hey friends! i'm bakingpotat0s. and i'm queer (a queer person? on tumblr? fork found in kitchen lmao). and i'm in too many fandoms and hyperfixate randomly so i might disappear every few months. fear not. i like to write and reblog and write little mini totally very small analysis essays as a reblog.

So many people are saying stuff like “oh, I think he’s trans but we’re not actually going to see him transition in the show so he must be transmasc”

Trans character should not automatically mean post transition

Trans character does not automatically mean that they have done all the emotional labour that comes with figuring yourself out, ESPECIALLY characters like Jax

It’s so easy for media to make being trans into some abstract concept and simplify it to “character that is X gender in the book/show/movie was born as Y” and not actually explore the difficulties that come with transitioning and accepting yourself

Show the depressing parts like pre transition dysphoria, show the messy parts like being terrified to come out to the people you care about, and yes, show the happy parts like being called by your chosen pronouns and name for the first time, show the gender euphoria that can come with a big clothes shop with your friends

Damn you straight to the Oven, Beast, they cursed inwardly; half-heartedly. They didn’t even realize they had begun crying until he wiped away their tears, before bringing the salty substance to his tongue. Their cheek burned as warmer air hit where his hands had been moments earlier. His fingers were ice, numbing all the pain the Recluse carried. For all the misery he caused, he knew how to draw those he tortured back in with the promise of safety. Comfort. Numbness.

He looked at the Recluse with such fondness. Maybe he is getting better, some small, albeit growing, part of them wondered. The part that they had tried to squash after being in the Spire less than a day. Maybe the Spire could feel like home, someday. Or maybe, maybe he could let me leave- They almost laughed at the thought. Or maybe, he’ll at least get bored of me, they hoped.

“You’re so perfect when you cry,” He murmured, awe-struck, adoration bringing his voice low. They hated how good it felt – the crying, being held by him, of all beings, being called “perfect.” Maybe that was why they hadn’t left yet. Maybe he wasn’t lying, for once. Maybe he really was the only one who’d ever love them. After all, he’d been the Fount of All Knowledge, once. As bound to Truth as he was Lies. But then again, did love really feel like this? Hot and cold, only one yet both at the same time; pleas silenced by doubt?

He was right about one thing at least – whatever Truthless Recluse felt about him, they’d never felt for anyone else before. Be it love, hatred, longing, or some other odd emotion they hadn’t placed. Maybe they never would.
