my Beloved
I have to wonder if Robin Hobb has first hand experience with migraines. Fitz experiencing crushing headaches after his skilling (in which he opens his mind to his empathic connections with humanity) followed by his elf bark induced âblack moodaâ just feels so relatable as someone who has chronic migraine.
The cycle of âIâve over-exerted myself energeticallyâ into âI must medicate away the painâ into âdepressive episode during postdromeâ is just so familiar. Particularly the chronic nature of it, where youâre so accustomed to the pain and resulting depression that itâs difficult to even notice the impact on your perception, never mind parse out where it begins and ends.
i love when fitz thinks he has learned from his mistakes and improved as a person but itâs like no youâre actually just isolating yourself again i fear<3
another thing that chade did that pisses me off: when he told fitz he has no ambition and too much caution! it's almost as if he was kept as a stablehand for years, was dressed beneath his station, was reminded repeatedly that he's a bastard and that his uncle can try and kill him all he wants and get away with it, lived with his head down so no one will pay too much attention to chivalry's bastard, was made into a literal tool so it wouldn't cross his mind for a second that he could be the next king, and the few times he did act according to his own will he was accused of usurpring the throne and got tortured to death. gee, chade, how dare your child assassin have too much caution!
The nervous system. Man, woman, know thyself! 1908.

everyone has one fitz male role model/father figure/relative they carry water for. mines chade
I would argue that everyone also has that one fitz male role model/father figure they have enduring beef with that keeps them up at night

Farseer trilogy doodle page that got out of hand... Assassin's quest was so??!
I'm gently cupping your face with my hands and looking into your soul with my kind, tired, transgender artist eyes.
The idea that "artists need to make their more palatable for wider audiences, especially if their work becomes popular, because people are currently media illiterate and it's the artist's social responsibility to make their art digestible for mass audiences" is fascist rhetoric. It is especially fascist rhetoric when you say it about queer art.
You are repeating fascist propaganda about the "function" of art in society that has blatantly worked on you.
You can dislike a piece of art and have criticisms of it or even outright hate it! Those are your opinions. But the idea that it is somehow an artist's responsibility to create with a media illiterate audience in mind is absurd, fascistic, and would literally just contribute to making the literacy crisis worse.
