In his past Io got abused by his ex-mother and combined with the comments about how a horrible person Ganymede and Callisto were and Io was bound to end up the same, making Io try unreasonably hard to prove then wrong which messed up his mental health already, Jupiter was really usually in his life at that time but when the divorce happens his mental got a bit better.
