A reddit post recently asked what people think Season 3 of Wednesday should improve on or avoid. I noticed a lot of accounts, especially the top liked ones adding in "no/less romance" as if the problem with season 2 was the romance (which was basically nonexistent besides a few moments of subtext regarding Wednesday and Tyler's feelings for each other) and not the obvious jamming in too many new characters, subplots, villains, and taking time away from developing the fan favorite/important characters.
If they are talking about Enid's thing with Ajax and Bruno, fine, but at least they ended that subplot with Enid deciding she needs no romance for a while.
The problem with Wednesday has never been too much romance. Season 1 was unanimously decided by the GA to be better than Season 2 and Season 1 was ABSOLUTELY FILLLED with romance love triangle slop, and people fucking ate that shit up. Team Xavier, Team Tyler, you can say what you want about how it was implemented in the show, but it fucking worked. These writers are known for Smallville, and their bread and butter in Smallville was the romantic tension and romantic subplots between the characters. This is something they are confident in writing about because it has worked for them, and it can work for Wednesday. I don't want to speak for Jenna but I'm not sure she was against romance 100% for Wednesday, she just didn't like how it was being done in the show as if Wednesday is the average teenage girl stuck in a love triangle deciding which boy she should choose. But even if Jenna was against it, that isn't something she has the final say over. It didn't fit Wednesday's character, but Wednesday having romantic feelings for Tyler does fit her character, just as having a soft spot for Enid fits her character.
I think people forget this show started as a fun little whodunit story with an Addams family twist, and the show never takes itself too seriously. While I understand not wanting it to be too family friendly, I'm not sure this is the right thing to watch for someone who wants it to be really dark with no romance.
