hello! i love your blog and i bow before your superior knowledge of both jewish studies and hebrew itself (thank u for confirming shaul's fat ass and no brain cells). i love yr posts that are hebrew blessings for gay bi and trans men + lesbian bi and trans women, and i was wondering if there are any for nonbinary jews like myself? bc they are so pretty and i know like NO hebrew but i want to paint smthn like that and put it up in my dorm room idk. anyway hope i'm not bothering u! 🏳️🌈✡️️🏳️🌈
A. thank you so much baby you are so sweet!!!!!!!!! you made me smile so big
b. Shaul is like. he’s hot but he’s so stupid it hurts everyone around him. like... same!!!!!! me handshake shaul being dumb and pretty
c. now we’re getting to the real part - because of the way Hebrew is a gendered language, I unfortunately could not think of a way to make a blessing like that. I have a “blessed he/she who made me proud” which can be read as “ge’e” / “ge’a”, but this is far from perfect as you still need to read it in a gendered way. The closest I could get is “blessed he/she who had made me enby” which again, is not perfect. As you can see, even with Gd I can’t find a way to make the word not be gendered. In Hebrew, the word “them” is still gendered - you have masculine them and feminine them. I tried to ask around nonbinary jews as I am cis, but couldn’t find an answer.
For any Hebrew speaking person reading this, especially nonbinary people - if you have any idea, please throw it my way! If you’d rather make it alone, the font I used is Stam Sefarad, but I know there’s an ashkenazi one online as well!
Would this be helpful: https://www.nonbinaryhebrew.com/ ?
That is amazing! Thank you so much!
I’m so glad! One of my rabbis recommended it to me when I was trying to write a text for my ketubah, which is why I feel comfortable recommending it even though I’m not a Hebrew speaker.
