Saw people posting this on Twitter. Love his take on things
A shrewsie, my answer to @bowelfly's call for more shrewnanigans.
slow shrews day is going to become part of my lexicon from now on
(for context, i made a joke post on bluesky that inspired a deluge of extremely fun shrew art in the replies & reblogs)
There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.
today I was wearing my “yes homo” shirt and some lady told me “you’re going to hell” and I said “with you around it’s like we’re already there” and I swear she made this exact fkn face
I cannot believe this post I made in 2015 is still going around…. anyway plot twist this same lady got famous on my town’s facebook gossip group for divorcing her husband for a woman 💅🏻✨ I like to believe my yes homo shirt pointed her in the right direction
Oh no! All RPGs are delayed because the ontologically evil minions that it's morally uncontroversial to kill have unionised and gone on strike.
If you don't want your games to have to deal with the ethical implications of violence, you'd better be prepared to give them at least a 10% raise and double their vacation days.
You won't get media with messier, more nuanced, more realistic queer characters if you keep flying off the handle the second a fictional character has sex, does drugs, swears too much, or acts vaguely like an asshole.
You won't get more diverse queer media with wider stories if you can't handle it when queer artists make art that is raunchy, crude, edgy, and gross.
You won't get more diverse queer media if you shut everything down the second it does something you, personally, get squicked out by.
You will never get more diverse queer media if you contribute to the way queer media is picked apart, raked over the coals, and held to unreasonably high standards.
You will never get what you want if you keep tearing queer artists down for their weird experimental art instead of learning how to say, "this isn't for me, that's fine, and I'll be over here in my own space."
Frederick Simpson Cobur, The Arrival Of The Plague, 1909
If the main character of backrooms was supposed to be a bad guy at any point it flew over my head I guess because he just seemed like a kind earnest person who tried hard his whole life but everyone he ever met screwed him over. He was a heartbreaking lovable character I didn't want anything bad to happen to, and yeah I'm disappointed by some questionable story decisions others have already analyzed but otherwise a beautifully made horror narrative.
(Mild spoilers for information you learn early on)
"Oh but he fought with his wife and got thrown out" yeah people fight. He was under stress for years because he got stuck in a shitty retail job despite working hard to become an architect.
Also the movie takes place in 1990 and clark seems to be in his 40s at least? So he grew up as a *black* american in the fucking 60s or earlier, everything stacked against him, probably had to fight tooth and nail to get that degree and got turned down for architctural jobs in favor of white people again and again until he found himself "too old" to be desirable to an industry that prefers to hire brand new grads.
Of course he was unhappy, and he still tried! And he couldn't start over or go back to school or risk any change if that soul crushing job was all thay supported him and his wife!! I wasn't supposed to think he was an asshole to her and got kicked out for good reason was I?? It wasn't even a court order or anything, she just made him leave and he honored that by sleeping in his fucking furniture store and presumably still paying her rent! Throw HER out dude, holy shit this guy didn't owe anybody anything!!!
On top of it all, (much more huge spoiler for the whole horror plot)
if you leave this kind of comment on any fanfic writer’s work or if you think this shit is okay and isn’t the reason more and more writers are choosing not to share their works with your entitled ass for free anymore, you should be ashamed of yourself.
if you suspect a fic is ai and if that bothers you, quietly close the tap and leave the fic. no one forces you to stay.
"Messy and original"?
What does that even mean?
Does this person (assuming it IS a person and not a bot itself) think that human writers are incapable of polishing a piece of writing before publishing? That human writers, in order to prove they're human, must leave something looking like a 'messy' first draft to (hopefully) not be accused of being ai written?
I've seen this 'advice' before and call bullshit on it again. Ai was trained on human writing, so as it advances, of course it's gonna sound more and more convincing. Telling actual humans to 'dumb down' their writing and make it sloppy isn't going to help 'prove' they are human, it's just gonna make the ai writing look better by comparison.
I am a human writer. I have never used ai in any of my fics. I reread my writing about a bazillion times to tweak and polish and make it the best I can before posting. (And yes, I still miss a few typos and odd words.)
I should not be expected to purposely post poor prose in order to try and convince some reader (or bot, as I suspect the above comment actually is) that I am, in fact, human.
If this comment was by an actual person, I am once again begging you to please, please, please stop the witch hunts. You cannot tell what is ai written anymore. It's unfortunately getting too good. Any 'ai checkers' are ai in and of themselves and you're simply feeding the slop machine more material to steal and use to improve.
If you are so convinced something is ai, block that person and move along. But I promise you, you're not the clever 'ai detector' you think you are.
