Meet the Family… northern white cheeked gibbon family. Ricky and Vok have been together for 20 years and they are quite fond of one another, Vok smiles at Ricky and you will often see them grooming. Their son Patty just reached adulthood and left the family. Canter and Pepper, however, still keep the pair busy. The Northern whitecheeked gibbons are highly endangered with only ~1,000 individuals left it the wild. Like other gibbon species the major threats to them include deforestation due to logging and agriculture as well as hunting for traditional medicines and ceremonies. Native to Vietnam, Laos PDR, and China their population has declined over 80% in the last 45 years.
