The key to a good age gap ship is that the text has to actually know that this relationship is taboo. Like in almost any Hollywood movie you will see a leading man pushing 50 ( if we’re lucky) and his love interest at a solid 25 but this doesn’t count because it’s never acknowledged that he actually is that old. Really wish the anti-meta sentiment at the CCPD had been a bigger part of S3 just so that I could have seen how Barry responded to it.

There's a timeline where it gets very much in the way of their doing their jobs and the CCPD is being used as a political piece in a more complicated game by the mayor, essentially as a way of demonstrating her credibility on hot-button topics before the upcoming election (the way it interferes with Barry's suspension in S4), and because Julian is so incredibly outspoken against it, Barry ends up reflexively defending it, even though he doesn't actually agree. Barry Allen would let them damp his powers at work because he can go to STAR and hack himself out of it, but not take the risk of stepping in to help anyone else or speaking out himself.
