Blog Activity 2.2- Participatory Culture

Are you part of a participatory culture or fan community? If so, how do you participate?

Yes, I have my own Facebook which is a social website that allows me to post my own photos, status', comments on other people's wall/photo's/comments, 'like' groups and chat on a live messenger to my friends.

I also use Instagram, less interactive, but still lets you comment on pictures, 'like' pictures and post your own pictures.

What is an example of Transmedia? and what media/platforms does it use? 

For this question I found i was struggling to understand what transmedia was. I found this very useful Youtube video that explained and gave examples.

The most useful example was at the end. He used Star Wars as and example and stated how not only the movie was produced; but comic books, merchandise and even video games were. Helping promote this movie and making it more successful.

Blog Activity 2.1- Patterns of Analogue and Digital media

Are there obvious patterns of analogue and digital media usage?

Patterns of analogue and digital media usuage have changed over time. Presently, digital media usage is the most dominant. This is evident in most of the population owning an iPhone, our generation can heavily depend on their phones for everything! News, calling, texting, and different apps that cater to anyones personal preferences mean the usage of digital media is much higher than analogue. Even in High Schools laptops are being introduced to replace traditional analogue methods of pen and paper. There is talk of even the HSC test to be on computer in the future. This has obviously not always been the case though, in the early periods of digital media development many were afraid of the unknown and stuck to traditional analogue methods like; books and writing. 

Do we prefer some types of content in a particular form?

When reading lengthy articles or novels, it is widely preferred to have it in hand. But due to recent technologies it is available to have it on a computer, phone or iPad. This makes it easier to carry from place to place and if your the type of person who likes to read more than one book at a time, it's also much easier. 

Do we have a choice, or is some information only available in analogue or digital forms?

A lot of novels, especially really old ones are only available in books. Some interactive forms of information, such as videos on Youtube are only available in digital forms.

Blog Activity 1.2- What Is Copyright?

What are the main copyright issues you think we need to consider in working on a group, public class blog such as the Tumblr site for COM112 201360?

-Don't post pictures or videos with out permission

-Reference anything used that isn't your property

What are the differences between online and offline copyright?

Online includes anything digital and found on the internet, whereas offline includes things such as  books, drawings, sculptures etc. both are protected with copyright laws which gives the creator intellectual property and makes sure anyone who copies or uses their work gives them credit and acknowledgment. 

What is Creative Commons?

Is a non-for-profit organisation, with headquarters in Mount View, California, United States. They have licences which allows the a creator to reserve rights. CC does not replace copyright but goes by the guidelines of copyright.
