Educate yourself, please.
Girl 1: Yeah, I heard they found her in the closet.
Girl 2: I mean who decides to get a month into college and then decides that they just can't handle it?
Girl 3: Well, I heard she was drunk anyways.
Today as I was walking to my car this is the conversation I heard in the elevator in regards to a student that committed suicide at my college. Yes suicide, not just like she passed out, or did something stupid at a party, but this girl felt like she had no other option in life but to end hers, and this is how these girls talked about her.
All day I have been thinking about it, how could people be so fucking ignorant that they think that saying this is okay? At the time I really wanted to say something to them but I knew I would lose my temper and wasn't feeling like yelling would get my point across too well. But seriously, how does someone think that talking about a human being like that okay? I mean this was a conversation they were having in a damn elevator with another girl and myself in it, it wasn't a private conversation.
Did they really think that her taking her life was just because some test or paper fucking stressed her out?
Do they not know they suicide almost always happens with someone who has a pre-existing mental condition, usually depression that distorts how they view life?
Do they not know how much it fucking sucks to lose someone to suicide?
Did the thought ever cross their mind that they sounded like ignorant assholes who have no clue how have empathy. Literally not once did they seem concerned about the pain this girl, her family, her friends, those who talked to her a few times in the community dorms, were going to feel.
So my challenge to people is to go do your research about suicide, the facts are startling and eye opening and it is a subject that people need to start having meaningful conversations about.
Also, don't be those assholes who open their mouths and spew nasty word vomit, projectile word vomit, onto people you don't even know just because you have an opinion. Just think.
My last thing in this tangent, if you are reading this and struggling with anything in life and feel like giving up don't, just don't. You are beautiful, and you are loved. You may think no one would care, but they would, I would, and I don't even know you. I would be fucking heart broken and I have never met you, that is how fucking amazing and beautiful you are. So please, stick around because the world needs you. There is always help and there is nothing wrong with getting help. Love each other more, and better, and stop being so goddamn mean to each other. Everyone deserves to feel loved.
