As a fat chick I struggle with feeling like a failure at femininity, such that I’m only just now starting to embrace femme identity. It’s not only for the conventionally pretty, I tell myself over and over, with varying levels of success.
Then this morning I was doing my volunteer thing shoveling sidewalks for community elders; by the last house I’d ditched a few layers, down to a lace-trimmed henley and lined overalls (plus bangle bracelets and a double strand of pearls with matching earrings, because ya girl likes to feel pretty even when working like an ox). The senior butch inside the house opened the door to tease, “Don’t give yourself frostbite just to draw in the fellas, now!” I laughed that most fellas are immune to my burly charms. And the silver fox neighbor gets THAT butch gleam in the eye - you know the one - and says, “Well, don’t waste them on the male ones, doll.”
God bless the butches and studs and masc women and every other kind of “non-male fella” (to borrow that terminology) out there. This burly femme has never felt so seen. And dangerously close to flashing my tits in broad, subzero daylight.
Do not follow me if you're going to turn against other butches for being "soft butches". Just because I live a certain way and I'm rough around the edges doesn't mean I will tolerate you bullying other butches or especially transmascs for not matching your idea of strength.
