I remember when you were talking to me in the art building and you didn’t know how you were gonna do this project. But it turned out really well. I wonder where you went to do this. And this is a great example of a different type of painting and paint splatter.The music is great too. I agree it is fun to watch!

Project 5:

For this last project I really wanted to do a dance. I’ve always be interested in dance and how body movements can create emotion and tell a story. I wanted to show a story of self empowerment. A story of how you can be with someone and be so in-sync with them than you start to be the same person, and loose sight of the real you. You can be so depended on someone you become unsteady, until you find your strength to leave them. I put this dance together with my friend, hope you enjoy it.

I can imagine how how it must be. Because when I’m watching this I don’t even see you breathing. It must be really challenging like you said to start a new breathing rhythm. And I agree. When i see people in scrubs or a different type of set of clothing, you kinda get an idea of what they do and where they work or other factors.

Project #5 Performance Art

For this project I was leaning more towards reading, but decided to write instead. I have always found a release in this, and I’m finding it now in photography. Using cursive, I wanted to convey part of the past slipping away, and part of the present arriving. The black and white was used to convey mood, and with the music I was hoping to create nostalgia.

Project #5: The Artist is Present.

I decided to choose the verb painting. I have always had a love for painting. I decided to paint on a piece of wood using acrylic paints. I had fun making this video. I have never recorded myself painting something before, and I really loved watching the process of me doing it. I decided to time-lapse it so that it was not a 30 minute video. I like the time-lapse better because it looks cool as the painting comes together.

LOVE that you added the time-lapse!! … and that you added music & typography to this video. So cool! and it reminds me of those videos you see when someone is either doing something creative with screen printing, or pancake batter – we know it takes time, but the artist makes it look so much easier than it is.  Good job!

At first I didn't know what you were painting on, and I thought it was really creative that you chose to do it on a ring of a tree (I thibk that's what you call it). You're very skilled :)

Project 5: Performance. This project was little stressful and hard to understand as I spend most of the time figuring out what I wanted to do. Even when I finally came up with a solution…I ended back at square one: what I am doing and what the meaning??? Then I finally decided to paint on myself because, why not? Jk, well I thought of using painting but I wasn’t sure how and had limited useage around the room plus couldn’t damage anything since it isn’t my house. But I ended up going with painting my arm with the red paint in the palm of my hand. I had my boyfriend help me, which I’m very glad because he set up the camera and moved it around. What I really like is I could see my face but couldn’t and I wanted to give that anonymous feeling throughout the video along with painting my hand. In way, it was strange, it might have been coming from me since i was feeling weird abiut rhe whole procress but i like it even though I have headache stressing over it

Project 5

Artist Statement: This might seem like a really bad quality ad put together last second because I did it last night. I’ve just been so stressed and busy with other classes and working. So sorry about this. 

But I looked at how Marina did her performance art and did something similar to that. These were still shots and I just put them into a video form. I also wore makeup as part of the project to show another way of expressing yourself/ or using that as art perfomance too. Black was the color I chose because the skeleton represents death and black is also the color of death. So I tried to chose something that related to death. Even though I am afraid of dying haha.

Reading & Response 5

For the essay,  reading about performance art, helped me get a better understanding of how I am going to start this project. I never knew that Da Vinci  created river pageants and performed experiments related to his artwork. So he acted out his pieces.   I also agree how the author puts it “ History shows that artists have used performance not merely as a means to attract publicity for their seemingly wild and bohemian life-styles but also as a way of animating the many formal and conceptual ideas on which the making of art is based.” Not to just make something abstract with colors that draw people's attention but because of their life-styles.

For the movie, I couldn’t find the whole thing on amazon unless you bought it but I viewed clips on it.  I like how she said that her work isn’t just dealing with art anymore, it’s dealing with culture. To me, it does seem a little different for an artist that a female to want to flaunt her chest to gain attraction from the males. And I couldn’t decide if the horns are just makeup/clay or surgically on her.
