So I just finished the Talamasca show (I enjoyed it). But immediately after finishing it, I jumped on Tumblr to see if anyone was getting vibes between Jasper and Guy or if I was just imagining it and I wasn't disappointed. Never change Tumblr.

Shortly before Sam and Daniel arrive to help Lestat in the hallway fight in episode 1, it's shown that one of the Fang Gang has an "Armand Told The Truth" tattoo. That's the first of multiple appearances of that phrase showing up Bad Wolf style.
This would seem like a joke and/or callback to the season 3 non-canon teaser except that shortly after, when Sam enters, Lestat confirms that Armand did, partially, tell the truth. The shot used to show Lestat recognizing Sam is Sam next to Armand in the box, where he was shown throughout Season 2 Episode 7 (left is season 2, right is TVL episode 1).
So if Lestat saw this, Sam was by the box for at least part of the trial. Episode 8 showed Armand alone in the box when Lestat saves Louis, so sometime before the verdicts, Sam left the box.
What does this mean?
I think it's about showing that Armand has told the truth more often than he hasn't. Episode 3 and 4 seem to show the same thing. Two more episodes directly addressing what happened between Lestat and Armand are still not disputing the majority of Armand's story in season 2 episode 3.
Thinking about this tweet big time
"dm feels kinda forced"
meanwhile dm:
Sam Reid about Interview with the Vampire + The Vampire Lestat (at SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations)
"You simply cannot trust Louis, he's a completely unreliable narrator and every single thing he ever said should be put to question! It's so good that we finally have Lestat's version, which is obviously the only true one - so good to finally have a reliable narrator!"
The reliable narrator:
in honor of the new teaser i'm posting my first fanart in like 10 years
āthey are overdoing the incest itās so unnecessaryā nope theyāre just taking us through lestat realizing he is being abused and being unable to stop it!
ep 1: feeling lonely, he seeks her out all ep as he literally spirals bc of drugs.
ep 2: speaks of her fondly, doesnāt really address how abusive she was as a human. gabi in present day crosses his boundaries and he blames it on both of them.
ep 3: lestat recalls how cruel she was in the past with nicki, and she punishes him for setting the no sex boundary by fucking jarda loudly to humiliate him. he becomes upset with her.
ep 4: she has left him again likely as a punishment for leaving her after the interview, triggering his abandonment issues (which she caused). he recalls more of her coldness and we see the first time heās coerced into having sex with her to earn her love.
then we see him actually confront her about it when he says āwhy do you come back? why donāt you let me hate you?ā (like he tried to the first time they had sex after he brought up that she touched him inappropriately when they were still human) and just like before, she just ignores his distress and he find he is still so powerless in their dynamic.
idk itās not unnecessary when it shapes literally every part of lestatās personality. ppl say theyāre depicting it badly when this is one of the few shows iāve seen depict incest as what it is: abuse. mfs out here watching house of the dragon where incest is likeā¦. normalized⦠but a show actually taking you through a victim understanding he was abused is too much?
maybe this aint the show for you idk idk
my favorite
āMother!! The 500 year old child sex slave/reluctant cult leader is being unethical!! The two 300 year old french vampires who only had each other and never had ANY agency until a few months before their murders are being WEIRDDD!! The 100 year old Black American vampire who was closeted and performing hypermasculinity his ENTIRE life keeps doing dumb shit!! The 2 year old geriatric deadbeat addict dad vampire is throwing ANOTHER egocentric tantrum!!!ā
Grow up! They are all murderers and they arenāt human anymore ANYWAYS.
(But maybe Iām just old and an OG fan of Anne Rice).
Prediction for episode 5: Gabriella knows something about Akasha. If not exactly Akasha, she knows something about ancients waking up and creating the evil with devils ruling that she talked about on the beach in episode 4. All season, sheās been the one mentioning Marius, not Lestat. Sheās in touch in some way with someone older whoās helping speed up the Great Conversion, and theyāre planning a coming out at one of his upcoming concerts.
Sheās framing the comeback to Lestat that itās his voice the other vampires are responding to so that Lestat will feel like heās in control. Itās a āseduce the seducerā distraction again, as Daniel described the Mardi Gras plan in season 1.
The same way Claudia floated the idea of throwing a party before letting Lestat take over planning it, Gabriella is hanging back pushing Lestat into feeling like this new album is his idea.
Spoiler from episode 5 stills below:
I think the one thing I wish people who donāt like Armand would at least accept is that heās not an evil mastermind at all.
Evil? Absolutely. Mastermind? Not even close.
Every single discrepancy in Lestat or Louisā stories being pinned on Armand is just bad analysis because you already have more than enough proof that he doesnāt plan that far ahead. He is a deeply impulsive person.
Thereās no elaborate narrative constructed by him. No big evil plan. Louis put forward the idea that he saved him after the trial and Armand just rolled with it. Everything he did after that was maintenance and damage control. This isnāt subtext. Itās in the show.
Heās not stupid either. Heās just, as Assad has said a thousand times, desperate to be loved and constantly in survival mode. Heāll do anything to not be alone. He doesnāt like doing the things he does and Iām not certain he could, in the moment he makes these decisions, completely rationalise why he makes them. After the fact, sure, but during? Iām not certain.
There are so many important little character-building moments for Letstat this season. Just in the last episode alone:
he patiently listened to salamander's awful song, than gave some constructive criticism to TC and then ended up making an actual song out of it.
he readily welcomed alex back and was very warm and gentle in his words with him when he could have been annoyed.
he obviously deeply appreciates and respects christine and how she runs things, enough to ask for her help in the interview.
that small moment where fareed corrected him was really sweet and shows that he respects his opinion and doesn't mind being corrected (and was very empathetic about his mother).
Idk, I just remember while reading the books last year: god I really hope we get to see the way he's actually quite endeared to others, and the way he loves people and gets life from them. He's not this cold, unfeeling monster who only uses people (and what else are we to conclude from a tale told by someone who thought they should hate him? It's understandable, but it's time to move on).
Possible episode 5 spoiler from stills
This is kind of a long shot, but I think Armand from the still in EW and Larry in the still from episode 5 are in the same place. And since Larry has a backpack is this a bus, train, or subway station?
Thatās a WILD pair to have meet - the human with the personality most like Lestat and the vampire whoās been messing around in the head of the human who resembles Nicki.
Iām really hoping this is part of Armandās full gremlin mode.
Mariusā¦
With the way the season has shaken out so far, itās almost certainly not going to happen, but these three characters in a scene would be amazing.
Armand would be crashing out that Marius is still alive.
Marius would be crashing out that Armand is hanging around a cult again.
Alex would be on the therapy speak telling both of them to let all that shit go and stop putting it on other people.
