The restaurant was dead. It seemed having an early dinner was no longer fashionable and he spent the greater part of his shift just polishing silverware and doodling on the seating chart with an expo marker. He’d been hoping for another cheap elderly couple to come in but he was mistaken. He didn’t know what he’d done to deserve another run in with Beau. He’d gone three months without him and now he was popping up everywhere. Dante couldn’t even tell what was worse. Having to ask Beau for money or have to wait on him. He supposed time would only tell. “We do weekly specials,” Dante explained not wanting to rattle off the menu to his ex. He had eyes. “They’re right here on the first page both for drink and food,” he said opening the cover of the menu and pointing to it for him. “Do you want still or sparkling, Beau?” Dante asked. It was a little offensive that all Beau had to say to him was to ask him about the damn specials.
beau wasn’t sure why he chose this restaurant for dinner but he quickly regretted his decision when he saw dante’s face. he already felt bad for the other night and now he was forced to speak to him again. hopefully beau could hold his tongue. his eyes remained on the menu as dante gave him instructions, nodding a bit to show he understood. “right, of course.” sitting up in his chair, he allowed his arm to rest on the table. “i guess i didn’t see them.” or he didn’t want to read that hard. that was part of dante’s job, right? his eyes glanced up to dante’s face. of course he still remembered one of his drink orders. it hadn’t been that long since they were together but it felt like forever ago. “sparkling.” he stated before focusing back on the menu. “i guess i’ll have chicken tenders or something. i can’t decide.” a short exhale left his lips. “what’s your favorite?” he was trying his best to act polite while dante was working but he wasn’t really all about the small talk thing. “i’m sure i’ll like whatever you recommend.”
