quickly. she’ll also be able to tell if you’re nervous.”
“how do you know???”
“because you are so bad at hiding your emotions!” heeseung responded without missing a beat. it was a believable excuse anyway.
jake playfully nudged his shoulder and the two moved to sit in front of a mirror to get their hair done.
“are we gonna have to dance…” hueningkai whispered in disbelief.
“oh my god are we- this is it for me. this is really it. I’m going to trip and fall and embarrass myself. might as well leave now to avoid the embarrassment.” beomgyu had his head in his hands.
taehyun just let out a deep sigh as he rolled his eyes.
“why do I always have to be the sensible one? hueningkai, yes you will have to dance. but the steps are easy and she isn’t gonna choose you based on your dance skills, it’s based on YOU! beomgyu, if you walk out of that door I’m going to smack you across the head. you won’t trip and fall. you will dance with her, just like all of us will and you will be a normal human being. both of you please get it together i am begging.” taehyun basically gave them a lecture, standing in front of the two who sat terrified on the couch.
“appreciate it mate.” beomgyu whispered in fear.
“fair enough.” hueningkai muttered.
“beomgyu please stop with the british accent-“ taehyun nearly slapped him right then and there.
“IT COMES OUT WHEN IM NERVOUS!!!”
“thats what she said.” hueningkai giggled.
taehyun was appalled, beomgyu nearly died laughing.
a usual sight among the trio.
“jay i do respect you, but don’t you respect me as well? cant you at least accept the fact that you aren’t the only person on the earth to like the princess??” jungwon tried his best to approach jay calmly, but he could feel himself slowly losing it.
“of course I respect you jungwon. you’re my best friend for gods sake. and yes. i know I’m not the only person to like her, I just never thought you would feel the same! not when you spent so much time listening to me rant about how much I liked her!” jay never meant to snap at jungwon, he was right about how much their friendship meant to him. but he couldn’t seem to shake the feeling of betrayal he felt.
jungwon sensed his change in demeanor and slowly sat down on the couch next to him, staring at the ground.
“I fucked up. i shouldve at least mentioned my feelings towards her beforehand. I’m sorry for breaking your trust, thats probably what I’m most upset about in this whole situation.” jungwon admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I guess a part of me knew I’d upset you, and that’s why I kept it from you. i also knew that if I didn’t apply then I would regret it for the rest of my life. i didn’t even expect to get in, and I definitely didn’t expect both of us to.” he fidgeted with his hands, still not looking up from the floor.
“and im sorry for snapping at you. i know you didn’t have bad intentions, you never do. thats like close to impossible for you.” jay chuckled, patting jungwon’s back, making him laugh as well.
“is it possible for us to be good?” this was when jungwon finally lifted his head to look jay in the eyes.
“i think so. why don’t we become each other’s wingman or something?? truly I’d take anything over us fighting or our friendship ending.”
“wingman it is.” jungwon extended his arm to shake jay’s hand, a symbol of a truce.
jay shook his hand and smiled.
“now that we’re good, can we practice dancing? this will be so humiliating otherwise.” jungwon laughed.
“of course.” jay nodded, the two getting up to practice dance steps.
“who was stopping me from putting on a silly little victorian boy outfit before today. seriously. because I look a little too fine??” sunghoon turned and strutted around the dressing room towards the mirror.
niki and sunoo just exchanged looks of disgust.
“I feel embarrassment for you. how is that possible? why do I care about how you choose to humiliate yourself?” niki crossed his arms.
“stop being jealous, you will get wrinkles my dear riki.” sunghoon looked him up and down, then went back to strutting around.
“I desperately need to be out of this dressing room away from you both.” sunoo continued doing his makeup, with his own products of course.
“you’ll fall and break a bone trying to dance at the ball. that seems worse than a couple wrinkles but that’s just me.” niki sighed sarcastically.
“whatever you say grandpa!” sunghoon shrugged his shoulders.
then niki threw one of sunoo’s makeup wipes at him and ran and hid in the bathroom before sunghoon could even fight back.
“how is it that he’s always running from us somehow.” sunoo wondered, thinking back to when niki walked out on their photoshoot.
“he needs to be humbled.” was all sunghoon said, sunoo whispering “the irony…” back without him hearing.
“the red carpet was even better than I imagined it to be. all of the photographers were so excited to see us??” yeonjun looked like he could start jumping around with the amount of energy he had.
“I know! I’m even more excited for the ball… I bet she’ll look so pretty… let’s not look stupid yeah?” soobin adjusted yeonjun’s hair.
“of course. I feel like the embarrassment from rugby is still there I really don’t want to relive anything close to that…” yeonjun shuddered at the thought.
“impossible. that was definitely rock bottom for you, I’m not sure you can hit it again so you’ll be good!”
“thank you soobin.” yeonjun smiled, even though he was being teased.
“of course! it also won’t be raining so the odds of you slipping-“
“ok you made your point.”
the two burst into laughter and went back to fixing each other’s hair and outfits.

I always see her sipping strawberry milk. Everyday when I enter the classroom I notice the little strawberry milk bottle on her desk. She always chats with her friends laughing at their jokes with the prettiest laugh in the galaxy. The way her nose scrunches mid laugh is probably the cutest thing in the world.
Our teacher had been so kind to seat me next to Yunjin during this term. Today, as usual, I see her sipping strawberry milk at her desk. As soon as she heard the door open she glued her eyes to the door. Her face lit up as she saw me.
“Y/N~ Girl! I missed you. Why didn’t you hangout with me yesterday?” she says as I sit down at my desk.
“I’m sorry, I really needed to study yesterday.” I told her with a small pout adorning my face.
“It’s okay~ We can do something today, after school. Okay?” she says as she envelopes me in a hug. I blush slightly at the contact before agreeing with a small nod.
As class starts I can’t help but get lost in my daydream. Imagining what it would be like if Yunjin saw me in the way that I see her. I spend hours and hours thinking about her lips, they look so soft and plump. I would kill to miss her, I bet they taste just as sweet as the strawberry milk she always drinks.
I stared at Yunjin for a little more before the teacher pulled me out of my daydream. “Y/N can you please tell me what I just went through?” Honestly, no. But being the stubborn person I am, I couldn't tell him that.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and saw Yunjin pointing to a quotation in her notebook with her pencil. “Yes sir, you were telling us how life without gravity would be.” The teacher seemed satisfied and turned back to the board. I smiled gratefully at Yunjin. Oh, could you please notice me.
I stand waiting by the cherry blossom trees that Yunjin and I agreed to meet at. Mid spring is the perfect time to admire the beautiful scenery of Korea. Or have a picnic, so that's what we are doing. I bought some of our favorite snacks from over the years, umeboshi, yellow kiwi, blueberries, choco songi and, of course, strawberry milk.
“Y/N!” Yunjin called as she sped towards the tree. “You prepared all of this? I thought we were just going to take a walk or something, this is so sweet.” she smiled.
“Well, anything for you.” I replied with the same look mirroring on my face.
As we sit down to eat I hear a little gleeful screech “You brought strawberry milk!” I look at Yunjin to see her face in complete delight. She pokes the straw through the lid of the little bottle. I smile at the scene unfolding in front of me. Cute.
We sat there chatting about everything and anything, schoolwork, music, and sports (Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. Sports? Sports. Yunjin likes them and therefore, I’ll talk about them.) and eating our picnic snacks for a little while before hearing a small “Excuse me.” I look up to see the face of a small child, maybe around 4-5 years old.
“Hi, how can I help you?” Yunjin asks with a small smile painting her face.
“Are you guys on a date? I've heard that two people on a picnic are usually on a date! You guys are so cute!” he quickly spat out with a cheerful tone. “Congratulations on your date,” she yelled out whilst dancing. “Con, grat, ula, ti, ons, on your date!” she danced out whilst punctuating every syllable in the word before running off again.
I sucked in a breath. She didn’t say that, did she? I must be dreaming. “What?” I whispered back looking into her eyes.
“We could be cute together, like a couple. I like you, a lot. And honestly I think I always have. You mean the world to me so, won't you give me a chance? Just one, if it doesn’t work out then we can just be friends but I’d like to try this too.”
It felt like my world stopped. Yunjin likes me. She likes me back and she always has. I really must be dreaming. I quickly pinch myself to see if I was in fact dreaming. Yunjin laughs at my reaction and I muster up a reply, “I would give you my whole heart but you stole it in advance so, yes I will gladly go out with you.”
Yunjin quickly engulfs me in a tight hug. This feels unreal. Life can change so quickly but I guess romance is just so sweet like strawberry milk.
the group nodded and y/n gave an encouraging smile before turning away and squeezing joonie’s hand.
“ladies, you may go ahead.” the producer announced, standing next to the cameras.
y/n and joonie walked forward first, as predetermined by joonie’s unwillingness to leave y/n’s side. the two had their arms linked and shared occasional glances at one another.
sakura, isa, and youngeun entered behind them, faces bright with the same excited expressions.
the five then stood in a line in front of the cameras, smiling and waving with y/n in the center. the paparazzi shouted different poses, earning a laugh from the girls as one in particular repeatedly demanded a flower pose.
once they finished group photos y/n went ahead to get her solo shots as planned, the other four followed suit. the carpet was filled with flustered laughter as they tried to handle the kind comments from all the reporters.
once the girls were done on the carpet they waved goodbye kindly and made their way to y/n’s dressing room as fast as possible, tearing off their heels and running through the halls barefoot. it’s important to note that sakura, isa, and youngeun have their own dressing room but instead chose to go to y/n’s just to watch the suitors walk the carpet together.
“alright gentlemen. im sure this is your first time on the carpet?” the producer asked.
“yeah.”
“definitely.”
“nope.”
“unfortunately.”
“surprisingly, no.”
“okay then. well im just going to have you all walk forward and stand in a line for one big group photo, then the directors will ask you to spread out and photographers will get your individual images. sound alright?” the producer generously explained, motioning to the carpet and the camera crew.
the suitors nodded, some nervous and some more prepared for this than anything else they’ve ever done.
“alright its showtime!!” the producer giddily clapped his hands together, clearly he had been preparing for this moment.
the suitors shook out their nerves, sunoo entering first.
the girls tightly held onto each other’s hands, crowded around the tv as they sat on the dressing room floor.
“THEYRE WALKING IN!!!” joonie bounced up and down.
“are they gonna tell us their names???” sakura asked frantically.
suddenly, the suitors filed in, standing in a line in front of the cameras. y/n’s dressing room was filled with screams in milliseconds.
y/n was staring at the screen through her fingers in disbelief that one of the men on screen would be her husband before Christmas.
“kim sunoo, nishimura riki, park sunghoon, yang jungwon, lee heeseung, park jongseong, shim jaeyun, kang taehyun, choi yeonjun, choi beomgyu, kai huening, and choi soobin. your twelve suitors set to compete in princess y/n’s ‘selection.’”
y/n sat there, frozen in time. unable to pay attention to a single name the announcer had read. barely even capable of taking a good look at any of them.
it was only when the time for solo shots came that y/n gingerly removed her hands from her eyes and looked at each boy.
“KIM SUNOO??? isa don’t you use his makeup wipes??” youngeun shook isa’s arm, jaw dropped.
“park sunghoon.. where do I know that name…” sakura stared at his face as if it would suddenly give the answer.
“THE ICE SKATER???” joonie gasped, earning equally as dramatic gasps from the other girls.
y/n sat there, knees to her chest, gaping at the television screen. but as the camera panned towards the fifth contestant, lee heeseung, y/n felt her heart drop down a flight of stairs.
lee heeseung. lee heeseung who got held back for two years in highschool for skipping so much. heeseung who could never seem to wear his uniform the right way, despite numerous complaints from teachers. heeseung who still ran for class president even though there was absolutely no chance he’d win, he just thought it would be funny.
lee heeseung who sat next to y/n for all of freshman year. teasing her by throwing pencils her way and then asking for some to borrow. the very same boy who befriended y/n and became her personal body guard and best friend, solely because he thought that she looked cute when she was so nervous on the first day of school.
she never thought she’d see him again. but here he was, smiling and waving to the cameras, about to compete to be her husband.

Haechan and Jisung had texted Karina and I asking us to meet them at the park. Naturally I said yes and Karina agreed soon after.
As I walked up to Karina's house I felt a bit nervous. We haven't seen each other in a while. That’s mainly my fault, I've been hanging out with Gaeul a lot recently. However, prioritizing my (almost) girlfriend shouldn’t be something I should feel bad about. Right?
I knocked on Karina's door and took a step back as I saw the door open. Karina stepped out of her door showing off her effortless beauty. “Hey”
“Hi, shall we get going?” Karina nodded and started walking down the street pausing to turn around and check if I was coming. I hurried down the street to catch up with the black haired girl.
We walked down the sidewalk whilst the October breeze brushed past us. I looked down at our almost brushing hands and smiled. I started telling her about what I’ve been up to recently, the conversation mainly steering into one about Gaeul.
“So then Gaeul and I went to a pumpkin patch and we found the- are you listening to me?” I exclaimed looking over at Karina.
She looked a little put off for a second before replying, “Yeah you went to the pumpkin patch and found a pumpkin that you liked.”
“Yes! It was the cutest little pumpkin ever. Gaeul has it at her house and she’s going to draw a face on it before Halloween,” I sighed out happily before continuing. “We should watch Halloween movies the day before Halloween!” I proclaimed but still got no reply. Maybe she didn’t hear me.
As soon as we reach the park Haechan comes running towards us with open arms, “Hey Haechan get off! You’re hugging us too tight, we're gonna suffocate.” I giggled out before Karina headed over to Jisung sitting down on the bench next to him.
“So how are you? What's up with your life? You NEVER hangout with us anymore.” Haechan accused.
“She called me again today. Gaeul, of course.” I replied as we sat down on the bench. Haechan noticed Karina's face quickly changing expression but let it slide.
Karina was within the blink of an eye being dragged over to the slide by Haechan. Whether he’s a good person or not I’m slightly jealous at the fact that I’m not with them.
Jisung and I sat there chatting for a while looking over at the other two every now and then.
“HEY! Y/N! JISUNG! Why aren’t you over here? Join us!” We sigh and soon walk over to the other two. Jisung and I both sit down on the swings.
“Swing us or we’ll leave.” Jisung said with a pointed look towards Karina. She laughed slightly before walking up behind Jisung to push him. We continued like this for 15 minutes before we all agreed to start going home.
I asked Jisung if he wanted to walk home with me since we live close to each other. Jisung agreed before we said goodbye to the others.
“Y/N, wait!” I hear Karina let out. “Stay safe on the way home.”
“Of course I have a Jisung to protect.” I smiled before walking back over to Jisung.
As soon as I got home I sat down on my couch and put on some show to have on in the background whilst I caught up on social media.
I laid my eyes on Karina’s latest post.
I frowned a bit at the caption. You look so happy in this picture. I just wish it was me who took it.
Wait. Why am I thinking like that? Karina is just a friend. I shouldn't get upset over a friend, right? Karina has never liked me back plus I have Gaeul. This isn’t right.
If only you can comfort my aching heart. I think I honestly just need a moment to sit down and think. I shouldn’t be with Gaeul if I even feel a little bit of doubt.
“My best girl Rei” If only I got angry and disappointed in the same way as I do with Karina when I read that.
But I don’t say what I want. I reply with what I think Gaeul wants to hear. It seems like my friendship with Karina that I’ve protected and tried to keep safe and close to my heart is shattering quickly. I just wish it would get back to normal.
