it’s kinda funny in a sad way that there was that research paper years back that found that lesbians are most likely to be victims of homophobic abuse by the various people in their lives (such as their parents, relatives, friends, coworkers, etc) but everyone decided to interpret it as if it were saying that lesbians are the most likely to abuse each other and then used that false info as a way of furthering the homophobic abuse against us 🙃

Here’s the original study: The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey: 2010 Findings on Victimization by Sexual Orientation

The study found that LGB women were more likely to be victimized by abuse than men, which most people took to mean that lesbians were more likely to abuse each other, but if you read the study you’ll find that the majority of the perpetrators of abuse of these LGB women were men, not fellow women.

And here’s a helpful article that breaks down the rumors/misinformation that have spread as a result of people purposefully misinterpreting this original study and other similar studies: DEBUNKING THE LESBIAN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DATA. Useful to help understand the statistics and scientific language of the studies and provides a lot of sources and further reading.

Obviously abuse can occur in lesbian relationships, because anyone can be an abuser no matter what demographic they belong to, but to claim that lesbian couples have the highest rate of domestic violence is objectively and provably false.

Especially when you account for severity of the violence and abusive relationships that end with murder, it's fucking ridiculous to claim that lesbians are more abusive than straight men.
