I love the moon.
I love how behind its luminant facade, it is but mere rocks and sand. Such a striking contrast; Such close resemblance to us all.

"That time is past,
And all its aching joys are now no more
And all its dizzy raptures. Not for this
Faint I, nor mourn nor murmur; other gifts
Have followed; for such loss, I would believe,
Abundant recompense"
- Tintern Abbey
“Like a forgotten old photograph, this dream will stay pressed, between the pages of a book you don’t feel like reading anymore.”
— Khadija Rupa
"You can't imagine what it's been like. Things you've just said and forgotten, I've put myself asleep night after night remembering - trying to squeeze something more out of them."
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, Magnetism
Blue.
It's not merely a color. It's a state of being. A feeling.
Like hope tinged with sorrow,
Like a deep breath flowing through a tight chest,
Like a sad melody sung on a clear day.
It's the color of broken wings and hopeful hearts.
“People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them.”
— Veronica Roth
"Hope is the thing with feathers", they say
But hope led me astray
It seems my bird was of the malevolent type,
Its songs hypnotized me
Its soft feathers blinded me
Its sweet melody lured me down a lonely path
and I followed, despite my uncertain feet
I followed
Then all of a sudden, the voice was gone
My feet went cold
And I was lost.
Fascinating isn't it? The complexity of a human soul.
The uncountable thoughts that were never spoken,
The untold fears and the demons lurking within,
The beliefs impeded like roots and the doubts that creep in,
The memories that shaped us and the choices that paved our roads,
The silent inner dialogues and the veils we hide behind like walls.
Fascinating indeed.
In Greek, "nostalgia” literally means "the pain from an old wound”. It's a twinge in your heart, far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn't a spaceship, it's a time machine. It goes backwards and forwards, it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel. It let’s us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know we are loved.
Don Draper, “The Wheel”
These words speak to my very core. Most days I find myself drawn into endless spirals of nostalgia. The problem with memories is that they are almost never authentic. Every time you recall a memory you add your own little tweaks here and there, and so over time it mutates into something entirely different. Something that is more pleasant and glorious. That's were nostalgia finds it perfect habitat. It starts to grow and eat you up from the inside and you're left with these voids. You feel hollow, incomplete or whatever other fancy name you'd like to call it. But what we very often overlook is that the past was never really so peaceful. What you'll very soon learn, if you haven't already, is that you'll waste your present mourning the good ol' days and when that present becomes a past you'll mourn it, too.
"You should have seen this coming,’ they said. I did see it coming. I saw it coming the way you see a train coming when you’re tied to the tracks."
Margaret Andrews
So many thoughts that have never made it beyond the firing neurons in my brain - and so many more that will share the same fate. Fears, regrets, apologies, impressions, ideas, and confessions: so many of them in my mind and yours. And so I wonder if any two individuals who ever walked this planet knew each other at all.
Words.
So many of them
Forever unspoken.
Forever veiled by silence.
