Man notices an Eagle eyeing the fish he just caught
*gets back to the nest* baby you are NEVER gonna believe how i got this fish
When you get more objective about the way nature is & away from weird anthropomorphic carnivore slander it is a little funny when the baby sea turtles hatch and every other animal in like a ten mile radius goes "oh fuck yum one million mini sliders"
watched maleficient last night. has anyone explored the economic and material ramifications of getting rid of all your spinning wheels in one blow. you’re back to drop spinning now, and it takes roughly 6-10 hours of spinning for the yarn to allow a single hour weaving. everyone ought to be spinning, kids included. the housekeepers should be spinning. people waiting for their wares to sell should be spinning. guards on duty should be spinning. i must believe the only reason we don’t see all this spinning on screen is bc the camera loves watching the king’s descent into madness, which i agree with. that man is spinning something, but it ain’t fiber.
Piece of advice to all writers who need a cover but don’t have the money to hire an artist: use the public domain.
Online, you can find quite a lot databases for photography in the public domain that you could use (always check their specific rules regarding commercial use), like Pixabay, Unsplash, or Pexels.
But, even a tad more charming, there are also hundreds of thousands of paintings in the public domain. If the artist has been dead for over 70 years, the image is (typically) in the public domain and can be used however you want it. This is not a new concept, big publishers like Penguin and the Oxford’s World Classics do the same!
When you use such images, always make sure that 1. the painting really is in the public domain (sometimes the art itself may be in the public domain, but the photograph you are using to see it is not!), and 2. that it is an appropriate image. Sometimes, an image may look innocent and fitting, but would actually cause irritation, like accidentally using a painting of siblings for a romance or using a controversial image for different reasons.
Some places you can find art in the public domain (always double check!): National Gallery of Art, Artvee, Public Domain Image Archive, and most websites of bigger museums.
[Prompt Calender: April 23rd, World Book and Copyright Day]
Your cover will look so much more professional and interesting if you use public domain imagery rather than AI.
Your hard work deserves thoughtful presentation.
my fav relationship ship dynamic is where it doesn't matter if you call it platonic or romantic or queerplatonic because they always act the same in every type of relationship. and the way they act? fucking weird.

Listening to the local fire department radios as they rescue a cat in a sewer. Here's how it's going:
FD: We can see the cat. Do you have an ETA on animal control?
Dispatch: Twenty minutes.
FD: Alright, we think we can get the cat.
Dispatch: Copy, we'll let animal control know.
FD several minutes later: We've got the cat.
Dispatch: Copy, do you still want--
FD, interrupting: Update, the cat DOES NOT like us.
Dispatch: ...so you do still want animal control, then?"
FD: Yes. Tell them the cat is in the engine.
Dispatch: ...are you also in the engine?
FD: Not anymore, no.
always interesting whenever people start talking about polyamory as particularly unstable or prone to jealousy bc it begs the question of if they’ve ever seen or heard of monogamous couples
are you aware that those people are having sincere earnest discussions on whether following someone on social media counts as cheating
you don’t realize how important lunch is until you’re wandering around thinking about how unloveable and untalented and uniquely cursed you are and then it’s 4pm and you finally eat lunch and you go Oh. oh right.
lot of people commenting on this post like "who eats lunch at 4pm that's a terrible time to eat lunch" yes. that is the point. 4pm lunch is inadvisable. 4pm lunch is not the ideal. 4pm lunch makes the mind demons real.
Had a coworker tell me they hadn’t texted once because of the time. “I didn’t want to wake you.”
I stared at them through the dawning realization that they lived in a world where that was remotely possible. “My phone is on do not disturb if I’m sleeping. Why would I let random texts wake me up? My sleep is important.”
Equally baffled they replied, “What if someone at work needs you?”
“I am not a manager. No one at work will ever need me badly enough to interrupt my sleep. If I’m not working then there’s no reason to be calling me.”
“Not even if you need to cover?”
I laughed, “I don’t need to cover. They could ask me to cover but good luck getting ahold of me if I’m sleeping.”
They looked distressed at this idea.
To console them I added, “I have important people like my mom and my wife set to override. If they call they get through no matter what.”
There was a small pause before they asked, “You can do that…?”
So friendly reminder. Become unreachable. Work does not need you that badly. Sleep.

i was lazy and didn't post the full context but people are interested in this one. tl;dr under new Australian laws customers can be held liable for workplace harassment, not just employers, and can be taken to court for essentially the same behaviour you'd expect a manager to face court for
also: homophobic harassment is considered sexual harassment in Australian courts, which apparently is not really the case in the US I guess?
This court decision has major implications for employees in public-facing workplaces, including retail, hospitality and health.
this is a big win and gives workers another avenue of protecting themselves, as they no longer need to rely on their employer deciding to give a shit.
