For the next few months I will be sharing all our #family meals and the #budget involved. I am going to shop in a different way every month to find cost effective, #tasty and #environmentally friendly ways of feeding a family. I will be using supermarkets, independent shops, #farmers markets, online shopping and so on to test the different ways of feeding my family. This month I have started with #Tesco, I don't often do a big #supermarket shop anymore (as I visit lots of #food venues, I can shop at various places through my work). So I have tried to shop like a typical busy #working #parent - I forgot a few things, bought a few silly things, stuck to a budget and took a child shopping with me. I make meat free food a few times per week, only if I can source the ingredients in a way that I have calculated affect the environment less than meat. #Brandy caramel sauce - 2 pints of hot water, teaspoon of good #salt and half a small bag of sugar, boil until golden then add 500ml whipped cream, several shots of brandy and whisk quickly. First tasting sample jar of apple cordial made. Launching new range in 2020. #diwali #diwalisweets recipe. One of my best friends is celebrating Diwali tonight and kindly invited me along, however I was set the challenge of making a decent diwali sweet to share with her friends. I think I have done ok, I have cooked these before for celebrations. Method: Making these takes patience, you have to warm all the ingredients over a low heat for a while, stirring continuously without allowing the mixture to burn or stick. Eventually a ball will form (finely chop the dates and almonds to speed this up). Been up since 5am getting a women's group launch event ready in a rented holiday cottage that is freezing. Have put a warm and wet duvet on a radiator, clothes and blankets all around my makeshift rising shelves and put a tablespoon of local Swiss honey into everything to give it some nice healthy probiotics. Was asked by the mother of a child with autism to make a bread recipe where he wouldn't have to touch wet dough with his hands.... No touch dough - making dough without using your hands. Will post full recipe later, but essentially it worked, without using a bread maker. From wet ingredients with a ladle to forming a dough ball after 1 hour rising.
