The Dowager's Best Sass Moments in Season 1 of Downton Abbey.
Thomas and Violet 2x9
I have a really hard time believing Cora -"I carried a corpse for my daughter" and "I stood up to Violet and Rosamund and orchestrated a recovery mission for Edith / I'm bringing my granddaughter Marigold home" - Crawley actually missed Sybil's wedding.
Wands raised for you Maggie, a whole generation of kids have been raised to love and respect your work. We'll remember you forever. R.I.P Dame Maggie Smith 1934-2024 ❤️
#OTD in 2010:
Mr Carson: “The Dowager Countess.”
Dowager Countess: “Oh my dears, is it really true? I…I can't believe it. Last night he looked so well. Of course, it would happen to a foreigner. It's typical.”
Lady Mary: “Don't be ridiculous.”
Dowager Countess: “I'm not being ridiculous. No Englishman would dream of dying in someone else's house. Especially someone they didn't even know.”
Lady Sybil: “Oh, Granny, even the English aren't in control of everything.”
Dowager Countess: “Well, I hope we're in control of something, if only ourselves.”
Lady Mary: “But we're not! Don't you see that? We're not in control of anything at all!”
Countess of Grantham: “Edith, go and tell Mary to come back at once and apologise to her Grandmother.”
Dowager Countess: “No, leave her alone. She's had a shock, we all have. Just let her rest. Oh, just the ticket. Nanny always said, ‘Sweet tea is the thing for frayed nerves.’ Though why it has to be sweet, I couldn't tell you.”

"Lady Grantham"
2025
I'm a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.
I wanted to make a tribute to Maggie Smith and arguably her most iconic role since she passed away in late September last year. Unfortunately at around the same time my dog was also entering his final days, so I wasn't feeling up to it. Better late than never, I suppose.
Let's remember Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, the indomitable, beloved Granny of Downton Abbey. And the woman who played her so well, the unrivaled Dame Maggie Smith.
